WWII Vets Portrait Project From Jason Grow

We’re getting very very close to both our goal and the exhibition date of November 7th! Moving forward with the printing and framing in anticipation of raising the final funds to get everything ready by the opening.

Please consider a donation – any amount helps! https://www.gofundme.com/ww2vetsportraits
The show is planned to open Saturday November 7th with a reception from 1-4p at the Kyrouz Auditorium in Gloucester’s City Hall – 9 Dale Avenue, Gloucester MA. There is an elevator.
Please share the announcement around… We’re inviting all the vets who’ve participated hoping that they’ll all come so it would be terrific to have a goodly crowd to receive them.

October Meeting of the Gloucester Area Astronomy Club

image

The Gloucester Area Astronomy Club registered the domain name gaac.us on October 13 2003, which makes the Friday October 9 meeting our twelfth anniversary! Come on in and help us celebrate, along with some of our accomplished stable of astrophotographers as they each show off examples of their most recent work, including some shots they’ve been saving for just this occasion.

We’ll see a bunch of terrific pictures, and hear the how’s and why’s as well, as each photographer explains each image, its significance, and some details of the hunt that produced it.

This will be a colorful, entertaining and elucidating night of astrophotography, science, friends, coffee and cake, and of course lots of great conversation to boot. Don’t miss it!

GAAC meets at 8:00 on the second Friday of every month at the Lanesville Community Center, 8 Vulcan Street Gloucester. There is no cost, and parking is free. For more info on the club, see our website at http://gaac.us, or our Facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/gaacpage, or follow us on Twitter @gaacster. All are welcome, and no prior knowledge of astronomy is needed to have a great time.

Tuesday. October 6th. ‘Community Reiki Share’ in Manchester-by-the-Sea.

Join us in Supporting the Kangemi Charity and Children of Nairobi, Kenya. Having just returned from a sabbatical in Africa, it seems appropriate that this month’s Reiki Share is donating proceeds to an African charity.  All are welcomed to attend to enjoy a Reiki Session while supporting this worthy cause!

This month’s choice of charities was inspired by Advanced Western and Japanese Reiki Practitioner (Komyo Okuden/3rd Degree) and FOB Suzanne Sweeney, owner of Energize Body and Mind here in Gloucester. Suzanne’s mother-in-law Prafulla Ganatraa, coordinates the Kangemi Charity in Kenya, helping to feed, clothe and educate children in an impoverished area of Nairobi.

On Retreat – Quiet Reflection and Helpful Healing

Optimal Wellness for Body, Mind and Spirit Promoting Optimal Wellness for Body, Mind and Spirit

Definition of ‘Retreat’ –
  • a quiet or secluded place in which one can rest and relax.
  • a period of seclusion for the purposes of prayer and meditation.
In this fast-paced, busy culture where can you find ‘sanctuary?’
Where can you escape to for healing the mind, body, and spirit?
With its many beautiful beaches, rocky outcroppings and gardens with oceans views, and wooded pathways to choose from almost any spot on Cape Ann will generally do! But on the special occasion of the August 15th/150th Anniversary of the birth of USUI Sensei, (founder of the Japanese Healing Method/Art of Reiki Ryoho,) I chose to drive 5 hours to an isolated monastery in the Catskill Mountains.

Dai Bosatsu Zendo Kongo-ji (DBZ,) is a Zen Buddhist (Rinzai) monastery and retreat center located on 1,400 acres in a deciduous forest region of the Catskills in upstate New York. While Reiki…

Thank you to the Gloucester Housing Authority for partnering with us on this project.

It pays to listen to The GloucesterCast

Joey–I was pleased (thrilled actually) to learn today that the photo I submitted to the Gloucester Rotary Calendar project was selected!  I learned about the contest through GMG and was encouraged to send a photo along even though I am daily humbled by the photographic geniuses you have on hand.

I had just submitted the photo when I listened to podcast 147 where you mentioned a fall scene would probably have a good chance of being selected.  Mine is “Fall Reflection at Halibut Point”, so I guess you were right again!

So, thanks for the encouragement and we hope to stop by the dock next week for my husband Jim’s shirt.  I think we are arriving just in time for a storm.  Thanks again.  Pat D

I’m just going to back away slowly…

Submitted by Terry Weber
This little crab was on Good Harbor Beach with seagulls circling ‘round and one just starting to peck him. He was moving slowly. I put him in shallow water under a rock ledge. Don’t know if that saved the little guy, but it didn’t seem right to stand by and watch him slowly get pecked to death. May he live a long life, or at least a longer one!
