October is breast cancer awareness month and this week is Male Breast Cancer Awareness Week. While more rare than in women (< 1% of breast cancer according to the national cancer institute,) breast cancer in men is often further along when diagnosed due to less routine screening or awareness of risks. Knowledge is Power – Increased awareness leads to early detection and increased survival.

Couples with Breast Cancer  Husband and wives faced with breast cancer, and their inspiring stories – Meg and Gerard Campion and Kara and Mike Selsman. Kara’s breast cancer was caught at an early stage due to routine screening. By the time Mike’s breast cancer was diagnosed, it was more advanced with metastasis to the lungs and bones. Cape Ann Power Yoga is now open in Brown’s Mall in Downtown Gloucester. We teach Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga in a clean and heated (90-95 degrees) room with a view to the sky and out to the harbor. When you come to class you can expect to breathe, move, sweat, work, stretch, and let go of things that you have been holding on to. You can expect to be challenged – and that means that you’re getting stronger and actually improving yourself, not just thinking or talking about it. You’ll be practicing next to construction workers, secretaries, veterans, yoga teachers, mountain bikers, surfers, runners, weightlifters, teenagers, octogenarians, and a guy named Dirt.

The Rockport PTO is looking for crafters to sell their wares at the holiday fair scheduled for Saturday, November 14th.  We get a large amount of people attending from Rockport and neighboring towns who come with their families to participate in the activities and do some of their Christmas shopping so it is a great opportunity to showcase and sell your amazing creations.  The cost is $50 per table, no no raffles, bake sales or used items.

Maritime Gloucester has once again partnered with Boatwise to offer a series of Captain’s Courses and Safe Boating Basics and Navigation Classes. All courses and classes will take place in Maritime Gloucester’s Robbins Classroom. Descriptions, dates and tuition are listed below.
