Hi Joey.. My brother Andy McCloy suggested I send this shot to you taken at high tide yesterday . It is the house above Old Garden Beach in Rockport. It sits above a 20 ft seawall. So sad to watch. The owners had just completed renovations.  The house was continually battered wave after wave . I have never seen the ocean pummel this beach the way it did yesterday. I sent it into channel 5 and they used it on the news yesterday … Didn’t get to see it though , Comcast was and is still out!

Storm Update SUNDAY 1505 hrs.

The Mayor has used the Code Red system to alert the residents of Gloucester on the latest clean-up efforts from the major storm that impacted us on Friday and Saturday. To reiterate the main points for everyone

– Gloucester Public Schools are closed tomorrow, Monday, as the efforts to clean-up from this massive storm continue.

– The parking ban is discontinued at 6pm this evening. However, for public safety’s sake, if you don’t have to drive..don’t. Allow us to continue our efforts to restore the City to normalcy as quickly as possible.

– If you have parked your vehicle in a school lot, please remove it by 6am Monday. If you’re in a municipal lot, we won’t be enforcing meters until Tuesday morning at the earliest.

– Main Roads are clear. The DPW is working tirelessly to address ALL roads. Due to the amount of snow and the inherent narrowness of some roadways, special equipment such as front loaders had to be brought in to clear some secondary roads. There are only so many of these machines. This takes time, but rest assured that your road will be cleared. If you have questions you may call the DPW up until 4pm tonight at 978-281-9785. They will also be available during regular business hours during the week.

– It will take a few days in order to address the sidewalks and snow mounds in the downtown and surrounding areas. Again, this was a massive storm and DPW is working as quickly and safely as possible. We are counting on residents cooperation and understanding during this difficult process.

– Rain is expected tomorrow, this may shift priorities temporarily to cleaning catch basins to avoid flooding and freezing of roadways, further hampering efforts to clean up

– Make sure that your fire and carbon monoxide detectors have fresh batteries, are tested, and are working. Clear all outside vents for natural gas, oil, propane, or other gas related heating or energy systems, including appliances such as clothes dryers.

– Keep generators at least 25 feet away from the home to avoid CO and exhaust fumes.

– If there is a fire hydrant at or near your home, don’t forget to shovel a clear path to it. If there is a fire, every second will count.

– While we believe the vast majority of residents have had their power restored, if you are having issues please call National Grid at 1-800-465-1212. If it is an emergency, dial 911.

