Everybody’s been bugging me: when you gonna bring back that fabulous guy: Mr. Brian Templeton. Well, here he is. Brian never fails to amaze me with his great tunes and urgent vocals. Plays guitar and harp, too.
Not only that, but he’s dragging in the ferocious Mr. Billy Loosigian and the Norden Bombsight of the drums: Mr. David Mattacks. I’m gonna stand there with my wooden chair and bullwhip and try to keep these cats on the earth. Rhumb Line Thursday 8:30 to 11:30.

5/11 – Allen Estes
On Saturday, July 23rd, the most recognized names in New England Folk and Americana music share the stage on Gloucester’s historic waterfront for the first annual EBB & FOLK.
2016 Grammy Award winner for best country song, Lori McKenna, headlines an extraordinary day of music featuring Chris Trapper, Mark Erelli, Chad Perrone, Amy Fairchild, Brian Jarvis, Fozzie Hill and Allen Estes.
This all-day, musical extravaganza takes place under the event tent at Cape Ann Marina (Mile Marker One) on the banks of the Annisquam River just feet from historic Gloucester Harbor. In addition to a full day of live music, the the event will feature Cape Ann artisans and merchants presenting the best that the area has to offer.
The Crossing is a Celtic folk group that utilizes fiddle, cello, flute, whistles, guitars, bodhrans (frame drums), harp and bagpipes to bring alive the essential jigs and reels. Their original songs carry on the centuries-old tradition of good storytelling found in the celtic lands. Add their rich harmonizing vocals, and the result is captivating and energizing. The Crossing has been entertaining audiences since 1984, playing concert halls, pubs, gatherings, churches, Irish fairs and festivals. Their latest album, Baile (Home), exemplifies their traditional foundation with themes of faith, hope, love and truth.
The Crossing will perform at the Orthodox Congregational Church in Lanesville, MA (1120 Washington Street) at 6:00 PM on Saturday, April 30. Admission will be free of charge and a free will donation will be taken. For more information, call 978.283.2345

We all want to feel good. Â “So why do we love the Blues?” you ask. Â As it turns out, music in general — and sad songs in particular — help us feel better. Â Really. Â Here are 4 scientific studies on the subject: Science Alert, PLOS, NAI, University of Chicago.
Tomorrow (Saturday) night you have 4 good reasons to feel better … and all 4 are right down the road at Beverly’s intimate, acoustically stellar Larcom Theatre:
Well,I’ve signed up for elective surgery on my flabby elbow skin (hetero-weenisectomy) this Thursday and will be be busy recuperating with a Martini or three, so , in the meantime, why not stop holding your breath and inhale a little bit of Ms. Lisa Marie who will be charging in on her caparisoned horse, lance aboiling ,to skewer you with another night of electro-convulsive blues, and other music. And she’s bringing along the right people. She’s got Johnny Juxo to bang his shoe on the keyboard, “Silverfish” Steve on scratchy catarrh, and Dana “Bonefish” Bonardi on the bangulators. Sounds like a plan. Me, I’ll be showing up late in my black suit, in case you wanna see what I look like when I buy the farm! (minus the formaldehyde).

