Touch Tanks at Seapocket Lab GMHC, originally uploaded by captjoe06.
Here students and visitors can touch marine life and get interactive. It’s a great way to bring kids that don’t have any interaction with marine life into the fold.
There are many interesting activities for children and families at the GMHC.
My sister had her kids birthday party there a couple years ago and the kids had a great time.

GMHC Dive Exhibit, originally uploaded by captjoe06.
At the Gloucester Maritime Heritage Center, diver Paul Harling’s collection features equipment ranging from the homemade rig he used when he made his first dive in 1949 to contemporary helmets produced by Morse Diving, the oldest manufacturer of diving equipment.
He even has some one of those huge metal masks set up for kids to put their heads into and you can take photo’s.
His exhibit is open to the public for free 7 days a week and all year long. If you are looking for something to do with the kids or just taking a stroll along the waterfront, go check out Paul’s exhibit at the GMHC. Tell ’em Joey from Captain Joe’s sent you.
Brickhouse Board Shop, Gloucester, Ma, originally uploaded by captjoe06.
A couple of weeks ago I posted some pics of guys surfing on the Back Shore. As it turns out it was none other than the owners of the board shop on Bass Ave, Brickhouse.
They carry a decent line of swimwear, shades, surfboards, skateboards and the like. Great place to go for a gift for that teen in your life.

Kevin Zelnio, from Deep-Sea News recognized GoodMorningGloucester yesterday in this blog entry. It’s always nice when someone thinks your stuff is interesting enough to share with others, so thanks Kevin.
What was cool about his post was that he linked to a research report that study that shows how half blue lobsters get to be half blue.
If you get a chance check out Deep-Sea News, its packed with stuff that folks like us with ties to the ocean can’t get enough of.

Try Angle Moped Sales In Gloucester, originally uploaded by captjoe06.
Owner of Try Angle Moped Sales in Gloucester at the intersection of Railroad Ave, Maplewood Ave and Prospect. where he sells inexpensive mopeds.
The models I saw were priced from $1000-$1400. A great way to get around town in these days of high gas prices.
Similar Honda scooters run roughly $2500. Granted these aren’t Honda, but thats a huge difference in price for a brand new moped/scooter.

Reading the Naples Daily News this morning I came across an article from the Associated Press about Starbucks Corps’ new website which solicits customer ideas on how to improve the customer experience.
They showed one customer’s idea- “An express line for people who JUST WANT COFFEE! That way the coffee drinkers don’t have to wait so long in line behind all those people getting specialty drinks.”
An excellent idea for sure which got me thinking about a few of the changes I’d like to see.
First off I’d like to say that the prices for a cup of regular coffee at Starbucks is actually in line or a few cents cheaper than Dunkin Donuts here in Naples and back home, so kudos to Starbucks for that.
A couple of days ago I was at a Starbucks within a Target store. There were only two people in front of me in line. The young hipster chick behind the counter was incredibly friendly and bubbly, asking the people in front of me how they would like their latte machiatto prepared with a huge smile on her face.
This happy face attitude would soon change when yours truly came front and center and asked for his coffee of the day with cream and splenda. She quickly informed me that the creamer and sweeteners were located over there and I could prepare it myself. The problem was that I had the bean hanging off of me and she was being scootchie so I asked the girl if she could just put the cream and splenda in behind the counter. That friendly young coffee hipsters’ smile turned into a frown in an instant. You would have thought that I asked for something crazy.
Unfortunately this experience isn’t confined to this one particular Starbucks. It happens in nine out of ten of them. Whenever you ask for them to add your creamer and sweetener they act like it’s such a totally unreasonable request.
They will all honor your request, but almost every Starbucks barrista will turn from friendly coffee snob barrista to indignant huffy unhappy employee lickity split if you dare ask for them to prepare your regular cup o joe for you.
Watch for yourself how quickly you too can send these folks into a tailspin with what seems like a smple request.
It’s a regular cup of coffee FFS! Get over it!

I updated the Cape Ann Gas Prices Website this morning. Updated were 6 stations, if others pass by Willow Rest, Tally’s on Essex Ave,or Fosters on Eastern Ave, jot down the prices if you would and update the site. It’s useful and informative especially when there are wide swings in the prices from station to station.
The last time I updated prices was 2 weeks ago and pretty much all the stations stayed at the same prices since then except one went down by 2 pennies and another by 10 cents.
The two Richdale’s self serve stations continue to be the cheapest gas around but only by two cents of a centrally located gas station which is full serve. For some people 2 cents a gallon might be enough incentive to get out and pump your own gas but for only 40 cents savings on a twenty gallon fill up in the cold weather we’ve been having I’ll take the full serve.
Check out the site and update it if you get a chance- Cape Ann Gas Prices Website
