DRIVEN, the new show at Flatrocks Gallery, focuses on the obsessive aspect of the creative process – the urge to work and rework an idea or an image until its possibilities have been exhausted. In the new works of Jon Sarkin (mixed media), Paul Cary Goldberg (photographs) and Ken Riaf (assemblage) we see three artists responding with grace and wit to a fixation.

Please join us for an artists’ reception on January 19th 6-8pm.

Video- HI-Tech Pain Free Dentistry At Harbor Cove Dental THIS IS MY DENTIST.

Gloucester MA Dentistry Practice.

When was the last time you had fun at your dentist office?

No MUZAK up in this mother.  They’re playing classic hits, the dentist chairs have use controlled heated and massage elements, you don’t have to put that nasty mold in your mouth with the gooey stuff making you want to gag when they take x-rays or making molds, they do their stuff with the latest digital imaging.

The staff is young, hip and friendly.  The décor is straight out of Restoration Hardware.  The place is straight buttah.  Check them out unless you prefer old school dentistry and directly correlate how much pain you have to endure with the level of dental care you receive.

I can’t say enough about Dr Leif and his staff.

Check Out My $1.81 Bottle of Water From Dunkies

*What a tremendous value.

image

image

I suppose I should add that the mistake was mine for not checking to see how much they were charging. If they can get $1.81 for a bottle of water and there are enough people like me who are too stupid to check the price then it’s not their fault, it’s mine.

Steven J Restmeyer Reaches Out On Behalf Of Cape Ann Wild Bird Rescue

Dear Joey,

If you’ve ever found an injured bird on Cape Ann and tried to find a place to bring it, you know Jodi Swenson, the founder of the Cape Ann Wild Bird Rescue Center.http://www.valentine-design.com/Birds/

It sounds like a fancy place but in reality, it’s just her rented home that she shares with the many birds that she rehabilitates. She funds the center mostly with the proceeds she makes from repairing fine china. She is now facing the possibility of losing this rented facility due to foreclosure. People close to Jodi, including me, have decided not to wait and have been circulating an online petition addressing the State Government on all levels. It would be great if Bank Of America came to the rescue. WIth an advertising budget well over a billion dollars per year, BoA can afford to not only GIVE her the title, free and clear, but offer to fund her operation with a supporting grant. If we can offer BoA the press coverage that would warrant such an expense, we believe it would be in their best interest to do just that.

That’s why we are contacting you today. What would live on Cape Ann be like without all the birds that fill the sky with sound and sights of their ever present beauty. Please help us help Jodi help these little feathered friends.

Thank you

Please sign and share this petition. This rescue center is a critical part of Cape Ann and Jodi Swenson has committed her life and personal resources to saving thousands of injured and orphaned birds, one bird at a time. Each bird she saves, multiplies in 5 years to an additional 1,000 birds when factoring their offsprings offspring and taking into consideration that about half would survive. The number of birds that she has helped over the years is staggering. Let’s help her continue helping wildlife on Cape Ann

Here is the link to the petition.

Thank you,

Sawyer Free Library hires first assistant director in more than 5 years

Technology expert hired to help Gloucester’s library stay abreast of 21st-century library trends Freyja Sanger, a librarian and technology expert who helped the Tewksbury Public Library develop its first website for mobile devices, has joined the Sawyer Free Library as its first assistant library director since 2007.

Sanger fills a position left vacant by budget cuts six years ago that led to its decertification by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners. Since then the library has had to repeatedly seek waivers to continue in a program that lets Gloucester residents borrow from other libraries.

Sanger’s hiring is part of the library’s efforts to offer Gloucester residents 21 st-century technology, including access to e-books via tablets, e-readers and mobile phones. Sanger comes to Gloucester from being a reference librarian at the Tewksbury Public Library. She previously worked at the Rockland Memorial Library and Berkshire Athenaeum, the public library in Pittsfield.

As Head Reference Librarian in Tewksbury, Sanger helped develop a mobile website for the library that let library patrons search the library catalog, download e-books and perform other functions from their smartphones and tablets.

“We’re excited about Freyja joining us,” library director Carol Gray said, “both for her technology skills and her ability to help oversee day-to-day operations in what we believe to be the busiest public building in the city aside from the schools.” Nearly 18,000 Gloucester residents hold library cards, and more than 500 people use the Sawyer Free Library on average each day.

Scott Memhard, who succeeded Joan Ciolino this month as president of the library’s board of directors, said Sanger’s hiring was made possible by additional funding in the city budget this fiscal year, initiated by Mayor Carolyn Kirk and enhanced by further action by the City Council.

“These moves bring the library closer to no longer having to seek waivers to gain our state
certification,” Memhard said.

Bird Watchers: Beware Rogue Waves

Db submits-

I found this post on a bird watching site I follow:

Hi,

I was birding in Gloucester yesterday when I encountered a woman at Eastern Point who had been swept off the jetty by a big wave.  She’d made her way back onto the shelf alongside the jetty, and I was able to get her from there to safety, but it’s a useful reminder that many of the places we bird can be dangerous, and this jetty is one of them.  In particular, it’s always a good idea to pay attention to the tides before you venture close to the water, especially in winter.

I’ve never had so much in in a dentist office.  Best part- not having that film stuffed down the back of my throat to take the xrays which always makes you gag.  Everything is digital and hi tech, the latest dentist technology.
