My View of Life on the Dock
Even without the iconic red paint visible, Motif No. 1 is still pretty. Goodnight, Rockport.

A few turkeys were walking around the side yard of campus yesterday so I walked outside to take some photos of them. Imagine my horror when I realized that one had a long arrow straight through its body! While it seemed to walking fine and keeping up with its friends, it was totally heartbreaking to see. I can only imagine the pain and discomfort the arrow must be causing.
I made a phone call to Beverly Animal Control who told me to call Fish and Wildlife who told me to call Boston Wildlife Rescue. They asked for photos and asked for us to keep an eye out to see if the turkey is able to roost at night and whether or not it looks like it is eating, etc. Hopefully they will come find it this week to see if there is anything they can do.

Mother’s Day morning I slept until almost 9:00 and woke up to find my boys dressed in button-down shirts and ready to go. Turns out we had 10:30 reservations over at the Sea Glass restaurant at the Castle Manor Inn.
While the weather wasn’t perfect….brunch was. When asked, we were fine sitting outside on the tented and enclosed deck. I’m all in for eating with a view whenever possible and the heaters made it warm enough for us. The Mother’s Day Buffet was loaded with with a variety of dishes and was really delicious. There were several traditional breakfast choices alongside dishes such as chowder, chicken parm, stuffed eggplant, steak tips, and more. While eating, the staff also walked around with platters of stuffed clams, shrimp cocktail, and stuffed mushrooms.
To sweeten the deal, the dessert table included chocolate mousse cake and creme brulee!
Much thanks to the staff for helping to make Mother’s Day pretty lovely….even in the torrential rain. I look forward to going back in the warmth of the summer for a less windy meal.

I wish I had taken more photos to share in this post, but I was happy to be enjoying the time with the family.

I stopped by Learning Express in Beverly yesterday afternoon…as I often do because it is so close to work….and discovered a sign on the door that says, “We’re Moving.”
Luckily, they’re not moving far…just down the road in fact, but you still might want to make a mental note so you’re not surprised when you go to visit them.

Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week occurred a couple of weeks ago and my co-workers and I were b.e.y.o.n.d spoiled by our fabulous parent community. Amongst so many other generous and amazing surprises (goodie bags, gift certificates, massages, raffle items, etc) were some delicious faculty luncheons.
One day lunch was delivered by b.good in Beverly. While I find myself at the Dodge Street Plaza kind of often when running to the Paper Store, Modells, Staples, etc. I actually hadn’t tried b.good yet…but I’ll be going in the near future for sure.
The food was really terrific…and pretty to look at. As if lunch on Monday wasn’t enough…Tuesday morning brought a Smoothie bar…also from b.good!

Finn and I had a great lunch on Sunday with some good friends. The food and the scenery were delicious, but the table next to us were a bunch of animals 😉

I did this a few years ago with the boys and it was so much fun. I keep meaning to go back!

When asked which bait will attract the most minnows, would you guess bread, hotdogs, chocolate covered granola bar, or cheese?
Well, Finn wanted to know. My little budding angler and future fishing show host (if you ask him) decided to find the answer to that question for science fair this week. He chose four types of bait, filled four traps each night, set them in Henry’s Pond at Pebble Beach at 7:00 pm, jumped out of bed at 6:00 a.m., hauled his traps, and counted his catch.
You’ll have to watch the video to see which type of bait did the job the best. I’m pretty proud of my littlest fisherman!

We found ourselves down at Pebble Beach last night. It was chillier than expected, but still a pretty night down there….before taking off for a 7:30 baseball game.

Bearskin Neck is coming to life. Some old favorites are thankfully back for another season, some new places are popping up, and…in this case….some surprises are coming. All are reasons to make your way to Rockport to spend the day soon!

