Dave says,
We’re having too much fun this summer,so, let’s make it even better. Please welcome back Gloucester’s own Godfather of punque, Mr, Willie Alexander. Just indited into the Gloucester Rock and Roll Museum, right next to Sylvester Ahola and Joe Pal, Willie’s sure to get tour fluids movin’. That is, if he can find the place. I’m gonna help him out.

Blazing his saddles will be that cosmic gas-giant, Mr. Billy Loosigian , who’s been in more fabulous Boston Bands than you can imagine. Presently in Willie’s band, this guy plays like he has four hands and 24 fingers.
Rounding out the heavy lifting will be our favorite tonsorially-challenged drumambulist, Mr. Steevie Chaggaris ,keeper of the flame and general mucky muck. A great nite! We hit at 8:30 and play till exhaustion. Somebody help me!

Innervisions has been playing Castle Hill in Ipswich the last few years but the crowds became too large for them to handle so we’re hosting them over two nights at Cape Ann Marina Mile Marker One. Friday August 16th and Saturday August 17th On Friday the 16th we have an Opening act from Newburyport called Freevolt.
Doors are at 7pm. 15$ at the door. Cape Ann Marina 77 Essex Ave. Gloucester Ma Mile Marker One 978 283-2122
We also have Free Shows on our Bridge Deck All weekend with Jah N I on Friday 8/16 and The Glostafarians on Saturday 8/17 plus The Runaround Sunday 8/18 at 5pm.
1. When was Inner Visions formed? The band is dated back to when Phillip “Grasshopper” Pickering returned from the military in 1979 and joined “Prophecy” Reggae Band. Over the years the band saw a name change and has continued on since that time as Inner Visions.
2. What is the history of the band? Inner Visions has been the around since the golden days of reggae when the likes of Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Dennis Brown, Toots and the Maytals, Peter Tosh, Third World, Steel Pulse, Inner Circle, Aswad and so many other foundation Artists presented the world with a music that would not be denied. Because the Virgin Islands dominant music art form was Calypso and now is Soca music, (and the fact that St. John was so far removed from the limelight), it was not until 1995 that the band started getting some recognition when we released our first official recording. Since then the music has taken us through the Caribbean, to Cancun Mexico, Europe and all over the USA. We now boast six self produced recordings to our credit.
3. Who are the current members of the group? Current members are Alvin “Jupiter” Pickering (Bass/Background Vocals), Phillip “Grasshopper” Pickering (Guitars/Percussions/Lead Vocals), Akiba “Mr. Snooze” Pickering (Keyboards/ Lead and Background Vocals), and Aswad “Hollywood” aka “Black Lion” (Drums). Just incase you are wondering about those Pickering last names, “Jupiter” and “Grasshopper” are brothers and “Mr. Snooze” and “Black Lion” are the son’s of “Grasshopper!”
4. Who are your Musical influences? Wow, there are so many to mention! I think the group Culture for the energy, Third World for the message of love, Aswad for the party style grooves, Steel Pulse for the consciousness, Bob Marley for the universal strength, and many, many more!
5. What keeps you coming back to New England? The awesome love we feel from our fans many of which we have had the opportunity to greet on our Island home long before performing stateside.
6. What is your connection to Gloucester? Joe Loiacano (Manager at Mile Marker 1) had known of us as he had lived and managed a venue on St. John a few years back. We had played Gloucester before at the Rhumb Line, but after hearing about the crowds we were packing in at the Castle on Crane Beach’s Summer Concert Series, he decided to have us. It was such a great success last year, he up-scaled it for this year’s performance.
7. What is Island life like on St. John? It is a rewarding way of life as one might expect but the drawback is it is very expensive to live there. We boast some of the most beautiful beaches in the world and some of the most wonderful people but like everywhere these days things are tough all around. Still we would not trade it for the whole wide world!
Legendary…a blues/rock institution…true innovators. These are just a few of the ways Savoy Brown has been described over the past 40 years by music critics and fans. One of the earliest of British blues bands, Savoy Brown, with founder guitarist Kim Simmonds at the helm, helped launch the 1967 UK blues boom movement that brought blues music back to the USA invigorating the style forever. In the process, the band became part of the framework that launched the rock and roll music of the 1970’s. Their influence now stretches into modern rock as we know it today. From London’s Soho night clubs in 1966 to headlining the world’s most famous venues (Carnegie Hall, Fillmore’s East, and West, Cobo Hall, etc.), Savoy Brown has done it all and as the band continues to tour worldwide they give a glimpse into the past and also inspire new listeners with their personal brand of rocking boogie, blues, and rock.
The band will play a special ‘bare essentials’ unplugged show, tailored for the intimate setting of the Shalin Liu Performance Center. For any Savoy Brown fan, this is a unique opportunity to see a one of a kind show with special material!

