Author Talk with Peter Swanson at the Sawyer Free Library

 ~ SAWYER FREE LIBRARY

Please join the Sawyer Free Library on Thursday evening, January 8, from 5:30 to 6:30 pm for a conversation with Peter Swanson, acclaimed local author of Kill Your Darlings, The Kind Worth Killing, Eight Perfect Murders, and more. The talk will be followed by a Q&A session and an opportunity for book signings. Copies of Peter’s books will be available for purchase at the event courtesy of The Bookstore of Gloucester.

The event will take place in the Sawyer Free Library’s Community Room, located on the ground floor at 2 Dale Avenue. To register visit sawyerfreelibrary.org.

Peter Swanson is a Sunday Times and New York Times bestselling author of eleven novels, including The Kind Worth Killing, winner of the New England Society Book Award and a finalist for the CWA Ian Fleming Steel Dagger, and Her Every Fear, an NPR Book of the Year. His work has been translated into more than 30 languages, and his stories, poetry, and features have appeared in Asimov’s Science Fiction, The Atlantic, Measure, The Guardian, The Strand Magazine, and Yankee Magazine.

In his latest novel, The Kind Worth Saving, Swanson revisits characters from The Kind Worth Killing, as a private investigator follows a possibly adulterous husband—only to discover that the twisted trail leads back to the woman who hired him.

A graduate of Trinity College, the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and Emerson College, Swanson lives in Gloucester with his wife.

Chronology of the Holidays

Here is some of what was happening (mostly outdoors) during the Holiday Season.

Dec 21: Cape Ann Collectors paired art with wines during their ‘Palette to Palate’ Exhibit.
Dec 23: A White-tailed Deer family was looking for something green.
Dec 23: Canada Goose. “Survived Thanksgiving. Hope Christmas isn’t more of a threat.”
Dec 24: An impressive Christmas Eve sunset, with the Boston skyline.
Dec 25: A female Common Eider bobbing in the waves. Merry Christmas.
Dec 26: Ice conditions not perfect for skating. “I’ll rest and check my messages.”
Dec 27: Male Northern Cardinal. Forget about camouflage in the snow.
Dec 28: “I could swear this birdbath used to have drinking water.”
Dec 31: Talk about ‘flash frozen’ around this small rock in Niles Pond.
Jan 1: ‘Bear’ finally loves the weather. Happy New Year.
Jan 2: A small part of a flock of European Starlings taking a break on the wires.
Jan 3: Iceboating on Niles Pond. Brakes are still crude technology.
Jan 3: The sun breaks through later. Student learner riding on one of the runners.

Inner Harbor Holidays

This photo of the inner harbor, taken back in 2020, popped up on my phone the other day. I believe I took it before the beautiful lobster trap tree was moved to its current position at Solomon Jacobs Park and because the tree is missing from the photo. I’ve been lucky to look out my window this season and see the tree next to the Adventure. It’s been interesting to hear who prefers its new position to its former position on Main Street.