Speaking on behalf of Mayor Kirk, Public Safety, the School Administration, and DPW, I would like to sincerely thank the citizens of Gloucester for their cooperation during this event. Your continuing cooperation and patience will be of invaluable help in the upcoming days. This is Mayor Carolyn Kirk with some important messages from the City of Gloucester’s code red emergency messaging system. The local state of emergency that was declared on Friday is still in effect, and the city continues to respond to the impacts caused by the recent blizzard. Please listen carefully to the following 6 important announcements: 1. After consultation with public works, public safety and school officials, it has been determined that additional time is required for clean up efforts. Therefore there will be no school tomorrow, Monday in Gloucester Public Schools. The Superintendent of schools will issue an announcement directly to families as well. 2. While main roads are passable, there are many secondary, remote and deadend roads which may require special equipment such as back hoes for snow operations. Special equipment resources are limited and it will take through today and tomorrow to reach some areas. DPW will be taking your calls until 4pm today and tomorrow during normal business hours. The number for DPW is 978-281-9785. That number again is 978-281-9785. 3. It will take the better part of the week to address the downtown area and sidewalks. Priorities will be ensuring safe routes to school, and residents are reminded they are responsible for clearing sidewalks adjacent to their property. 4. The parking ban will be lifted as of 6pm tonight. However, streets are narrow due to the volume of snow, and we are asking residents to keep roads as clear as possible due to ongoing snow operations. Residents are reminded that it is against the law to place snow in city streets. 5. If your vehicle is parked in a school parking lot, please remove it by 6am Monday morning so that the lots may be cleared. If you are in a municipal lot, meters will not be enforced until Tuesday at the earliest. 6. The forecast is calling for rain tomorrow which may divert resources for clearing catch basins to minimize flooding. This will delay snow operations so we ask for your patience. Citizen cooperation during this weather event has been outstanding, and we ask for your continued cooperation and patience in the days ahead as we return to normalcy as quickly and safely as possible. To repeat, Gloucester Public Schools are canceled tomorrow, the parking ban will be lifted as of 6pm today, however mobility and access throughout the city is still restricted so we are asking citizen cooperation and patience as we return to normalcy over the course of the coming week. Storm Update As of 2pm, we expect that the last remnants of snowfall will be leaving us over the next couple hours. We have already seen an abatement in the wind. The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) has closed as of 1pm. The Governor of Massachusetts has left the driving ban in place indicating the toll this storm has taken on resources and the incredible effort it will take to clean up from it. The driving ban will be lifted at 4pm. Until that time, we are urging all residents to still remain indoors and abide by the lawful declaration of the Governor. DO NOT DRIVE. In addition to the added hazard you place on yourself, the burden unnecessary road travel can have on Public Safety and DPW efforts can undermine the efforts to restore the City to normal function safely and quickly. In addition, the Governor has mandated that a criminal penalty may be imposed for those who violate the ban of up to a year in jail and a fine. Please understand that nonessential, nonemergency driving simply stalls our efforts to continue to address the storms aftermath. If you do not have to drive after the ban is lifted at 4pm, please do not. While the penalties and declarations will be removed, efforts will be just getting underway to clean the City up. The more we all cooperate, the quicker we clean up and the less we are all frustrated by what Mother Nature has burdened us with. The tide at 10am was destructive in the sense that it caused significant damage to two houses on Salt Island Road, caused the Police Department to close the backshore, made the footbridge at Good Harbor unstable and possibly loosened it from its pilings, and caused more damage to the Lanes Cove seawall. This is not to mention the incredible amount of debris that was washed up onto Atlantic Road that will need to be addressed. National Grid is out and working and we currently have under 1000 residents out of power. They will continue their efforts until everyone is restored. The DPW continues to work tirelessly to make main and secondary roads safe for travel and to clean up the accumulated snow piles that plowing inevitably creates. Be patient. A storm of this magnitude stresses all resources we have, and the DPW has done and will continue to do and extraordinary job in cleaning the roadways. It takes time and you can expect clean-up efforts to stretch throughout the weekend at the least. Again, I would urge residents to make sure they have working carbon monoxide and smoke detectors, to seek out and clear any exterior venting from indoor gas, oil or other fuel source and to check on and help out their neighbors when they are able to. Lastly, on behalf of Mayor Carolyn Kirk, Fire Chief Eric Smith, DPW Director Michael Hale and myself, we would like to express our gratitude for the cooperation of all Gloucester residents during this crisis. By heeding warnings and emergency instructions, you allowed us to do our jobs to the best of our ability, and minimized the possibility of injury to yourselves and public safety workers. Below is the only official information being issued by the city in regards to the storm. The protocol in these events is to designate an Information Officer so that there is continuity of information that flows to the public. Any other statements you may have received are unofficial and do not represent the City. Below is the City’s official release as of 950am Saturday: Storm Update from DPW:The snow came down so quickly and heavily creating poor visibility that stalled the snow plowing operation. Please be patient, Public Works is aware of the side streets that are impassible and is working very hard to catch up with plowing efforts. Please be aware that it will take the better part of this weekend to get the roads opened up let alone cleaned up. To help speed this process please abide by the driving ban and stay off the roads. Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated and necessary.Storm Update from Point of Information Officer (PIO): The Mayors Office, Police, Fire, Ems and DPW have been working diligently throughout the night to stay on top of this storm. A storm of this magnitude of course creates widespread issues that must be approached slowly and methodically. Overnight, we experienced several power outages which were address by National Grid in a prioritized manner. We also responded to several calls for stranded motorists, despite the Governors ban on driving. At this time, the ban is STILL IN EFFECT. The City parking ban is also STILL IN EFFECT. PLEASE stay indoors and do not drive. Not only is driving at this point putting people in danger, but it is limiting the resources available from public safety to deal with emergencies. We are also urging, at the highest level, that people stay away from the shoreline, especially the backshore, which as of 9am today has been closed until high tide recedes. There is significant splash-over that is spilling large debris in the roadway. The footbridge is likely at risk as well. An area of seawall at Lanes Cove has also been destroyed and significant property damage is being reported on Salt Island Road. As such, I reiterate that the storm is still ongoing, still dangerous, and it is important to stay inside and off the roadways. The storm will continue todayand may worsen in terms of wind and additional snowfall toward the tail end, causing further issues for Public Safety response. DPW will be continuouslyplowing and getting to the streets that are impassable. As I mentioned yesterday, while the snow will abate today, the storm will continue to cause issues well into Sunday and Monday with clean-up efforts. Cooperation from the residents of Gloucester is essential for the quickest and safest possible return to normal operation and driving. The EOC remains in operation until further notice at AddisonGilbert Hospital and will have a representative from each public safety sector to insure we have no interruptions in communicationsand to properly record the storm and our responses for State analysis. If you experience a power outage, call National Grid directly at 800-465-1212. If it is an emergency such as an arcing wire or a tree on wires, please call the Police Department directly and we will attempt to expedite response. Before anyone gets the wrong idea like my boy The Rabbit is some type of lady killer, fear not. In all the years I’ve been hanging out with him I’ve never ever, not once seen him hook up. Except the one girlfriend he had a while back which had the entire gang scratching our heads as to what type of magic potion he must have given her, complete smoke show (on a Rabbit scale).

