The Lobster For Lunch

It was so nice to get back to The Lobster on East Main St for lunch last week. I had been craving a taco salad and theirs is outstanding. Love the spicy tang in that salad. Jim got the smashburger which was a nice welcome back from our recent road trip. And, only for the sake of this blog post, I also ordered the key lime pie. Honestly, it’s the BEST. Thank you Lobster staff for such a wonderful experience.

On Sunday the Parade of Sail was incredible.  I took over 600 photos the shots just kept on coming.  Many observers mentioned how emotional it was to see these beautiful schooners decorating Gloucester Harbor.  Thank you to the committee, volunteers, The schooners and wonderful visitors who came to our beautiful city. f

Margarita Monday 2026 Wrap Up

It’s Labor Day so it’s time to wrap up the Margarita Monday series. Today we are featuring Blue Collar Lobster on Rogers Street and their house margarita. This one squeaked onto my list of top 3 for the last post of the summer. Refreshingly tart and served with a smile which is the way I like them.

A reminder that the motivation behind this series is to point out which places are open on Mondays and serve margaritas. This year we visited Beauport, Tonno, Azorean, Seaport Grill, Salt Water Grill, The Lobster, The Burn, Shipyard Tavern, Blue Marlin, Sam and Joe’s, Jalapenos, Minglewood, Cala’s, Boat House and Blue Collar. We only forgot one Monday! My Gloucester based top 3 include Blue Collar, Minglewood and The Lobster. Cheers and see you next summer!

Why are we presenting an exhibition about a legendary Texas Ranger-turned-military commander-turned-Sheriff?
Because the story is personal.

John Coffee Hays was the great-uncle and namesake of our founder, John Hays Hammond Jr.

Join us as we celebrate the opening of our new temporary exhibition, “Brave-Too-Much”: The Legend of John Coffee Hays, an original temporary exhibition presented in partnership with the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum in Waco, Texas. Through the loan of museum artwork and the sharing of fascinating stories, this unique exhibition introduces New England audiences to the legendary Texas Ranger captain.

The exhibition traces Hays’s extraordinary journey from joining the Texas Rangers at just 19 years old to becoming one of the most respected military leaders of his era. Notable Rangers who served under or alongside him include Samuel Walker, co-inventor of the Colt Walker revolver, the first practical six-shooter in the Old West, and Flacco, a Lipan Apache chief, who gave him the nickname “Bravo-Too-Much” (aka “Brave-Too-Much”) for his boldness in battle.

The exhibition explores his role in the Texas Republic, the Mexican-American War, the California Gold Rush, and the founding of early California communities, while also examining the complex history of the American frontier and the many cultures that shaped it. Join Curatorial Director John Leysath on September 16 to uncover the remarkable connection and explore “Brave-Too-Much”: The Legend of John Coffee Hays before it opens to the public.

Don’t miss the interesting exhibit at the Manchester -By-the Sea Museum called “ Manchester , the Revolution and the War at Sea.” As part of America’s 250th birthday , the museum highlights Manchester ‘s role in the American Revolution .You will also learn about the Forster Flag which was held by Manchester Minutemen . The exhibit runs until September 19th .

A fantastic day on Saturday

Schooner Festival is my favorite weekend.  The weather was terrific and the schooners did not disappoint.  We took a sail on the Ardelle to enjoy Gloucester’s beautiful Harbor and other Schooners that were out there.  Thank Harold for a wonderful sail.  We are blessed to live here.
