My View of Life on the Dock
I was lucky to catch a small part of the Blackburn Challenge the other day. I wasn’t able to find our very own Paul Morrison and RD, but I did chance upon these pretty cool 6 person outriggers headed under the Cut Bridge.

So, I could go on and on about how unbelievable it was to see Paul McCartney play at Fenway Park last night….and I probably will in tomorrow’s post…but, for now…. Here is a tidbit of something you are not apt to see again in this lifetime. Paul McCartney, Bob Weir, and Rob Gronkowski performing Helter Skelter….on stage…in Center Field…of Fenway Park. Just saying.

Gorgeous… and I love their names.
Courage, Invincible, Gallant, Daring, and Warrior

If someone were to ask me what my favorites foods are, I’d have to say a really good cheese, sushi, a perfectly ripe watermelon, a delicious piece of fish, and the cranberry nut muffin from Helmut’s Strudel in Rockport.
So, as often as possible, I steal away solo or with the boys (who worship at the altar of the raspberry cream croissant) and grab a quick treat at Helmut’s on “the Neck.”
Last week, Finn and I enjoyed a quick muffin and croissant on our own….only to be interrupted (happily) by Thatcher who arrived on his bike on the way to his early morning sailing lesson.
Monday, prior to heading off to work for a few hours, I hit Helmut’s on my own and ate my muffin at the end of the new Rockport Breakwater. A great way to organize my thoughts and do some strategizing before leaving town to start my day.

I took an early morning drive to snap a quick photo of the new seating area at the Top Dog on Bearskin Neck this morning. While there I had a nice little chat with the owner. He told me, after inquiring about Joey, that they have a new yellow awning coming to shade the area I had just photographed…and, oh, the small fact that they’ll soon be serving beer.
I’m sorry if you don’t share my enthusiasm, but come on! A loaded dog or fried clams, cheese fries, AND an ice cold beer on “the Neck.” Quintessential Summer!
Evidently, for now, they’ll be serving Sam Summer, Harpoon IPA, hopefully some Cape Ann Brewing Company beers, and Switchback from Vermont.
Good times.

Some days 1/2 sunny days are the best days….

I absolutely love taking a slow trip down the Annisquam River. It never gets old. I started to wonder the other day how many people who live on “the island” have maybe never enjoyed the same scenic boat ride. Some day soon I’ll use the GoPro and make a video, but in the meantime, here are some of my favorite homes, etc.
FYI….traffic is blocked from the rotary all the way over the bridge, past lobster land, past Sudbay, to the route 133 exit. Not moving. It looked like there was a tow truck at the very beginning of it all picking up a car. Slooooow Going!

Each time I drive down Storrow Drive on my way to Fenway I think, I should really bring the boys in here to bike ride or paddle board along/on the Charles and make a day of it.
What better way to end a day of doing just that than taking in a free movie on the lawn at the Hatch Shell?
Disclaimer: Upon writing this post, I realized that there isn’t a movie scheduled for this week…probably because of the 4th of July festivities, but I kept it as a “pick” because you can plan ahead for the remaining weeks of summer.

I found myself, for some reason, completely fascinated…albeit disgusted…by this act the other day. While watching, and ultimately video taping, I was torn between whether they were fighting or well, you know, procreating. There are certainly insects and the like that look like they are coming as opposed to going to confuse their prey. However, after a bit of research (yes, I actually did the research) it would seem that one was just being really nasty to the other one. I have to admit, wrong or not, I did eventually separate them with a stick because I couldn’t watch it anymore.
I hope that you all have a safe and wonderful holiday

A whole lot of turkey…

I feel like I talk about this once a month or so because it is such a good take. Park at Stage Fort Park, for FREE mind you, hop on the trolley, tour the city, jump on and off all day long if you’d like, and then be delivered right back to your car at the end of the day. You can choose to simply take a ride for exactly one hour….or make a day of it by stopping at several of its destinations. What an easy way to get to Good Harbor Beach!

Both boys have chosen, for a few years in a row, to have their birthday dinners at The Studio. Finn’s was last week and it was as delicious as always.
Truffel fries, edamame, twin lobster rolls, fish tacos, and tuna + avocado maki rolls….with super yummy chocolate strawberries for dessert.

After declaring that I’m not a lobster roll fan on a GMG podcast a couple of weeks ago I was feeling a little bit like I should give them another shot. I love lobster…but I haven’t been a big fan of cold lobster…with mayo.
So, I had one at the Beauport Hotel with a cup of clam chowder. It was yummy and made for a pretty picture. And, I’d be remiss to not add, the chowder was one of the best I’ve had.

Some props need to go to this walker. A little help here….because I missed his name. We all know the first round of the Greasy Pole is a “Courtesy Round” and the flag can not be grabbed. But it is clear that victory would have been his if he were allowed to pull the flag down with him. Actually….with his hand wrapped around the pole…I’m not sure how he was able to leave it up there.
