The random conspicuous yet unused digital display signs by St. Peters were removed.

The new city wayfinding signs express a little bit of the original Gloucester Harbor Walk design (Cambridge Seven Assoc.), which gave a nod in part to famous subway maps/color legibility. Not sure how/where the eventual site design may land for the current iterations. If the “subway” stop signs were integrated and situated next to parking meters and a HarborWalk marker — and mindful of not blocking sitelines– it might help.

photos: Sept. 24, 2026. Storm prep bustle was light because so many had cleared out ahead of Labor day. The footbridge to Cape Hedge is removed. The seawall stairs have not been removed for the season.

“Opening at Jane Deering Gallery is Katherine Downey Miller | Waterborne on Saturday September 26th with a reception from 3-5pm.  For Katherine Downey Miller, a renowned New England artist known for her work that moves between landscape and abstraction, this exhibition is a homecoming. It was at Halibut Point, less than five miles from the gallery’s door, that she first absorbed the raw energy of the Atlantic as a child; and it is that coastline—its beauty, its violence, its vast unknowability—that she has spent a career translating into paint. The exhibition brings together works on canvas and paper in oil and acrylic, tracing the arc of a practice rooted in landscape and drawn, inevitably, toward the sea.

Gallery hours:  Fri & Sat 1-5pm; Sun 1-4pm; and by appointment at 781-405-5050.

Pink House Marker in Newbury

The iconic Pink House in Newbury was demolished about 18 months ago and I miss seeing it when we drive up there. I was glad to see this marker honoring its memory.

Make sure that you are not using your Casella carts until the Casella service starts on October 1st, 2026.

Republic has let us know that they will refuse to service anyone who is using a Casella trash cart, as they cannot legally empty a Casella branded cart. If you are using your Casella cart before October 1st, your trash/recylcing won’t be picked up!

If you have any questions, please call the DPW at 978-325-5600.

I first learned about FlowerBuds through Good Morning Gloucester last summer, connected with Leslie Doig, and ended up volunteering with them this summer. FlowerBuds was born during COVID as part of Supportive Living at Old Farm, a home for adults with brain injuries, it’s such a special program.

I’ve loved seeing firsthand the joy these flowers bring to people throughout Gloucester and Rockport. As they wrap up their fifth summer, I’d love to help spread the word!