Dave says,
It’s time to give me your huddled masses and exotic diseases and await the haloed return of Mr. Dennis Brennan, ubermensch of the blues. Quickly becoming everybody’s favorite flavor, he sure knows how to get your blood moving..And he’s bringing that fleet-fingered six-shooter string glitar master, Mr. Matt “Dillon” Stubbs with him. Lotta maiming goin’ on. Gonna keep Doc Pomus busy all nite! Worse, the atomic clock. Mr. Dave Mattacks is short fused for the nite, so, get ready for for an all-out frontal assault. Be there or be square.
As the grapevine was strangling me, it’s become apparent that the place to be Tuesday nite is at the Doggy Bar. Rheumer has it that The Funda- mentals* are ripe for seed pod explosion and are waiting to spray you with their own brand of cosmic debris. I’ll be there with a whisk broom. You should go.
Also, buy yourselph a folding chair and limp on down to Stage Fork Parque this Saturday. Sit down and don’t get up till it’s over. The 2nd annual Glou. Blooze Fest, that is. 11to 7, still gives you time to wipe yourself off and go bar hopping later. I’ll see you there.
And here’s some more goodies for you this month. It’s the best batch yet:
Aug. 15 Willie Alexander and some boom booms. Boomba boom!
Aug.22 Lydia Warren and Chris “Stovepipe” Brown. Breathing optional.
Aug.29 “Flash” Gordon Beadle and the north shore aliens. Medic!
Sept.5 Michelle Willson and John Hyde
Sept.12 Ricky “King” Russell, Edd Scheer and Mario Perrett. The three stooges! Spread out!
Sept.19 Lisa Marie with Keith Lockhart, June’s brother and his pet drummer Gym.
Sept.26 Chris”Stovetop” Brown with his pet air bulb anklysaurus
And, again, thank you for your continued support. Without you Fred could only afford Creme Brûlée once a week.

