All this talk about music lately…………..

All this talk about music lately…………..

Thanks too Peter and Vickie all this talk about the local music scene had me thinking about all the concerts I’ve been to. Aerosmith in 1979 at the old Garden is a one I won’t forget. Plus the crazy ride there on the “Concert Train”, buying Bootleg T-shirts and watching the bootleg t-shirt guys get busted.  The concert was great but you could see they were having problems during the show. Drug induced, I’m sure. The next nights concert they cancelled and there was a riot in Boston and the green line station was destroyed. I found this full concert on youtube. Isn’t modern technology awesome?

Here’s Your Move Regarding Teeth Whitening

I drink coffee.  Lots of coffee.

How to keep the pearly whites staying pearly white after drinking all that coffee?  No need to get expensive dentistry teeth whitening treatments.  That’s for suckas.

Floss, use Arm and Hammer Advanced White toothpaste with peroxide and follow up by swishing some hydrogen peroxide around in your mouth for thirty seconds after you floss and brush in the morning and before you go to bed.

The big jug of Hydrogen Peroxide at CVS was $1.49 and will last you a long while.

Performance Sock Review Fox River Stay-Dry Sock Liner

DSC07225

When working around the lobster tanks all day long during the summer I don’t wear my heavy winter muck boots which keep everything super dry.  I wear lower cut boots which inevitably get water splashed inside them and my feet sweat due to the heat.

So I was in Nelson’s buying some new work gloves and stumbled upon these FoxRiver sock liners which claim to wick and dry your feet.

At $5.98 a pair I didn’t want to buy too many just in case it was a gimmick.

If you suffer from having damn uncomfortable wet feet all day long that these sock liners work the nuts.

Dry and comfy and that makes my days a whole lot more comfy when I’m on my feet all day long.

Well worth the $5.98.  I bought two more pairs this morning.

Mass Bay Junior Olympics at Annisquam Yacht Club

Today Annisquam Yacht Club is quiet, but two weeks from now – watch out!The Annisquam Yacht Club will be hosting the 2012 Mass. Bay Junior Olympic Sailing Festival on August 13-15.  US Sailing’s Junior Olympic Sailing Program is a nationwide series of regattas for youth ages 8 to 21. Each event in this family of regattas is hosted by a different club or organization, but all events share a common goal: to promote the enjoyment of sailing and development of skills to young sailors as well as provide an Olympic pathway for talented junior sailors.

Events mix Olympic-style competition with elements of learning and fun for all levels–from beginning racers to those with Olympic aspirations. In 2012, 30 events are planned in the continental United States and Hawaii and over 4,500 sailors expected to participate. Junior Olympic Sailing is coordinated by US Sailing and sponsored nationally by West Marine and Gill.

The Annisquam Yacht Club will be welcoming sailors aged 8-18 in the Optimist, Laser Radial, and Club 420 classes, and expect more than 300 sailors to participate in this exciting and fun-filled event!

Registration is now open and available online via Regatta Network. For help with registration, contact support@regattanetwork.com.

Grace Papp, 15, has been sailing since she was 7.  This is her third year crewing 420’s – she handles the spinnaker and jib.  Grace loves sailing and sails all day everyday during the summer.  She is the only girl who is going to the overnight away regattas.

Friday evening I attended the Gloucester Stage production of “Master HAROLD” and the Boys, by Athol Fugard. The audience was asked to spread the word about the play because the theatre’s usual Boston Globe coverage will not be available until the day before the show closes, Sunday, Aug. 12.

I urge everyone who loves the theatre, and is drawn to the deep complexities of human imperfections, attend this extraordinary production. The award-winning play, once banned in Apartheid-riddled South Africa, features outstanding performances by Johnny Lee Davenport, Peter Mark Kendall, and Anthony Wills, Jr. and is superbly directed by Benny Sato Ambush. This is an evening of stark emotion and complicated interactions between three South African men, two black and one white, with a history of friendship and connection through employment. The script by Athol Fugard is absolutely brilliant. In an hour and 45 minutes – with no intermission – through the use of  humor, irony, and anger, the audience experiences the anguish of recognizing that entrenched racism has affected the special relationship these three men have had since the 17-year old white man was a boy. A sense of intractability is pervasive. Although, when, at curtain call, the three men embrace, there is relief!

I left the theatre in tears, deeply moved by a feeling of hopelessness, but then uplifted by Fugard’s message which director Ambush expresses in his director’s note within the program: in the words of poet/humanist Gwendolyn Brooks, “We are each other’s harvest, We are each other’s business, We are each other’s magnitude and board.”

Please go to see this play before it closes on Sunday, August 12. The Gloucester Stage is a Cape Ann gem that must be supported. Do your part!

The Gift

The Gift

He had spent his youthful summers on Cape Ann,

but life, as it has a way of doing, took him many miles away

to a place where his kids were born and are growing up

not knowing Stage Fort, or the harbor, or the people of Gloucester.

They have never seen the brave souls on the greasy pole

or splashed in the Good Harbor surf, or, until this day, stood

on a rock watching the fishing boats live out the traditions of

nearly 400 years that began on this precise spot.

So he gave his kids a gift, one that they will remember

and cherish and make them think of him well after they

are grown and have children of their own;

a gift that only a parent can give.

On this lovely day in July he brought them to Gloucester

and showed them around and told them stories

of his summers in this place and gave them

a part of his life that they will keep forever.

Coyotes! No Mas!

I’ve had enough of all these so called wildlife experts. Our loved pets are vulnerable if they escape the comforts of our home. That’s a risk you take. We live next to a vernal pond. We have all kinds of Cape Ann Wildlife here. Such as; minx, otters, herons, egrets, snakes, peepers, banjo frogs, all kinds of dragon flies, a ton of rabbits, foxes, turkeys, Coyotes etc. Our Jack Russell “Blaze” loves it here. She loves all the smells she can stick her snoot in. We keep a good eye out for her when she’s exploring the yard. She’s chased out all the animals I’ve mentioned earlier. The Coyotes here seem to be intimidated by loud noise and aggressive behavior. I’ve run screaming after them and they ran terrified into the woods. I’m just waiting for one of them to turn around and come chasing after me. Hopefully i’ll never have to deal with a brave coyote taking Blaze away. Blaze can take after herself but there’s always something stronger in the food chain. That’s why you’ll never see me in a kayak or paddle board tempting a Great White Shark.
