Dave Sag’s Blues Party to host Justin Quinn This Thursday Night

From Mr. Dave Sag’s himself,
I’m due for a divine seizure this week as I try to cope with the arrival of  Justin Quinn and his mock-men from  Mars, descending upon us all like a big egg-laying chicken, smothering me with feathers of regret and weighing me down with the down of eggstasy. I’m gonna crawl out from under the straw of Lethe and swim to higher ground where your crawling masses are yawning to be free. Joanne, please don’t edit this. Please!
This is one of my favorite units… everytime these guys show up… it’s madness and a dancin’ slugfest.  And then everybody says: where did you find them? Well, kiddies, they’ve been here before: you just drink too much. So, here’s another chance to find out what  everybody knows: these guys are radioactive, are hot beyond repair, and don’t have any collective bargaining, to boot.
Besides the Justinian ,(on harps and vocals), the unit consists of Jon Ross, on gritar and ice-shelf noises and Per Hanson, the three-armed drummmbler and concussionist par eggcellence. You gotta hear this guy. He scares me mightily.
Of course, Greg T. and his self- inflicted putty knife will be there, filling in the wholes, and me too, on base, and hoping to steal  second. Do not drive or attempt to operate heavy machinery until  you know how Justin will affect your output.

Neshama Carlebach To Play The Liu

Good morning Joey,

Your website is fantastic!  And easy to get around on.  I have only been here around 47 years so far, served on the Gloucester City Council back in the 70’s,

etc.  My name is Willy Greenbaum.

I am hoping you can post this music announcement.  The Jewish Temple that burned down on Middle Street when the Lorraine Apartments burned, in late 2007 is putting up a new building and to celebrate the construction the Temple is sponsoring an ecumenical concert on March 12 at the Shalin Liu Performance Center in Rockport.  It stars a nationally know Jewish female singer, Neshama Carlebach, her band, and members of the Green Pastures Baptist Choir from New York.

Should be a great night of music.  Here is an announcement for it, with a photo of Neshama.

Community Event Announcement: Neshama Carlebach Concert – March 12 in

Rockport.

Temple Ahavat Achim in Gloucester is celebrating construction of its new building with a March 12 ecumenical concert starring Neshama Carlebach and members of the Green Pastures Baptist Choir of New York. The Temple’s historic synagogue was destroyed by fire in December 2007.

The concert will be at the Shalin Liu Performance Center in Rockport, Mass. It will begin at 8 and is open to the general public. Sponsor tickets, including preferred seating and a reception with Neshama Carlebach are $100. Regular tickets are $50.

For more information or tickets go to www.rockportmusic.org or phone 978-546 –7391.

Neshama Carlebach, daughter of the famous “singing rabbi”, Shlomo Carlebach, is one of the superstars of contemporary Jewish music, but unlike her father, her repertoire goes well beyond Jewish music and Jewish audiences.

Ten Foot Polecats at The Farm in Essex ~ Tonight ~ 2-18-2011

I have known  two of Ten Foot Polecats for over five years and seen this band for over two  following them all over Massachusetts to many venues. They tap into the past in such a way you would think they were from it for real. Deep nitty gritty, rockin, smokin blues. I do not know how anyone can sit still with out wiggling around or getting up on the floor to shake their stuff. Dave Darling the drummer left at the end of the year and now Chad has taken over. I don’t think they could have picked a better choice to fill his place, although the way I see it no one can. Dave will surely be missed. It is never the same when an original member leaves but on the other hand you look forward to new things such as more originals like they played out in Worcester a week ago.

See What My Buddy Done and Squeeze are up on the top of the list for favorites. They cover so many songs in one night and I am looking forward to hearing the new ones again and hoping for a new CD to come out soon.

Their bio:

Ten Foot Polecats are a three piece band from the Boston/Worcester Massachusetts area but their influence is drawn from deep roots of the North Mississippi Hill Country.  They have constructed a very definite sound that sets them apart from other artists as they bring a very aggressive attitude and approach to their brand of blues and roots.  Due to this, they have made quite an impression on the national and local music scenes as they are currently one of the few blues based bands booked across the country in the rock, punk, and psychobilly circuits along with the various blues and roots circles.

Check them out,  have a listen.  The player starts right up when you click on their site. I love them and maybe you will too.

Huh-Yoooge! The Bandit Kings are back from LA!

Hello lovely Banditos, we meet again…
What’s the good word?
When last we spoke, The Bandit Kings were just about to get a stellar review from Francis DiMenno in The Noise, Boston. Here’s a snippet:

“…These musicians are no ironists, camp followers, or genre clowns; rather than treating country as a bad joke, they take the genre, and their work, quite seriously indeed, enough to make even a jaded connoisseur want to really like them, and the care they have put into their debut collection is proof. I am even willing to stick my neck out onto the chopping block—something I’ve done about half a dozen times in the last twenty-six years-—and venture that these guys have the potential to be huge. Not lower-case “h” huge, but Huh-yooooge.
Note the four O’s! You can see the full amazing review here

More good stuff
This month marks The Bandit’s one-year anniversary as a band (they’ve been friends a lot longer—awww) and to celebrate, the BKs just returned from a STELLAH trip to LA where we were treated to warm breezes and purple mountain majesties…the show at The Mint was amazing and we want to extend special warm thank you’s to Rebecca at Lovestruck Productions (you rock), the awesome staff at The Mint, the fiendish fiddler, Danny Graziani, Nelson Bragg , Mr. Skip Hart for, well a lot of things, our friends and families who flew with us from Boston; everyone who flew from other cities; and of course all our friends from the LA-area who braved the 405 just make it to the show. THANK YOU.
Ann Marie says:  “The trip was such a great experience. We were so proud to bring some fresh Gloucester air to the west coast and show LA what we are made of.”

The Bandit Kings are:
Renee Dupuis on lead vocals and keys, Ann Marie, also on lead vocals, Dennis Monagle on drums, Joe Cardoza on bass, and Dan King on lead guitar. The Bandit Kings’ play original tunes written by the band members and hot b-sides by classic artists for longer shows. They have found bare-bones musical chemistry, including the rich meld of vocalists Ann Marie and Dupuis, who “both have voices that bring us back to the dawn of country rock, whisky soaked and raspy in just the right places while never crossing into the overpowering. The song is a rare treat that could have been tossed aside as a boring anachronism in less capable hands.” -Boston Band Crush
