What: Illustrated children’s book, “Let’s Go, Animal Tracks in the Snow”. Award winning entry in the past year’s Cape Ann Reads contest, written by Diane Polley of Essex and beautifully illustrated by Marion Hall of Manchester. Guess who is coming to the North Shore Arts Association September, 22nd 2 – 4 Yes…It’s BRIAN RUTENBERG Brian Rutenburg is… Widely considered to be one of the finest American painters of his generation, Brian Rutenberg has spent forty years honing a distinctive method of compressing the rich color and form of his native coastal South Carolina into complex landscape paintings that imbue material reality with a deep sense of place. He is a Fulbright Scholar, a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellow, a Basil Alkazzi USA Award recipient, an Irish Museum of Modern Art visiting artist program participant, and has had over two hundred exhibition throughout North America. Rutenberg’s paintings are included in such museum collections as Yale University Art Gallery, The Butler Institute of American Art, Bronx Museum of Art, Peabody Essex Museum of Art, Greenville County Museum of Art, Provincetown Art Association and Museum, South Carolina State Museum, and many others. His popular YouTube videos “Brian Rutenberg Studio Visits” are viewed daily by people all over the world. Radius Books published a full color monograph in 2008. Jude Abbe Pre-Demo Studio Showroom Pop Up Show Aug. 27- Sept. 1 Demonstration September 1 (2pm) Jude Abbe – Oil Impressionist – Plein Air Painter. Jude studied with Roger Curtis for several years, more recently working with many others, including Charles Movalli, Mary Minifie, David Curtis, Christopher Zhang, Jonatan McPhillips and T.M. Nicholas, to name a few. Using the impressionist palette, she paints, landscapes, portraits and occasionally still life. Her work has been exhibited in shows and galleries throughout New England and New York. Paul Ciaramitaro Pre-Demo Studio Showroom Pop Up Show September 3 – 7 Demonstration September 7 (2pm) How to make something out of nothing! Paul Ciaramitaro, a lifelong resident of Cape Ann, began his love of art as a child. Over the years, he has been influenced by the Renaissance artists as well as Aldro Hibbard, Emile Gruppe, and especially Charles Movalli. In the 1970’s, Paul became a student of Movalli’s and was deeply inspired by him. He told Paul “If you learn something from every painting you do, you will become an artist”. In between his grueling hours as a commercial fisherman and dockworker, Paul sketched and painted in his spare time and worked hard to glean all that he could from his mentors. His commitment and talent led him to become a well-established and accomplished Cape Ann artist. His paintings have won many awards and his work can be found in both private and corporate collections, as well as in prestigious galleries and museums such as the Cape Ann Museum. Over the past several decades, Paul has taught numerous classes and workshops which have been widely attended, and he has served as a juror for many exhibition. He is a juried artist member of both the North Shore Arts Association and The Rockport Art Association & Museum. When asked about being an artist Paul says, “I’m serious about it. 34th Annual Schooner Festival

The 34th annual Gloucester Schooner Festival is ONE WEEK AWAY! The City of Gloucester is homeport to over 27 schooners for the Labor Day weekend. With more opportunities to get up close and on-board than ever before, this three-day event will be an historic Festival to remember. Come see Blluenose II and Columbia enter the harbor Friday afternoon and be greeted by several other vessels, including our own Gloucester schooner fleet, the Adventure, the Ardelle, and the Thomas E. Maritime Heritage Day, September 1st

ARTISTS, EXHIBITS, SCHOONERS, MUSIC & MORE

Celebrate Gloucester Schooner Festival’s Maritime Heritage Day on Saturday, September 1st, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. We are creating a busy, festive hub of traditional crafters, engaging community organizations in the First Ipswich Bank Pavilion, expert seafood demonstrations, foot-stomping music with Old Cold Tater, schooner sails, and fun-filled family activities on Harbor Loop. Enjoy local fare at our food tents. Schooners will be docked at Maritime Gloucester’s Webster Pier with others throughout the city.

The best seat in the harbor as history is being made is right here! Join Maritime Gloucester’s Executive Director, Michael De Koster as the fleet turns out to start the Gloucester Schooner Festival in style.

Be at part of this happening place!

Maritime Gloucester is seeking volunteer docents for our galleries and waterfront campus. Docents conduct tours and provide a unique and engaging visitor experience. Ideal candidates are cheerful, curious, strong public speakers, and have knowledge and interest in Cape Ann’s maritime history and culture. Training will be provided with opportunities to shadow current docents.