So where at Mammitas Beach and it’s been a very difficult day with all the reapplying of suntan lotion and lifting of cold beverages (very difficult I tell you). The Rabbit spots this group of Brazilian girls that set up shop about 30 feet away. He then proceeds to tell me that he’s gonna do a photo shoot with them.

Now you have to understand that my boy The Rabbit is the sweetest, nicest do anything loyal to death kind of friend anyone could ever ask for but at the same time there is no one in my life that more utter bullshit drips from their lips than The Rabbit. I mean from morning to night it’s story after story after story about how last week he was shooting Victoria Secret Models or he’s spinning some ridiculous tale about something or other. They are mostly half truths but always harmless stories and I let him go on and on until he gets really wild and then I’ll look at him and call him out on how stupid he sounds and then we laugh hysterically.

That’s just the Rabbit and all our friends know the gig and we all love him because he is a special kind of friend.

So when he says to me that he’s gonna do a photo shoot with these Brazilian girls on the beach it goes in one ear and out the other much like the hundreds of other bullshit stories he had told earlier in the day. Until…
he gets up and saunters over with his phone and plops down his big Rabbit Belly and starts showing them some of his photography from other model shoots hes done flipping through the photos saved on his cell phone. I figure they’re gonna send him packing within a minute or two but then something magical happened.

All three of them were smiling and laughing and completely engaged by the Rabbit’s theatrics and stories. I’m still 30 feet away so I have no idea what type of off the wall stories he’s telling but whatever they are, he’s got them mesmerized.

So knowing I had to capture this for all our other buddies like Syd and DK and Stevie Corbett to see I started to snap photos. So DK, Syd and Corbs, when Rabbit tells you in an email today that he shot some Brazilian girls on Mammitas Beach, this one time he won’t be FOS. Only thing is I guarantee when he tells the story that they will have been Brazilian Supermodels who work for Victoria’s Secret. (Cuz that’s how the Rabbit talks) Like if he happens to talk to a girl one evening she automatically becomes a Victoria’s Secret model the next day when we rehash the night.
