An Offer To All #GloucesterMA Election Candidates:
gmglogohires

As you all know we don’t take political stances here or endorse candidates but what I’d like to offer is an invitation for any candidate that is running for office in Gloucester to submit a video explaining why they think they are best suited for the position they are running for. The easiest way to do this would be to upload the video to YouTube.

The videos will be released once and placed on GMG at 7PM on the following night that they are received. If more than one video is submitted to me at goodmorninggloucester@yahoo.com then the first one that is submitted will be aired the following evening at 7PM and the next one submitted will be posted the following evening at 7PM. There will be a link in each candidates post containing their video to goodmorninggloucester@yahoo.com which will have all previously submitted candidate’s videos.

Once they are submitted they will be added to https://2015gloucestermaelection.wordpress.com/ where all the videos will be available for viewing at any time on the same page.

In the title of the video it should list the candidate’s name- position they are running for and the words “GMG submission”.

As always the GMG politics disclaimer- any post on these pages containing a candidate does not imply an endorsement for any candidate. Comments on www.goodmorninggloucester.com for these video submissions on the blog will be turned off for these posts as well.

Hopefully this will serve to help candidates get their message across.

Good luck and thank you to all that participate in the process for the love of Gloucester and making it better.

Leucistic Crow From Arthur Adamson

Hi Joey,

I thought I’d share a couple of pics I got of a crow in my front yard in Rockport.  A rare leucistic  condition that occurs in many different species of animals.  Just the head and tip of the left wing are affected.

Love your page!

FALL BULB SALE

Hi Joe,
This is Dave Asaro’s daughter Kristy,  you had posted my coyote pics on GoodMorningGloucester this winter.  I’m not sure if you had heard but my dad was in a horrible mountain bike accident in Arizona this Saturday.  He fractured his cervical spine and is still in critical care and on a ventilator.  He has some paralysis but we are still in the waiting game to see to what extent.  If you know my dad he is a fighter and won’t stop until he’s back on his bike!  His biking friends have started a fund to help with his extensive medical bills.  If you could post the link to his GoFundMe page that would be a blessing.  Not sure if you can post things like that or not but I figured I’d ask!  He’s had such a outpouring of support already from people around town and I’m just trying to get the word spread as he’s going to have a long road ahead of him.
here is the link!  We are also putting his latest health updates on there!

Thanks again Joe,

GLOUCESTER 18up and Under30: COOK UP SOME GOOD ART THIS SEMESTER and let your hometown buy Thanksgiving Break Pop Up Art Fair

Cat Ryan submits-

Hi Joey

Check out this great idea! Pauline Bresnahan, artist owner Pauline’s Gifts, mom of three (one a 4th generation Gloucester artist herself) had this great idea to help kids with the business side of art.

Save the date pop up art fair for gloucester college

Gloucester College Students

Thanksgiving Break Pop Up Art Fair sale and exhibit

Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on how grateful you are and remember others. We want to thank you by celebrating your art. Home for the holidays- or not- here’s a chance to show what you’ve done and add an exhibit to your CV! Way better than calling your mother. But do that, too.

Where: the HIVE part of Art Haven (established 2008!) amazing arts center is the host venue, 11 Pleasant Street, Gloucester, MA 01930.

When: One day only, Saturday 11/28/15, from 4-8pm, Thanksgiving break weekend

It’s also “Small Business Saturday” – just after Black Friday. Come downtown and support our local shops and young artists. BONUS! 8pm is still early night for young creatives

Who: Gloucester creative collegiates, recent grads, 18 up and under 30

What: Exhibit a sample of your art, any media (sculptor, song writer, musician, poet, jeweler, dancer, graphic designer, ceramicist) Take us from “Hey my kid could do that” to “Hey my kid did that!” and “I want it!” We’ll help figure out the display if you can’t. You are responsible for delivery and take away. Stay in touch for more information.

We’re in the ‘save the date’ early planning stage and hope:

· that you can be there in person to experience the pop up art fair exhibit and celebration, host your ‘booth’, network, and more. If you can’t your art can (and your friends and family at home can drop by. More than turkey for the empty nesters.)

· that you can sell something

· that a digital one page tear sheet for each artist is created

· that you buddy up with one TAG artist

· that a directory is fostered – like an alumni news so you can together share contacts and expertise, friendship,  and that you can build a contact list of people interested in your work

· Did you know that Pauline’s daughter, Kate, David Brooks (founder Art Haven) and Leon Doucette (currently working at Cape Ann Museum) graduated the same year from Gloucester High? What other local news will we learn?

Contact: Email Pauline Bresnahan paulinebresnahan@hotmail.com

if you want to exhibit, if you’re a parent of a college student who may want to hear about it, if you’d like to help, if you’d like to be a sponsor. Three artists have already signed up Kate Bresnahan, James Curcuru and Nicole Dahlmer.

An Icon Of The Gloucester Waterfront Is Retiring After 34 Plus Years- Peter Haskell At Rose’s Marine

There will be an open house at Rose’s to wish Pete well in his retirement Thursday and Friday from 7AM-5PM.
Saying that Rose’s is one of the most integral parts of the Gloucester waterfront and that Pete along with Marty and Frank Rose have been there from the beginning is absolutely without question no exaggeration. Of course Rose’s will continue on just fine when Pete retires but the knowledge base he takes with him is a treasure. I can say from the thirty plus years I’ve walked through those doors, the guys like Rusty, Frank, Frank, Pete and Marty have never once failed to execute and get our business up and running and all with a positive friendly attitude. An icon from the Gloucester waterfront has earned his retirement, best of luck to you Pete, we all wish you the best that life has to offer in retirement!

BUTT FIENDS litter rant and good eggs shout out Dan Leaman Landscaping

image

Cat Ryan submits-

Cigarette butts are right up there as the most common and yucky litter. Gloucester offers a quick ride right into our ocean waters. We were required to clean our sidewalk daily in front of our business or be fined.  Some smokers would flick one right in the midst of our dustpan and broom without missing a step.

Smoker trash is just an unfailing source of __________. You fill in the blank. There’s a big blind spot.

Business owners, employees, property owners, tenants: a lot of what we pick up downtown are piles of the same cigarette brand. Case in point:

Award for BUTT FIEND on Parsons goes to a proud Parliament smoker. Residents including kids are out here with gloves picking up your butts. We’re not talking the random passerby flick. We’re talking regular and routine breaks where you just sit there dropping.

Big shout out to Dan Leaman and Mike Carter today with Dan Leaman Landscaping. Thank you for coming back again to help with Parsons Street.

In life, look for the helpers. Donna Ardizzoni, Patty Amaral, and many volunteers  –See Donna’s post for this Saturday’s clean up
