Protest vs. Riot

Pro·test

Noun:

Statement or action expressing disapproval of or objection to something.

Verb:

1.express an objection to what someone has said or done.

2.declare (something) firmly and emphatically in the face of stated or implied doubt or in response to an accusation.

Ri·ot

Noun:

1.violent disturbance of the peace by a crowd.

Verb:

Take part in a violent public disturbance.

There is absolutely no reason people should riot, for any reason, Period. Maybe they are confused with what protest really means. Do you see the word “violent” in the definition of protest? People need to learn to control their anger and direct it towards making a change. If you are not a part of the solution then you are a part of the problem.

What’s the magic age to….

What’s the age in which you let your oldest babysit the younger sibling(s)? Is there a magic number? I am going to go with maturity and behavior of younger siblings.

Does it depend on how many kids? I have 2 kids 4 years apart, one boy one girl. I let my oldest stay home with the youngest probably at 11 years old. Then there’s your families with 3 and 4 kids. What if they are well behaved children in general? Can’t the 11 year old watch the 8,6 and 4 year old?

Oh and to clarify I am talking about a span of 1 to 2 hours, not all day.

Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

spoiler_alert

Can we talk about what exactly a “Spoiler Alert” is? Seriously!

When a show airs in real time, when it is over, it is to be discussed. BUT NOOOO instead i’m blamed for a SPOILER ALERT! How can it be spoiled if it already aired? Was i supposed to put a big sign that says:

“Spoiler alert: if you didn’t watch Grey’s Anatomy don’t read further, i’m about to talk about McDreamy dying!”

If you are gong to DVR the show that you know is going to be very suspenseful

DO NOT GO ON FACEBOOK OR TWITTER UNTIL YOU HAVE WATCHED IT!

Seriously, is it just me?

Need a man’s opinion……….

For all you guys out there:

What is the age in which you DO NOT wear your baseball cap backwards?

I’m going to go with the answer of: when is doesn’t look ridiculous??

There are some guys that can pull it off in their 30’s and 40’s and others who it just looks ridiculous on.

They said WHAT!?

So when you see someone that has noticeably lost weight, do you say something? Do you say something like “You look great!” OR “Wow you’ve lost a ton of weight!” Oh wait, and my personal favorite “You have a pretty face.”  Do you think that person that said that realizes it’s not a compliment and actually sounds a little insulting? OR if someone talks about working out on their status and the comments below say something like “Keep up the good work!” Is that insulting insinuating they need to keep going or are those words of encouragement?

Are there any “nice” ways of saying to someone when they have noticeably lost weight? Its human nature I think to notice someone when they are different. People feel the need to say something to the other person. Has this always been the norm, to worry about complimenting someone? OR is society more emotional and politically correct these days?

Driving report cards for teenagers

I’m not that parent that wants to buy my teenager a “new car” but after looking at this article it sure is tempting!

Toby Pett sent in this link in relation to the post about teen driving last week. The new 2016 Chevy Malibu is coming out with a system that will give you a report of how your child was driving among other wicked cool features! SAY WHAT! HOW AWESOME IS THAT?

Do you have good manners?

Has this happened to you? Or are you one of THOSE people?

After driving around the parking lot looking for a space, for who knows how long, I finally found someone walking to their car. Mind you, there is no one else in sight and I wait patiently for the person to put away their groceries. May I add I had my blinker on as well.

As the person pulls out of the space there is another car that comes around the corner from the other end and proceeds to pull into the parking space. ARE YOU KIDDING ME RIGHT NOW?

The look on my face must of been filled with rage and the person saw and proceeded to back out of that space. As they drove past me they yell “Relax!”

Really A**hole? Relax! They are lucky they pulled out of that space because clearly they would of gotten an earful about manners!

What would you do?

Say you’re driving along on 128 and there is this car up your rear end so you decide to switch lanes. You then see this car zip past you and start weaving in and out of cars up ahead. Traffic slows down a bit so you meet up with this car once again. You get a good look at the driver and it happens to be a teenage driver, not any teenager but you know the parents.

Do you call the parents and tell them what you saw? OR

Do you leave it alone because it’s “none of your business”?

Thoughts?

Would you be offended if…

Who pays on the first date?  In the year 2015 there really isn’t a right or wrong answer.

Some men get offended when a woman insists on paying the bill and some women get offended when the men are adamant on paying. Is it who asks out who first is the one that pays? Is it the person that picks the place? Nevertheless it can be an awkward moment at the end of the meal.

6 year celebration at Seaport Grille continues!

In case you didn’t know it’s Seaport Grille’s 6 year anniversary celebration! North Shore Acappella was performing last night and if you have not had the pleasure of hearing them one word: AMAZING! What an awesome experience for my son, 10, to hear an Acappella group for the first time! I wasn’t the only one dancing in my seat to the 50’s! When they started singing Rockin’ Robin and my son had never heard it I became sad.  How could I have deprived my son of Rockin’ Robin for the past 10 years?!

Festivities continue tonight check it out!

To date or not to date? That is the question.

date

Kids do not come with an instruction manual and it does not get any easier when they are teenagers! Teenagers who want to date! I would like to say to my daughter, you can date when you are 30! (actually I do) I guess it’s a part of growing up, the whole dating and crush thing in high school. We’ve all been there but when it comes to your own kids frankly it just sucks.

It’s no secret that the world we live in today is NOT the same world from even 15 years ago.
Social media and texting just came into play when I graduated high school so I cannot imagine having the outlets these kids have today. Texting, Facebook, Instagram, email etc. the list goes on and on. Have you read what these kids are texting each other when they are dating? Have you seen the pictures these kids are posting when they are dating? Trust me I’ve seen my fair share and more than I want.

What I have seen in my time as a mother is the kids who are dating have parents that are older, as in 50’s and 60’s with a teenager.  It’s the younger parents I see that are more hesitant to let their kids date. Why do you think that is? Is it because the older parents are out of touch with social media as opposed to the younger parents who are also on social media and can monitor their kids? There may be no real answer as to what age you should let your teenager date but there are definitely some factors we have today that were not there some time ago.

After a few too many adult beverages Joey may or may not come to regret his fateful decision of asking me to become an official GMG contributor. My role as we discussed and maybe to your dismay, will be to give the straight dope without filter as I see things (oh boy) You may agree with me or you may vehemently disagree with me, but know that what I put on these pages will be straight from my heart without excuses.

As far as the poll goes we are looking for my new username. Please chime in and whichever one wins I’ll be using going forward.
