People that refuse to use Google are maddening!

Let me clarify.  I know this topic has come up at least a dozen or so times,  maybe a hundred times on the blog.

Don’t believe me? GOOGLE the phrase: GoodMorningGloucester “Google is your friend”
Actually,  Let me Google the search results for you,  here-

HERE ARE THE SEARCH RESULTS FOR GOODMORNINGGLOUCESTER “Google is your friend”

But it is beyond frustrating when the same people ask you the simplest questions via social media which require more keystrokes to actually type the question than it would to get their answer had they simply typed the subject into Google.

An example of this would be

Where in Hades is Cape Ann Giclee?

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Cape+Ann+Giclee+address

I know I’m not cracking up,  please just for my own sanity,  click on this link to Google-

Link to Google

And type in- Cape Ann Giclee address

You get the address to Cape Ann Giclee,  right?

I’m not the only person in the world for which Google engineers designed the algorithms to give the desired search results am I?

Am I living in some crazy Google MATRIX world where Googling  something only gives the desired results to me and the rest of the world gets exactly the opposite search results of what they were looking for?

FOR THE LOVE OF CHRIST PLEASE FIGURE THIS SHIT OUT PEOPLE! IT’S NOT ROCKET SCIENCE I SWEAR!

‘Healthy Hummus’ –

Hummus has its roots in the Middle East as ‘Hummus bi tahini.’ Hummus typically is made by combining cooked, pureed chickpeas (a legume) with tahini (sesame) paste, olive oil, garlic, salt and pepper. Other legumes (*) can be used in place of chickpeas, such as soybeans, black-eyed peas and black beans. Low-fat yogurt can used instead of sesame paste.

* Legumes – “a class of vegetables that includes beans, peas and lentils — are among the most versatile and nutritious foods available. Legumes are typically low in fat, contain no cholesterol, and are high in folate, potassium, iron and magnesium. Legumes also contain beneficial fats and soluble and insoluble fiber. A good source of protein, legumes can be a healthy substitute for meat, which has more fat and cholesterol.”  (Source: http://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/nutrition-and-healthy-eating/in-depth/legumes/art-20044278?reDate=18042015.)

Hummus is a source of healthy protein, carbohydrate, oil and fiber. **

Well, you know we never rest. So To Make GMG Even More Culturally Useful We’re Working On An Arts Calendar

My man James Eves at Cape Ann Giclee is going to be the Admin and master of operations for our Cape Ann Arts Calendar.

It’s been tried a million times by well intentioned people.  Building websites that will get traction on their own are nearly impossible.  An art Calendar on it’s own may sound like a great idea but to start with zero viewers and build it up to 40-80,000 views a day like GMG has involves an insane amount of work and dedication.  GMG has such a diverse subject matter which is what makes it such a monstrous hub of people’s daily media consumption.  Just Food, or Just Industrial Waterfront or Just Music or Just Butterflies and Flowers or Just Art On their own don’t add up to one one hundredth of the sum of the whole.

So leveraging the insane number of viewers we’re going to offer up the Community Arts Calendar which is being developed as we speak by master design guy James Eves.

So if you have an art event coming up, instead of submitting it to me, you’ll be submitting it to James and he will add it to the calendar.  Instead of the way I handle press releases of this type (as I get them I post them), it’s difficult to go back and see the whole calendar picture of what’s happening when.  This way it will all be laid out for you in an easy to read calender with who, when, what, where.

So if you are a museum, individual artist or gallery, submit your press releases to James and he will get you listed.

Tom Waits Quote of the Week from Greg Bover

Glad to be back from a long installation in Seattle, the QotW resumes:

“Don’t plant your bad days. They grow into weeks. The weeks grow into months. Before you know it, you got yourself a bad year. Take it from me – choke those little bad days. Choke ‘em down to nothing.”

        Tom Waits (1949-    )

        image

A California native, Waits is known for his distinctive gravelly voice and his superb songwriting talents. Although usually categorized as a blues musician, his music extends far beyond that genre into jazz and experimental styles. Many of his ballads have been covered by more famous artists; including Springsteen’s “Jersey Girl” and the Eagles’ “Ol’ 55.” Waits also has a 35 year working relationship with Francis Ford Coppola and has scored nearly twenty films. His unusual looks and massive cool have gotten him parts in dozens of movies, from “One from the Heart” to “The Book of Eli.” Famously anti-consumerist, Waits has successfully sued both Audi and Frito-Lay for using sound-alike musicians to flog their products. He is married to Kathleen Brennan and has three children.

EARTH DAY FAIR Presented by Greenbelt, Essex County’s Land Trust and Community Partners April 26th

        EARTH DAY FAIR

Presented by Greenbelt, Essex County’s Land Trust and Community Partners

Essex, MA —- On Sunday, April 26th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Essex County Greenbelt will be hosting its second annual Earth Day festival in collaboration with numerous community non-profit organizations.  This will be a fun, interactive and informative family-friendly event at Greenbelt’s Cox Reservation headquarters in Essex. The theme of the fair this year will be pollinators. Visitors will learn more about bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, flowers and how pollination is key to a healthy environment.

