Good morning Joey, I wanted to see if you would be interested in posting something about a fundraiser my family and I are hosting this coming weekend. The following is a little something about how the tournament came to be and what it supports. The flyer is attached. Thanks!
Team Smitty is a group of people comprised of Mike Smith’s family, friends, and people that Mike had touched over the years. Our goal is to make sure that Mike’s memory and spirit lives on in our hearts, minds, and memories! We are also dedicated to helping others in the same way that our community helped Mike, and all of us, during his times of struggle.
As part of our effort to help others, we hold an annual Texas Hold’Em Tournament and include a 50/50 drawing and raffle prizes. The tournament is a fun night that brings friends together, new and old, for a few laughs and a chance to share in Mike’s memory, while raising money to assist those in need. This is an event that Mike created years ago in support of the Relay for Life. Since Mike’s passing in 2012, we have carried on the tradition of this event each year. Last year we were able to help 5 local families who had been impacted by cancer and/or other life hardships.
The event will be held on Saturday night, May 6th at 6:00 PM at the St. Peter’s Club (registration starts at 5:00).

A veteran with more than 30 years of experience in the food and wine industry in New England, Wendy is a familiar face to many. The energy and passion she exudes have helped to create lasting relationships, both on and off premise, and with wine makers world-wide.
Although experienced in many areas of the wine industry, Wendy’s greatest satisfaction is introducing “boutique wineries” into our country. They are mostly family owned, making high quality wines and have one thing in common, the striving for excellence, which Wendy has done throughout her career. (R&B Wine Imports)
Tenuto del Melo Gavi, Italy, Varietal: Cortese, Alc.13%
Gavi’s hills have been inhabited since the Neolithic age. It has always been a strategic passage from the sea towards the north. During more recent times, the Gavi area was strongly linked to the Genovese Republic: the city’s aristocratic families chose the scenic hills for their vacation homes. Tenuta del Melo is located in the heart of Gavi’s hills. It is owned by the Rossi Cairo family that for years has promoted a project of sustainable and quality agriculture, with the progressive introduction of organic cultivation methods. The Tenuto del Melo Gavi is straw yellow, with greenish hints. The aroma offers a particularly fine mineral feeling, with notes of honey and candied citron. The mouthfeel is lively and balanced, with a fresh acidity. There are hints of almond on the finish. Excellent as aperitif. Pairs well with hors d’oeuvres, vegetable-first courses, fish, fresh young and medium aged cheese. $ 17.99
Ronchi di Manzano, Pinot Grigio Ramato, Friuli, Italy
Varietal: Pinot Gris, Alc.14%
The Ronchi di Manzano farm has been managed since 1984 by Roberta Borghese, who, together with her daughters Lisa and Nicole, personally takes care of the management of the vineyards, the cellar techniques, and the promotion of their wines. When Roberta took over the company, she immediately imposed a program of total replanting of the older vineyards with the thickening of the vines and the adoption of shorter pruning systems, convinced that a quality wine can only be obtained starting from a great quality of the grapes. Precisely for this reason, in the countryside the plants are cared for using chemical products as little as possible, and the harvest is exclusively manual and in boxes, to damage the grapes as little as possible. Pinot Grigio Ramato is a red onion color, with a dry, fresh, and balanced taste. (When Pinot Grigio grapes are crushed and the skins are allowed to spend time with the juice, a teasing, tactile texture and coppery hue results in a distinct wine style called ramato. It comes from the word ‘rame’ which means ‘copper’ in Italian). It is very fragrant, elegant, and fruity but at the same time full-bodied and powerful. Notes of fruit salad, sage, and almond are present on the nose and palate.
Pairs well with appetizers, vegetarian first courses, fish. $21.99
Casina Adelaide, Barolo, Italy
After a highly successful engineering career, Amabile Droco achieved his lifetime’s ambition when he purchased an old farmhouse and the accompanying vineyards in the heart of the village of Barolo in 1999. He hired a top new winemaking team and constructed an incredible new subterranean winery, which had a predictably positive effect on the quality of the wines produced. What really sets Cascina Adelaide apart, however, is their vineyard holdings and their commitment to demonstrating the diversity of the terroirs within the Barolo DOCG. Cascina Adelaide has been a working winery with its own “Cru” vineyards for over 100 years. They now own top sites in eight out of the 10 Barolo “Crus,” with plans to get to 10 as and when the right sites become available. At this tasting we are featuring two wines from Cascina Adelaide:
commitment to demonstrating the diversity of the terroirs within the Barolo DOCG.
Dolcetto di Diano D’Alba
Varietal: Dolcetto, Alc. 14.5%
Once upon a time Dolcetto was a table wine usually drunk in homes in Piedmont. Today Dolcetto wine has a strong reputation among sommeliers and ardent fans as a red that can be relied on to consistently express that one particular place (Piedmont). The Cascina Adelaide Dolcetto pours an intense violet color. On the nose it has aromas of cherry, red currant, violet, and iris. On the palate, there are hints of menthol and smooth tannins, which give the wine a rich sapidity and an unexpected minerality. Pairs well with salamis and fresh cheeses. $34.99
Barolo Classico 2017
Varietal: Nebbiolo, Alc. 14%
Barolo is a wine produced in the appellation of the same name. It’s located in Northern Italy’s Piedmont region and is required to be made exclusively from the Nebbiolo grape variety. Nebbiolo, of course, is also grown in other countries around the world, but Barolo can only come from the Barolo DOCG (Denominazione d’Origine Controllata e Garantita) and must be produced following a strict set of rules and regulations, most notably that it be composed entirely of Nebbiolo that was grown on hillsides. It is known as the king of wines and the wine of kings. The Cascina Adelaide Barolo Classico is a vineyard blend that pours ruby red. On the nose, wild cherry blends with delicate woody notes. The palate is tannic, with a long finish, leading to bright acidity. Pairs well with red meat, game, truffle-based dishes, and strong cheeses. $64.99
