Hello!  My name is Lilly!  I am a sweet, cuddly and playful three-month-old female Lab/Retriever/Chow Newfoundland mix. My siblings and I are at the Cape Ann Animal Aid, located at the Christopher Cutler Rich Animal Shelter, Four Paws Lane, Gloucester. We have beautiful silky and wavy black coats.  We love to play and we are all very eager to be adopted.  Please stop by and visit us.  We love meeting new people.   I can’t believe my photo is on Good Morning Gloucester – this is my favorite blog – I must! be famous now!

I love it when the nice volunteer takes me outside to swim in the kiddy pool, then I get to play in play yard and run, then we play ball and then I need a nap and I think the nice volunteer needs one more than I do!   Check our website at: CapeAnnAnimalAid.com to learn more about our upcoming events.  We also have a “wish list” of items we need such as large trash bags, paper towels, bleach, etc.  It is ok to bring toys over for shelter cats and dogs…I will greet you with open paws!!

Oink Oink Piggies

This is just a small portion of trash I found on the beach tonight. Don’t worry I picked it up for the piggies.

Do we need to charge more to get into the beach? Or make people show a bag of trash before they can leave?

This can’t be Gloucester peeps, can it?!

It’s embarrassing that its left this way.

The Gloucester Dog Park at Stage Fort Park opened officially on Saturday. Many 2 legged and 4 legged friends came out to play in the park for the first time. I was surprised by how many people came out.

Congrats to the Friends of the Gloucester Dog Park for making it a huge success!

The Dog park has three sections, one for Large dogs, one for smaller dogs, and another for dogs who may not be completely ready to romp with their friends. At the entrance to each play area are park rules. Make sure you and your dog(s) follow those rules for everyone’s safety. You can read them HERE.

It was nice to see the dogs chasing each other, playing with their humans and relaxing in the sun. I would say it’s dog approved!

Pet of the Week-Winter

Winter

Hello, my name is Winter, I am staying at the Cape Ann Animal Aid in Gloucester until I am adopted.

They believe I was once someone’s pet because I am such a sweet and affectionate boy.  I have a handsome white-and-black coat. I love attention and I am so excited about finding a family who will love me as much as the Cape Ann Animal Aid family does. The shelter is located at the Christopher Cutler Rich Animal Shelter, Four Paws Lane in Gloucester.  Please stop by and visit me. I think they named me winter because my coat is nice and white and I keep it spotless.  I deserve a loving home, so I am hoping that when I am spotted on Good Morning Gloucester someone will realize they need a nice cat and adopt me – I am ready if you are!

BSL Awareness Walk This Sunday at 11am

Walk with BSL Awareness Walks in Gloucester on Sunday, May 19th at 11am. They will start at Stage Fort Park, walking down the promenade and up Main Street and back down via Rogers. The walk will take up to two hours and they will congregate at the end to talk and say hello to one another and our pups! All responsible owners of any and all breeds are welcome to join the walk.

Gloucester Bully walk

Nancy Julian,  the coordinator of BSL Awareness Walks, reached out to me to let me know about the event in Gloucester this weekend.

pumpkin fairy frankie

(Nancy’s Dog, Frankie)

“BSL is made up of responsible bully breed owners and our well-behaved dogs challenging stereotypes one step at a time; changing minds one walk at a time.”

They walk in towns and cities of Massachusetts and surrounding states that ban or banned ‘pit bulls’ or have or had BSL.  So far they have walked in 7 towns in Massachusetts and one town in Rhode Island. BSL is breed specific legislation – laws which are targeted towards all dangerous dogs (supposedly), but ‘pit bulls’ primarily. Nancy started the walks in January in response to Mayor Menino and Councilman Consalvo wanting to repeal the new Animal Control law that came into effect on October 31, 2013. This law prohibits BSL in Massachusetts.

Here are two links for the BSL and the Facebook Event Page:

I love pit bulls and they definitely get an unfair rap. The pit bulls I have know have been the most loving dogs and great with kids. I don’t know why we are still dealing with these stereotypes. 100 years ago they were known as “Nanny dogs” because they were so loyal, kind and great with children.

A good example of their demeanor is something I witnessed a month ago in Boston. I was walking down Newbury Street and I noticed two pit bulls, well behaved on leash, get snipped at by two little toy dogs. The pit bulls did nothing, they ignored the tiny dogs as they continued to snap at them. We have to remember that it’s not just the dog breed that factors into a dog’s behavior, but also how they are raised and trained.

I hope you can come out to the walk and meet these amazing dogs.

Pet of the Week-Molly

pet of the week, molly, dog

Hello!  My name is Molly, I am a two-month-old Retriever/Shepherd mix.   I am staying at the Cape Ann Animal Aid (CAAA) located at the Christopher Cutler Rich Animal Shelter in Gloucester.   I am a sweet and affectionate girl, I love people, other pups and love to have fun.  My siblings are here with me too.  I know that having a pup has it’s challenges, but once I am through the “puppy stage” there will be many rewards.

Save June 8 at 3 p.m. at Stage Fort Park for the Rescue Reunion!   This will be a free, family-friendly event to celebrate the adoption of your dog(s) and provide a space to reunite with the staff and volunteers at the CAAA. Whether your dog was rescued locally in MA, Puerto Rico, Georgia, Alabama or another southern state, you will be able to find out more about your pup’s background, rescue situation and/or meet litter-mates!

As you can see, I love having fun and I think the next thing I want to try is to skateboarding!

Pet of the Week-Fatima

Fatima

My name is Fatima, my sister and I are at the Cape Ann Animal Aid (CAAA) located at the Christopher Cutler Rich Animal Shelter,  Four Paws Lane, Gloucester.  We are friendly and outgoing pups and very eager to find families to adopt us.  We are affectionate and active three-month-old pups who are Fox Terrier/Beagle mix with tan-and-white coats.  We will be small to medium when we are all grown.

Everyone is grateful for all the friends who walked at Pride Stride.  Also, something else I keep hearing about being grateful for is Cindy Oliver.  Cindy is retiring after nearly 20 years of dedicated service to the CAAA.  Everyone is going to miss her.  Member of the public, volunteers and friends are invited to stop by and say farewell to Cindy and enjoy some refreshments on Sat., May 4 between   11 a.m. – 3 p.m. right here at the shelter.  We love refreshments, but we all love Cindy more!

Pet of the Week- Labrador

Hello! My name is Labrador and I bet you were expecting a dog! I don’t bark, swim or go jogging – but I love to lounge and play. I am a mellow two-year-old black-and-white male cat. I am residing at the Cape Ann Animal located at the Christopher Cutler Rich Animal Shelter in Gloucester. Check our website at: CapeAnnAnimalAid.com
There are lots of sunny spots for me to nap and the staff and volunteers are wonderful to me. Remember, when you stop by the shelter to adopt me, ask for Labrador the cat. I am not certain why, but someone asked if I am tuxedo cat? Do humans really think that we cats would wear a tuxedo? I don’t even like wearing a collar!