The event will showcase local non-profit organizations that share a commitment to building an environmentally sustainable community. Jonathan Mirin of the Piti Theater Company will be performing his original show “The Story of My Bees” at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. This 25 minute storytelling event uses puppetry, clowning, dance, music and audience participation to tell Farmer James’ comic, tragic and ultimately hopeful story. The Piti Theater’s shows give children and adults tools for helping pollinators thrive in their communities.

Our community partners will offer hands-on activities for the whole family to learn about butterflies, flowers, bees, beekeeping and pollinators in general. Visitors will get a “passport” to have stamped as they make a bee-line around the fair learning about different aspects of the world of pollination. Those who complete the passport will get a special prize!

Some of the day’s activities and partners include:

•“The Story of My Bees” puppet show at 11:00 am and 1:00 pm

        A. Piatt Andrew Bridge Doors on Display at Cape Ann Museum

        A. Piatt Andrew Bridge Doors on Display at Cape Ann Museum

Free admission for Cape Ann residents on April 18

GLOUCESTER, Mass. (April 10, 2015) – Two of four bronze doors from the granite faced pylons on top of the A. Piatt Andrew Bridge which brings Route 128 over the Annisquam River and into Gloucester are currently on display at the Cape Ann Museum. The doors were removed from the bridge late last year for much need conservation work and this will be the first time in over half a century that the public will be able to view the doors up-close.

Designed by sculptor John F. Paramino (1889-1956), the doors were cast at the T. F. McGann & Sons foundry in Boston in 1950. One honors the bridge’s namesake, A. Piatt Andrew (1873-1936), founder of the American Field Service, a U.S. Congressman from this district, director of the U.S. Mint and a long-time Gloucester resident. The second door celebrates the history of Cape Ann and in particular the fishing industry. John Paramino was born in Boston in 1889 to immigrant parents and studied modeling at the North Bennet Street School. He continued his studies under Augustus Saint-Gaudens and Bela Pratt and by 1916 had his own studio in Boston. Examples of Paramino’s public sculptures are scattered across Boston and include The Founders Memorial (1930) and the World War II Memorial in the Fenway (1947-1948).

Route 128, officially known as the Yankee Division Highway, was built between 1936 and 1958 on its current alignment as a bypass route around Boston. It was the first circumferential highway around a major U.S. city and now incorporates sections of I-93 and I-95. The A. Piatt Andrew Bridge is the crowning achievement of the decades-long Route 128 construction project and serves as a gateway to Cape Ann.

The Cape Ann Museum is pleased to offer Cape Ann residents free admission to the Museum on Saturday, April 18, in order that all may view the doors. In addition, the Museum will offer a narrated walking tour highlighting outdoor public sculptures in downtown Gloucester. The tour will be held on Saturday, May 23 at 10 AM. Tickets are $10 for Museum members and $20 for non-members. Space is limited, reservations are required. Reservations and tickets at (978)283-0455 x10 or info@capeannmuseum.org.

This project is a collaboration between the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, the City of Gloucester and the Gloucester Committee for the Arts, and the Cape Ann Museum.

Mayor Romeo Theken Celebrates Lives Saved via Organ Donation Gloucester Celebrates April as Donate Life Month

731 lives saved in 2014 thanks to organ donation
MA Residents personally touched by donation will share their stories
        image

Gloucester, MA – City Hall – On Tuesday April 21st at 10:30 AM, Mayor Sefatia Romeo Theken and Senator Bruce Tarr will join individuals personally touched by organ donation and the New England Organ Bank, to celebrate organ and tissue donation and announce April as Donate Life Month in Gloucester, encouraging citizens to register as organ and tissue donors.

What: April as Donate Life Month in MA – Lives saved because of organ and tissue donation

        Who:   Mayor Sefatia Romeo Theken
                     Senator Bruce Tarr
Gloucester residents personally touched by organ donation
                    New England Organ Bank

Where: Gloucester City Hall, Kyrouz Auditorium

When:  Tuesday, April 21st at 10:30 AM

In 2014, 731 lives were saved here in New England because of the generosity of individuals who became organ donors.  Thousands more lives were enhanced through the gift of tissue donation.  With the need for life-saving transplants growing every day – over 123,000 patients are now on the US transplant wait list – it is crucial to educate our communities about taking action to register as donors. The celebration commemorates those who have received or continue to wait for lifesaving transplants as well as the families of individuals who chose to be donors.

There are now 110 million registered donors in the United States; still, the number of people in need of transplants continues to rise.  The solution to this problem is to continue educating the public about the lifesaving effects of donation and transplantation and encouraging them to sign up through their state donor registry.  “The state plays an important role in this process as vast majority of individuals in Massachusetts (99%) register to be an organ and tissue donor at the Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV)”, stated Matt Boger of New England Organ Bank.

About New England Organ Bank: New England Organ Bank is the federally-designated, non-profit procurement organization responsible for the surgical recovery of organs and tissues for transplant throughout the New England region.  For more information and to register as a donor visit http://www.DonateLifeNewEngland.org
