Hi Joey ,
I always consider my self extremely lucky when I visit the Jodrey State Fish Pier and get to watch the fishermen mending their nets and get a chance to say hello . Such nice people .
One more reason I love Gloucester .

Hey Joey
Growing up in Pigeon Cove was truly magical. We had the quarries and Dogtown behind us with the Tool Company hammers and ocean in front. Riding our bikes ‘in to town’ was a big adventure.
Seeing the Motif was never casual. Its red siding dotted with colorful buoys sitting stop the harbor reassured me that I belonged to Cape Ann and the sea. It’s grip has never let go.
In the early 70’s our neighbor had secured MOTIF 1 on his Mass plate and even made it into the GD Times when he did do. I thought that was pretty cool, even as a kid.
After moving to CA in the 90’s I decided I was going to have the same plate. I researched and found that it was available despite the fact that one of the guy’s sons lives down in Laguna Beach.
So thanks for the sticker. It will sit proudly next to the MOTIF 1 plate and my UMass alumni sticker. Once a townie always a townie.

upcoming special event September 16, 2023

Mark your calendars: Jane Deering shares the announcement for an upcoming debut at Annisquam Village Church.

Lobster Cove String Quartet debuts at historic Annisquam venue
Gloucester, MA – The Lobster Cove String Quartet makes its debut
Saturday evening, September 16, 2023 at 7:30pm.
The white walls of the historic Annisquam Village Church will become
the canvas for a soundscape of swirling tone-colors, as the Gloucester-based
group presents To Paint the Night: a diverse bill of fare showcasing the richness
and versatility of the string quartet format.
The program opens with Astor Piazzolla’s fiery Four for Tango, before
probing the dark night of the soul which is Dmitri Shostakovich’s String
Quartet No. 8—dedicated by the composer “to the victims of fascism and
war.” Thelonious Monk’s ‘Round Midnight, newly arranged for quartet by
violinist and composer Scott Moore, is all blues and purples and grays:
lush, playful, and mysterious. The concert closes with the sensual
Impressionism of Claude Debussy’s radiant String Quartet in G minor.
The Lobster Cove String Quartet is the latest creation of Scott Moore, Artist-in-
Residence at the Annisquam Village Church. Moore is joined by members
Erica Pisaturo (violin), Brandon White (viola), and Alex Fowler (cello).
Admission is by donation ($35 suggested), and a reception with the artists
will follow the performance.

What an amazing sail on Friday afternoon on The Adventure. It was incredible and amazing. The phots only tell a small story of the beauty of the schooners. Can not wait to for the rest of the weekend. Thank you to the crew, volunteers and Captain Christa Miller for a great sail.

We have been looking forward to Vita Bella opening in the former Windward Grill in Essex (Eastern Ave). They have only been open for about a week, but we decided to give it a try. Our experience was one of a well run longstanding restaurant with very few opening week glitches. Honestly, I was expecting a few little issues but we had none. The inside is refreshed with the layout basically the same as I remember from the Windward. There was a decent crowd there for a Tuesday evening. Kristina was our attentive and helpful server.
Jim had a side salad and the Bolognese. I had ravioli with a sausage side dish. We also ordered the crostini app (which as you can see, was very generous in portions). We each enjoyed our entrees and brought enough home for another meal. We each had a drink and the bill was very reasonable. We thought the menu was nicely varied and we are intrigued to try Vita Bella for lunch someday soon. Give them a try! They are ready for you!