What Time Is It, Mr. Fox? will be performing with the Rockport High School Madrigal Choir. The Madrigal Choir, led by Patti Pike, will be opening up the evening, and then accompanying What Time Is It, Mr. Fox? on several songs at the end of the night. A percentage of ticket sales will be donated back to the RPS Music Department.
Mr Fox is working on a new album, and will be performing those new songs on the 29th.
It’s also lead singer-songwriter, 3rian King’s birthday! What Time Is It, Mr. Fox? features Nathan Cohen on violin & trumpet, Renee Dupuis on vocals, piano, and melodica, Joe Cardoza on upright bass, Dennis Monagle on drums, and 3rian King on voice, acoustic guitar, & piano. The band’s sound has been described as Tom Waits and Amy Winehouse performing in a secret French cafe.
Joey’s poll from yesterday asking “WHICH IS A BIGGER EMOTIONAL HIT FOR YOU, THE LOSS OF DAVID BOWIE OR PRINCE?” struck a powerful chord in me. It feels like the greatest musicians of our era are dropping so fast we can’t even keep track. Case in point: Lonnie Mack (blues/rock guitar pioneer and major influence on Stevie Ray Vaughan) also died yesterday.  So what do we do? One response is for Vickie and me book as many of our idols as quickly as possible and rush out to see the ones who are too big for the venues we book. It’s beginning to feel like a race against time.
At the same time, we think it’s important to showcase young artists, who might become the next Prince or Bowie or any of the dozen other greats who have left us over the past year. To that end, we produce several “rising star” shows a year — and our next one is a Rockin’ Blues Benefit next Saturday, April 30 at Beverly’s Larcom Theatre to raise money for Harborlight Community Partners.
In addition to featuring three of the region’s top talent: Delta Generators, Willie J. Laws Band and Danielle Miraglia, this show has some profound significance: 1) It’s the last Delta Generators Show with Craig Rawding fronting the band — and 2) We will auction off a guitar (thanks to Guitar Center) signed by all the artists to raise money for Harborlight Community Partners. Â This will likely be the last guitar — perhaps the last thing ever — signed by all the current members of the Delta Generators.
If you live in Gloucester, you may have seen Danielle Miraglia here. In 2014, we brought her to Gloucester for the first time to perform with James Montgomery at a benefit for The Open Door, then again at the Cape Ann Solstice with Allen Estes and Charlie Farren.  She’s also been at the Rhumb Line.
On Sunday morning at 9AM, Danielle will be Aurelia Nelson’s special guest — and her only guest — on her North Shore 104.9 radio show Curtain Up.  You’ll hear Danielle perform some of her songs along with a tribute to her favorite artist, Prince.  Now, Danielle isn’t one of those people who waited until yesterday to honor Prince.  Here’s a transcript of an interview she gave 10 years ago in Boston Beats:
Question: “If you could play on stage with anyone alive, who would it be?”
Danielle: “Oh, Prince. Even though I would be completely intimidated by him, and probably just faint. And he’s my height, so it would work. Â All his dancers are really short, because they can’t be taller than him or it would just look funny. Â I don’t have to play anything, I’ll just roll around on stage. Â I’ll just hold onto his leg. Â You can put that in print if you want.”
Check out Danielle at Gloucester’s UU Church fundraiser here (by Cape Ann TV):

Formed in 1999 by lead guitarist JJ Rassler (founding member of influential Boston bands DMZ and guitarist / producer for The Queers) and singer/rhythm guitarist Jen D’Angora (The Dents, Jenny Dee and the Deelinquents), along with bassist Mike Yocco and drummer Dan Styklunas, The Downbeat 5 draws on British invasion bands like the Yardbirds and Animals, spikes the brew with the toughest female vocals this side of a women’s prison riot, and tops it all off with decades worth of aggression, attitude and volume. The band is often heard on Little Steven’s Underground Garage and is featured on his “Coolest Songs in the World” compilation series. The DB5 have shared the stage with such acts as; Holly Golightly, Magic Christian, The Hoodoo Gurus, The Pretty Things, The Knitters, The Blasters, The Zombies, Flaming Stars, Preachers Kids, Muffs, Dick Dale, Detroit Cobras, Sylvain Sylvain, Jayne County and countless like minded bands. Their relentlessly tough live shows have sometimes been augmented with the guest appearance of friend and Animals guitarist, Hilton Valentine.
Nose-busting Mr. Chris “Stovall” Brown returns this Thursday for yet another rousing evening of Bad jokes, incredible glitar and heartfelt vocals. Always a pleasure to have mr. B. around. He keeps me honest, knows a million toons and has a new wireless rig that allows him to communicate with the planet Altair IV, as well as jump around all over the place whilst whanging out yet another incredible solo enroute to the front door. You gotta see this.
Of course, our Gatling drummmbler aka Mr. Chris Anzelone will remain forcibly rooted to the floor and the groove via welded connection to me; the basest.
