Rebecca Borden Ward 1 2015 Gloucester Ma Election Video

To View Other Candidate submissions- https://2015gloucestermaelection.wordpress.com/

gmglogohires

As you all know we don’t take political stances here or endorse candidates but what I’d like to offer is an invitation for any candidate that is running for office in Gloucester to submit a video explaining why they think they are best suited for the position they are running for. The easiest way to do this would be to upload the video to YouTube.

The videos will be released once and placed on GMG at 7PM on the following night that they are received. If more than one video is submitted to me at goodmorninggloucester@yahoo.com then the first one that is submitted will be aired the following evening at 7PM and the next one submitted will be posted the following evening at 7PM. There will be a link in each candidates post containing their video to https://2015gloucestermaelection.wordpress.com/ which will have all previously submitted candidate’s videos.

Once they are submitted they will be added to https://2015gloucestermaelection.wordpress.com/ where all the videos will be available for viewing at any time on the same page.

In the title of the video it should list the candidate’s name- position they are running for and the words “GMG submission”.

If a candidate is not able to create a video to submit, then that speaks in my opinion to their qualifications to hold a position at this level of City Government. If a candidate doesn’t read GMG or doesn’t get the word about this opportunity then that also speaks to their qualifications to hold a position at this level of City Government knowing the reach GMG has.

As always the GMG politics disclaimer- any post on these pages containing a candidate does not imply an endorsement for any candidate. Comments on www.goodmorninggloucester.com for these video submissions on the blog will be turned off for these posts as well.

Hopefully this will serve to help candidates get their message across.

Good luck and thank you to all that participate in the process for the love of Gloucester and making it better.

Ron Gilson Tells Fish Tales Aboard Adventure

Dear Joey,

Here’s a link to a video shot by Henry Ferrini at the most recent Fish Tales, the Gloucester Writers’ Center story telling event. Our pal Ron Gilson, the last living person to have fished aboard Adventure, told his story to about a hundred listeners on deck and on Webster Pier at Maritime Gloucester. We had nine other story tellers and their stories will be available at http://www.gloucesterwriters.org.

Thanks,

Greg Bover

Students Set Sail Aboard SCHOONER ROSEWAY for Southern Waters

World Ocean School, in partnership with Proctor Academy, will depart Gloucester on Thursday with twenty-one students bound for nine-weeks of education at sea.

image

It’s year number two of a partnership between New Hampshire’s Proctor Academy Ocean Classroom and the Boston-based World Ocean School. On Thursday, after schooner Roseway will board twenty-one high school students at Maritime Gloucester to begin a nine-week expedition culminating in San Juan, Puerto Rico late November.

Juniors and seniors from Proctor will step aboard Roseway prepared for a fall semester of nautical history, maritime literature, marine sciences and navigational mathematics all underway. Along the journey down the eastern seaboard and into the Caribbean, Roseway will make port stops where students will engage in community service projects. Students will practice “ship, shipmate, self” as they face and overcome numerous challenges.

Not only does the revenue from this partnership fuel World Ocean School programs for underserved populations throughout the rest of the year, but it connects Roseway with a school that is renowned for its commitment to experiential education for students of all backgrounds, fostering a collaborative and productive community.

“As a mission-driven organization that believes strongly in effective community-building, we are thrilled to be working with Proctor”, says Abby Kidder, President of the World Ocean School. “We have a lot to learn from them and at the same time, a lot to share from our own experience with education at sea.”

To follow the students’ experiences at sea, keep an eye on Roseway’s Ship’s Log atwww.WorldOceanSchool.org.

Thank you!

So it pained me to watch this video of these people who nursed this bird back to health, release it to return to it nature only to watch it fly smack into a building and die.

September 18 Meeting of the Gloucester Area Astronomy Club

blogpic_orig

The September GAAC meeting will be this week, on the 18th, not the second Friday as is usual. In October we will be returning to our regular meeting schedule.

In the sort of colorful and engrossing presentation we’ve come to expect from Gary Meehan, at our September 18 GAAC meeting Gary will discuss his ongoing efforts to image the solar system. He will explain the equipment he uses in some detail, and will run through some of the issues that need to be considered in order to obtain the best results.

Gary’s presentation is, of course, loaded with images, especially his new pictures of the Sun, Moon, and Jupiter. And those of you who want to give it a try are in luck: in addition to leading us on a tour through his recent astrophotos, Gary will also demonstrate the series of procedures that he uses to convert video data into a final image product.

And there’s more! At this meeting we’ll be celebrating what looks to be the upcoming decision to replace Gloucester’s streetlights with lower color temperature 3000k astronomy-friendly LED’s, and we’ll be thanking the principles involved in advocating for this decision. There will be cake.

The Gloucester Area Astronomy Club meets on the second Friday of the month (usually), at the Lanesville Community Center, 8 Vulcan Street in Lanesville. Everything is always free. For more info, see http://gaac.us, and see our Facebook page at http://facebook.com/gaacpage. You can follow GAAC on twitter, @gaacster.

    (Friday Sept. 18th 4-6pm)

    Hi Everyone,

I wanted to reach out to let you know that Cape Ann Art Haven is hosting an info session about fall programs tomorrow at Art Haven. We’d love for you to stop by and get info about how to connect kids who will benefit from the programs we offer.

Our focus has always been and always will be to serve the underserved and reach kids who don’t have an outlet to express themselves. We’ve got an awesome team of staff and volunteers who are great mentors for the students and create a fun and creative environment for the students at Art Haven.

This is also a great chance for you to meet Laura Donworth who is doing a fantastic job coordinating the space and programs at Art Haven. You can also meet check out the new Sound Harbor space that runs a variety of music programs and will be doing demonstrations and tours of their space at the kick off on Friday.

All are invited to join and there will be Fro Yo from Orange Leaf and plenty of opportunity for the kids to get their hands messy in some clay.

Thanks for all of your continued support!

    Best,
