Did You Know? (Rabbit, Rabbit)

That “Rabbit rabbit” is a common British superstition, also practiced by people here. The most common modern version states that a person should say “rabbit, rabbit, white rabbit”, “rabbit, rabbit, rabbit”, “rabbits, rabbits, rabbits”, “rabbit, rabbit” or simply “white rabbits” upon waking on the first day of each new month, and on doing so will receive good luck for the duration of that month. In the United States, the tradition is especially common in Nantucket, Cape Cod other towns within Massachusetts and throughout Vermont, notably in Middlebury and Chester.

Did you say Rabbit, Rabbit this morning?  If not, you missed your opportunity for December; however, the next Rabbit, Rabbit day will be New Year’s Day, and if you say Rabbit, Rabbit on the first day of the new year, you get the good luck for the whole year.  So set yourself a reminder for Rabbit, Rabbit Day, Sunday, January 1, 2012 and go for the year of good luck.

Peace & Democracy in Pakistan

What are the prospects and why does it matter?

Relations between the United States and Pakistan are at an all-time low, following a series of incidents involving U.S. and NATO forces either inside Pakistan or along its border with Afghanistan, even as Pakistan itself has been convulsed by a rash of antigovernment bombings and assassinations and as the Obama administration prepares to draw down U.S. forces in Afghanistan. Can Pakistan move towards peace, democracy and stability under such conditions, and why should this matter to Americans?

Beena Sarwar is a leading Pakistani journalist, artist and democracy, human rights and peace advocate. An initiator of the Pakistani Campaign for Democracy and a former Harvard Nieman Fellow, she is currently working with the Jang Group in Pakistan, and she maintains a political blog titled Journeys to Democracy (http://beenasarwar.wordpress.com].

Sarwar has worked for newspapers in Karachi and Lahore and was the founding editor of the Pakistan weekly "News on Sunday."  She has also written extensively for the InterPress News Service, and has made several film and television documentaries. She has degrees in Art and Literature from Brown University (1986) and in Television Documentary from London University (2001). Sarwar was a Nieman Foundation Fellow at Harvard in 2006 and a Fellow at the Carr Center for Human Rights Policy (Harvard Kennedy School) in 2007.

Big Bird ID Request From Martha Lazarus

Hi Joey,

Some noisy crows attracted my attention to this magnificent bird passing by Lane’s Cove this morning.  Can someone help me identify it?

Cheers,

Martha Lazarus

bird, Lane's Covebird, Lane's Cove-2bird, Lane's Cove-3

My completely uneducated guess is a Red Tailed Hawk but hope to hear from the many bird watching freaks that frequent GMG Smile

You Think This Poor Cat Will Ever Get It’s Revenge?

Imagine you’re this cat-

image

Photo from this blog-http://jimmiechew.wordpress.com/

You’re a handsome cat, right?

Proud, well groomed and all, just chillin’ looking like a bad ass.

And then your owner goes and fucks your shit all up to pieces by dressing you up

We can only pray that this poor once-proud feline doesn’t gouge it’s owners eyes out while they sleep in an act of well deserved revenge.

Shit ain’t right.

I’m no fan of the crazies at PETA but if they really cared about the mistreating of animals they’d be all over this and perform some type of intervention.

If our poor deceased cat JJ Jinglenuts was still alive (god rest his soul) I’d send him in ninja style to help this poor kitty.

JJ was a silent assassin.  laying out his kills at the front door, all proud.  Chipmonks, mice, birds- JJ Jinglenuts wouldn’t tolerate wearing any pansy burberry print coat.  Oh Hell NO.  and to be honest he wouldn’t have had to endure the ridicule by all his kitty cat buddies because I never would have submitted him to that.  It was bad enough we had his nuts lopped off, what were we gonna go dress him up like Liberace next?  No way Jose.

This was our boy JJ Jinglenuts-

(note no fairy clothing present)

Warning- JJ Jinglenuts Latest Victim Pictures- Alvin and The Chipmunks Are A Man Down

We Must Protect This House!!!!! JJ Jinglenuts- New Spokescat For Under Armor

But alas Mr Jingles couldn’t keep up his ways forever and karma caught up with him-

Karma’s A Bitch- RIP JJ Jinglenuts

Posted on June 9, 2010 by Joey C

Just got a call from the Mrs.

Our neighbor just popped by to let her know that there’s a tore up cat in his yard and it  looks like JJ.  I guess all the killing of the mice and the chipmunks finally caught up to the poor fella and an animal a little higher on the food chain got him last night.

JJ I hope you’re having fun up in heaven and there is plenty of fine pussy up there for you to play with.  We’ll miss you buddy.

We got JJ as a kitten at the animal shelter in Salem.  It was after a long period of trying to conceive our first child without success and many medical procedures.   Within a month of JJ’s arrival into our home The Mrs became pregnant with The Bean.
