Sunday Surfers

I stopped and watched some surfers enjoying Good Harbor Beach on Sunday during a late morning walk. On Saturday I was lucky enough to watch tons of whales off the other side of Thacher’s Island thanks to a phenomenal trip with Cape Ann Whale Watch. That post will be coming soon. So lucky to live on the ocean!

Pat And Jim’s Spring Break Adventure Part 2

As I described earlier, we took an Amtrak vacation recently which included time in Washington DC as well as in Pigeon Forge TN where we visited the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This post will address the Washington DC leg of our trip. First let me say GMG Jim is a great DC tour guide so if you have questions for him, reach out.

We took the Amtrak from South Station to Union Station in DC which was about an 8 hour ride. It’s very similar to airplane travel without the hassle of TSA checks. You are told your luggage is limited like on an airline but no one seemed to be chcecking that. We opted for coach seating which meant no assigned seats. That worked our for us even though the train was quite full on that Monday morning. There are some limited food options but don’t expect a scenic ride because it really wasn’t that.

Amtrak set us up in a nice downtown hotel within walking distance to public transportation as well as popular sights. We visited the Zoo, Air and Space, American History, Museum of the American Indian, Botanical Garden, and several monuments (monuments tour inlcuded in this trip)…all with no admission charges though some required timed ticket entries so check on that. I HIGHLY recommend visiting the monuments at night. They are very striking.

The city is mostly clean and feels safe. We only saw the National Guard at Union Station otherwise no active presence visible to us but we felt very secure and safe. If you haven’t visited the nation’s capital city, it should be near the top of your list. Here’s some of what we saw there:

Farmer’s Fridge Vending Machine in the Jet Blue terminal at Logan providing some healthy alternatives in what looks like large peanut butter jars. Nice option rather than eating some gross greasy food that would sap all your energy.

Cape Ann Animal Aid Pet Of The Week

Meet Mel! This quirky little guy is about 2 years old and traveled to us all the way from Georgia. Mel is quite the character. He is always entertaining himself and will most definitely, entertain the lucky taker who adopts him. Mel is a big fan of toys, specifically his toy mice. He is talkative and sweet and is very in tune with his humans. Mel is not a fan of other cats or animals in the home and would probably do best in a home where he can be your one and only baby. This guy is full of spunk and charm and is ready to find people he can call his own.

Have you fallen in love yet? Fill out an application for Mel here! capeannanimalaid.org/catapp

Studies Show CBD Mends Broken Bones Faster!

 BY ANGEL WINGS WELLNESS

Studies have shown individuals with broken bones that have taken CBD experience faster stitching and mending of a fracture as compared to individuals not taking CBD. Bone growth is thought to be one of the potential benefits of this supplement . Ongoing research is being conducted to determine if CBD can contribute to overall improved bone health, which may lead to quicker healing of broken bones and a reduction in the symptomatic side effects associated with Osteoporosis.

I myself experienced this phenomena when I broke my arm and took extra CBD in all forms in the first 8 weeks of the recovery healing and both my Dr and my Physical therapist noticed that I was ahead of the healing process approximately 2 weeks compared to someone with the same injury. Stock your garden with beautiful vegetable seedlings at Backyard Growers’ annual Community Seedling Sale. All seedlings are grown by our friends at Cedar Rock Gardens in West Gloucester. Proceeds support Backyard Growers’ work cultivating equitable access to the resources, space & knowledge people need to grow their own food in our community.

Plus, this year’s event will feature an early season pop-up Backyard Growcery, downtown Gloucester’s farmers market. In addition to seedlings, attendees can shop fresh, high-quality produce from local farmers, enjoy prepared foods and live music, join kids’ activities, enter exciting raffles, and celebrate growing food together in community.

Dinner At Zabagliones in Ipswich

We’ve been wanting to get to Market St in Ipswich to try Zabagliones so off we went on a recent weekday night. When we entered shortly after their opening at 5 PM, we were the only customers but by the time we left, several other tables had joined us. Clearly pretty popular for a weekday dinner. Bread and oil were delivered, specials were shared and we consulted the menu. I ordered Chicken Braccioletini and Jim ordered spaghetti and meatballs. The meatballs were homemade and quite large. Enough was leftover to take home but I scarfed mine right up. The atmosphere is relaxing, the location is easy and the service was great. We enjoyed our experience very much and will definitely return sooner than later. More info at this link.

Brisk business, fans and family for David Cox, acclaimed consummate generalist photographer #GloucesterMA

photos: May 2, 2026

Surrendering to his effortless curiosity and the pleasures of true admiration, artistic possibilities are infinite for David Cox. And so, no matter the subject–people, nature, sports, art–David Cox renders great portraits in color, composition, grandeur and joy.

Held at Seacoast in Gloucester, MA., this two day David Cox exhibition/reception grew out of available printed and framed inventory at Main Street Antiques, spanning decades of engagement with his unmistakable eye. You can find more of David’s work at Main Street Antiques, Cape Ann Giclee, and one day soon a substantial selection from his archive heading to Cape Ann Museum with a future show and more planned there.
