New Gloucester hangout celebrates 149th “Run for the Roses”
Topside Bistro –formerly Topside Grille & Pub, that recently opened in Gloucester under new ownership and management – is gearing up for the 149th“Run for the Roses” by hosting a Kentucky Derby viewing party. In honor of Derby Day, sip on a twist of the official drink of Churchill Downs with the Larceny Mint Julep ($10) with lightly muddled mint, simple syrup, Larceny bourbon, and a double dash of angostura bitters served over crushed ice. From executive chef Sal Valenti’s kitchen, dig into a Kentucky Hot Brown Sandwich ($17) served open-faced with layered thinly-sliced turkey on buttery grilled Texas toast topped with creamy Kentucky mornay sauce, thick-cut applewood smoked bacon and sliced tomato.
Because the “greatest two minutes in sports” is upstaged by few things every year, come dressed to impress because there will be prizes for those who prove to be “Best in Show.” For “Best Dressed,” bring home a $100 gift card back to Topside; for “Best Couple Ensemble,” a $50 gift card; and for “Best Hat,” a $25 gift card.

The Cape Ann Museum, founded in 1875, exists to preserve and celebrate the history and culture of the area and to keep it relevant to today’s audiences. Spanning 44,000 square feet, the Museum is one of the major cultural institutions on Boston’s North Shore welcoming more than 25,000 local, national, and international visitors each year to its exhibitions and programs. In addition to fine art, the Museum’s collections include decorative art, textiles, artifacts from the maritime and granite industries, three historic homes, a Library & Archives and a sculpture park in the heart of downtown Gloucester. In Summer 2021, the Museum opened the 12,000 square foot Janet & William Ellery James Center at the Cape Ann Museum Green. The campus also includes three historic buildings – the White-Ellery House (1710), the recently acquired Babson-Alling House (c.1740), and an adjacent Barn (c. 1740), all located on the site at the intersection of Washington and Poplar Streets in Gloucester. CAM Green will re-open in the spring.
