Pet of the Week-Sassy!

pet of the week, cape ann animal aid

Hello!  I am not certain why a sweet, affectionate and mild mannered lady like myself was named Sassy!

I just celebrated my first birthday and like most young cats, I love toys, bird watching (from inside) and taking naps.  I have a pretty tiger coat and if you would like to meet me, please stop by the Cape Ann Animal Aid located at the Christopher Cutler Rich Animal Shelter in Gloucester.  We also have a website, so please visit: CapeAnnAnimalAid.com and you can always visit me in person!

I can see that the shelter has a “wish list”.  I have been told that these are items that we need and if you would like to donate them, the staff here would be grateful.   The items include: wet cat and kitten food, wet dog and puppy food, ceramic dishes for cats and kittens, paper towels to name a few.

Do you know what is on my wish list?   A family to adopt me!

Updates from Marina Evans, Rob Cowsill, Block Party, KBMG & more

Yesterday, we told you that Marina Evans was releasing another song from her Dogtown EP this week and she said, in her interview, that each new song would have a little more of a groove (see post here).  This new one sure does.  It’s a little more bluesy too.  Listen:

And we said we’d have the Block Party Lineup soon.  Today, we’ve got it sorted for you in two convenient ways.  Here’s the Block Party Entertainment Lineup by stage.  And here’s the Block Party Entertainment Lineup by Time.  Either way, a splendid time is guaranteed for all!

Last week, we told you about Aurelia Nelson’s interview with Rob Cowsill (see that post here) on her show Curtain Up.  Good stuff.  If you missed it, you can listen to the podcast here.  Rob doesn’t hold back with his stories about 1960s child stardom.

KBMG is back in action tonight at Jalapenos with the return of Dave Mattacks.  It’s not too late, so hurry down.

And tomorrow (Wednesday) you’ve got six choices, including 3 hosts with special guests.  Looks like hump day is picking up as Summer winds down.  See the full lineup here.

Book Launch Party Photos by Charlie Carroll

Thank you to everyone who backed Tales of Bong Tree Island, and all who came to the party to help celebrate its launch, and Charlie Carroll for capturing it.  For those who missed the party or got the wrong info that the party was going to be on September 15th (my mistake), or just want to come back for another party, there will be a repeat party on September 15th so we can finish off all the wine, crackers and cheese, cookies, etc. that didn’t get opened Sunday (unfortunately the artichoke and lobster dip is all gone and won’t be repeated).  Always good to have a reason for another party before summer ends.  Saturday, 5:00-8:00pm, everyone is welcome.

Lou Holtz Quote of The Week From Greg Bover

September 7, 2012

“Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it.”

Lou Holtz (1937-    )

image

Best known as a football coach and motivational speaker, Holtz is a West Virginia native who had a brief career as a player at Kent State. He held head coaching positions at six different academic institutions and compiled a 249-132-7 record. Although hired by Notre Dame with a lifetime contract, it is rumored that he was forced to retire before he broke Knute Rockne’s record of 105 wins with that team.

Another banner musical week on Cape Ann

Last week we told you about Marina Evans‘ new release (see post here).  Well she’s got another one this week, next week and the week after (check this link for new songs each week).  Plus she’s got a parallel project going on in Italy, which she plans to release in October.  And you can see her at the Block Party on Saturday  (full Block Party lineup coming soon).  Busy Woman!

I caught Marina last night just before her set at the Rhumb Line.  Here’s part 1 of that interview.  More fun video and a couple of surprises from Marina coming later this week.

But no need to wait for the Block Party.  There’s plenty going on all week.  Remember Rob Newton’s FALL INTO THE RHYTHM movie/music celebration at Cape Ann Community Cinema starts tomorrow with LA CENERENTOLA  and features The Cowsills on Thursday (more about that here).

Check the week’s full music lineup here.

Instructions For Beach Meditation

Instructions for Beach Meditation

Sit comfortably with good posture on a quiet section of the beach.

Take a few cleansing breaths and then partially close your eyes.

Notice your breathing and hear it accompany the surf

and the breeze and the smell of the sea and the soft gong of

the buoy and the touch of the sand and the warmth of the sun.

*    *    *    *

Draw breath into the center of your body, in and out,

in and out, and let the sounds and smells and sights and

feelings slowly and gently lift from your mind.

*    *    *    *

Allow your eyes to stare about six feet in front of you

and perhaps soon your vision will focus

on one bright spot; all else falling into the darkened background.

*    *    *    *

Feel the breath enter and leave in a steady rhythm.

Count them as they come and go and know

that all sound, all sight, all thought,

all feeling is fleeting

and what remains

is simply

being.

What the Rubber Duck? #002

This a variation on Where is the Rubber Duck. First one was too easy. See that sign attached to the Rubber Duck door? Where did it come from?No hints except that the sign was fully visible some years ago In Gloucester. If no one gets it I will start giving hints. If you know the answer come on down to EJ’s party this afternoon to get your Rubber Duck autographed GMG stickah.