This past weekend was one of those weekends that make me appreciate the little things. We didn’t do anything over-the-top exciting, but we did a lot….and had a blast.
The weekend began with the boys’ baseball parade and season’s opening ceremonies. While I barely made it because I couldn’t quite get out of work on time, they had a great time. Saturday began with a long walk through town with one boy and two dogs. It was so great to see Rockport opening up around us, to feel the sunshine, and to hear the sounds of, dare I say, summer. Later we watched some good buddies play ball, hit Top Dog for an early dinner, went to Rockport High School’s baseball game under the lights, and ended the night at Long Beach Dairy Maid before bringing a little friend home to Gloucester.
Sunday Funday brought Bocce Ball on the boulevard with Grampy (who should be reading this….so, we apologize again that the boys couldn’t get along super well when teamed against each other on the court), lunch outside at Mile Marker One, some science fair homework, a walk on the beach, baseball practice, and then a shift feeding the baby goats up at Appleton Farms (pinch me) thanks to some great friends.
While I don’t necessarily need the reminder…it is always great to get out and about and get in touch with just why we love living on Cape Ann. Good times.

Spring is here…summer is right around the corner….and, in my humble opinion, every yard needs Cornhole. And, if you’re going to have a set, why not have a set cooler than your neighbors’?
Really, if you’re being honest, the only question to ask yourself is, “Exactly what do I want painted on mine?”
Should you go with the Team Spirit vibe, school colors, favorite vacation spot, favorite band, monogrammed as a wedding or anniversary gift, totally custom and off the chart? There’s absolutely a blank slate (or two) calling your name!
I recently ordered a set of Dan’s Custom Cornhole Creations with our school logo painted on them. First of all, they were done so quickly….secondly, they’re awesome. They are going to be such a perfect addition to campus for both the students and the faculty/staff alike. Friday afternoon Faculty Fun will surely be centered around some friendly games of cornhole in the very near future!
If you own a company and have a logo, you need these. If you, say…for example…run a pretty successful blog and have oh, I don’t know maybe a seagull for a logo, you need these. Just saying.
If you are looking for a Father’s Day gift, a house warming gift, or a birthday gift…here you go. If you have a friend with a sweet yard and want to ensure you score a few invites over the course of the summer, you might want to consider ordering him/her a set. The possibilities are endless, the beers are cold, the bean bags are waiting to be tossed. Make the call.

Things colorful kayaks are all lined up waiting for someone to take them for a spin.

For the record, I highly recommend the Sunrise Saison…. an “Ale brewed with Strawberries and Rhubarb.”

We were psyched to discover that our hotel in Hilton Head had, in addition to the pools, beach, volleyball, etc., some pretty sweet outdoor entertainment in the form of porch and yard games. The boys rolled the giant wooden dice, played Connect Four, Chess, Checkers, and Ping Pong. Likewise, one of the restaurants that we stumbled upon in Key Largo had a great set up off to the side with fire pits, Corn Hole, giant Jenga, Ring Toss, and more. It was lots of fun to sit outside at night and listen to the live music at the Tiki Bar and outdoor restaurant while the boys happily played those games.
Those are totally my kind of places and, while we have some of that type of thing around here, I’d like to see more of it.
Only turtles permitted beyond this point.

The boys found this rock the other day in front of our terrace in the Bahamas. Turns out that it was painted and hidden in Ohio by a member of the Northeast Ohio Rocks! group. I snapped a couple of photos and shared our find on their Facebook page. In no time the “owner” of the rock wrote back saying,
We just painted that rock a few weeks ago (last week of March over our Spring Break) and hid in our tiny little hometown at a gas station. We knew it had been found as it was gone not long after we placed it there, but never dreamed it would make it out of the country! I painted that rock because my 7 year old son is obsessed with the Goodyear Blimp and was able to take a ride in it two years ago! I can’t wait to see where it will end up!
Kind of cool. So, now it is our turn to hide the rock. Hmmm. After the Bahamas we were off to the Islamorada and Key Largo in the Florida Keys for a couple of nights, now we’re in Hilton Head for two more days, and then we’ll drive through a whole bunch of states before landing home in Rockport.
I wonder where the rock will end up next. Great fun! Thanks, Northeast Ohio Rocks!