The sounds of Hawaii and Cape Ann come together for just one night as Grammy Award winner and native Hawaiian John Cruz travels east to join Cape Ann singer/songwriter Brian Alex for one night of stories and songs at the Manchester, MA Community Center on August 16th.
John Cruz is the Grammy and Hoku Award winning artist behind such songs as “Island Style” and “Shine On” and was described by top selling recording artist, Jack Johnson as “one of my favorite songwriters in the world.” Brian Alex, the popular lead singer, guitarist and chief songwriter for the Boston Music Awards winning band Entrain. Brian is working on songs for his first solo project and is looking forward to debuting more of them in August.
This special one-time pairing follows Brian’s very successful “Stories and Songs” acoustic concert at this same venue in May. That show went over so well for both audience and artist that Brian decided to do something “extra special” for summer 2013 in Manchester and John was happy to team up and add a set of his own to the night.
For the evening, expect Brian to feature songs from his forthcoming CD, “Destination Unwind” along with other fan favorites. With song titles like “Sitting Here in Paradise” and “Destination Unwind,” expect feel good summertime tunes and the tales behind them. John is working on a new and as yet untitled CD as well so expect John to feature new music well as songs from his two Hoku Award winning CD’s “Acoustic Soul” and “One of These Days.” Showtime is 8:00PM with doors at 7:30PM and tickets are available at BrownPaperTickets.com.
More on John Cruz:
John Cruz grew up in Palolo Valley on Oahu but his ties to the Northeast were formulated in 1983 when he moved east to attend the University of Amherst. It was during this time on the East Coast that he developed his own style as a songwriter playing clubs between New York, Boston and Martha’s Vineyard where he even played in an early incarnation of Entrain.
John returned to Hawaii in 1995 and came to fame in 1996 when he released his first album, Acoustic Soul. That CD spawned the radio hits “Shine On,” “Sitting in Limbo” and “Island Style,” which has become a local anthem known around the world. John won two Na Hoku Hanohano Awards in 1997; one for Contemporary Album of the Year and one for Most Promising Artist. Then, in 2005, John added a Grammy Award to his list of honors when his original song “Jo Bo’s Night” was featured on the compilation CD Slack Key Guitar Volume 2, which won the first Grammy ever awarded for Hawaiian music.
John’s second album, One of These Days was released in 2007 and the Hawaii Academy of Recording Arts gave the CD its highest honor in 2008 by awarding John the Na Hoku Hanohano Award for Contemporary Album of the Year and just last year Honolulu Magazine named the album one of the “Top 25 Greatest Hawaii Albums of the New Century.”
More on Brian Alex:
From the Northeast to Key West, BrianAlex is known as the energetic lead singer, guitarist and primary songwriter for the Boston Music Award winning band Entrain. Brian’s quirky personality and unique pop-savvy style has been a significant and colorful piece of the World-Pop act Entrain, since 1995. Brian’s latest Entrain compositions “Lucky Just to Be Alive” and “Reason to Feel Good” can be heard on 92.5 The River, Martha’s Vineyard’s acclaimed WMVY and regularly on Kenny Chesney’s “No Shoes Radio”.
With a desire to record and release some of his own feel good summer songs, Brian launched a PledgeMusic.com campaign to fund the recording of his first solo project “Destination Unwind” and he will be featuring songs from that CD at select solo acoustic shows this summer.
In addition to his work with Entrain, Brian, has recorded with the Missing Persons, Donna Summer and Paula Cole and shared the stage with artists such as Bo Diddley, Bob Weir, President Bill Clinton and Edwin McCain.

It was a real treat to be able to sit in on these recordings. Memory Layne and Joe Thomas are such pillars in the “music” community. They bring in talent from all around and have shows such as The SingerSongWriter Series (a total of three so far) where T Max of the Noise Magazine was even host for a whole series and performed during them and in other series as well. They will be bringing the series back soon so keep on the look out if you are interested in attending. There is music Wednesday through Sunday. They have a grand piano bar right in the middle of Ristorante that people gather around and have sing a longs. Sometimes the guest from around the dining room end up joining in. On many occasions Giuseppe’s has hosted fundraisers for various projects giving a certain percent of the evening’s total. It is an honor to know Joe and Memory.
Alexandra Valenti is somewhat new to the Gloucester/Cape Ann Music scene. I got to see her first at one of Giuseppe’s SingerSongWriter Series a few months ago and she blew the audience away. She has also performed at The Crowell Chapel in Manchester.
During her recording at The Local Music Seen with Allen Estes she was so sincere, personable and most of all adorable. Needless to say her performance and lyrics won our hearts. One song she did even moved some to tears. She will be at the Manchester Festival By The Sea tomorrow from 3:00pm to 3:45pm along with many other fine musicians through out the day.
Here’s a link from Vickie and Peter that tells more about Alexandra.

Dave says,
Greetings, comrades! And welcome to the People’s Blues Bash. This week we have that proletariat ping pong genius, Mr. Comrade Greg Luttrell. A long time supporter of the blues struggle, Com. GL has been given special dispensation to perform for the huddled masses here in the U.S.A. ,warding off uncontrollable opinions, and parlaying his great love for the Supreme Leader into a keening paroxysm of love. Catch him while you can. He is a regular at the Great Leap Forward Bar and Grill in Lohng Dhong, China for six months of the year. Now, We got him. His parole is almost up. It’s not often we get a political prisoner of the blues. He’s due to return to China in Sept., so ,girls, better put on that self-blinding eye shadow and ruby red laser lipstick and try to control your breathing!
But seriously, folks, Greg L. is a monster guitarist and vocalist and always gets everybody going into a big spin. Poor Andrew Jones…our drummer….hasn’t got a clue what he’s in for. I’m bringing smelling salts…
And don’t forget the 2nd Annual Glou. Blues Festival this Aug.10. No, I’m not playing, but I’ll be there drooling into my coozie. Please go!
