Downtown Campus, 27 Pleasant Street, Gloucester, MA
Free and open to the public

Celebrate the fish city’s recognizably salty character with local cultural institutions and businesses during the 2nd Annual Gloucester’s So Salty festival on January 21 and 22, 2023 from 10:00 am – 5:00 pm! Over 800 people came out last year to share their salty pride while enjoying free ice sculptures and cultural activities around Downtown Gloucester. The Cape Ann Museum is partnering with several area cultural institutions and businesses to offer two full days of free programming in the coldest part of the year. Inspired by the annual Salem’s So Sweet event, this two-day event will include ice sculptures, live music, salty treats, free kids’ art activities, and much more.

Teaming up for the event is a unique partnership between Art Haven, Movement Arts Gloucester, MA (MAGMA), Cape Ann Olive Oil, the Book Store of Gloucester, Discover Gloucester, Pathways, Maritime Gloucester,  and more! Participants are invited to bundle up and stroll down Pleasant Street and Hancock Street or wander across Main Street and Rogers Street to find free activities.

Grab an icy map from the Museum and find ice sculptures across Downtown Gloucester. Check back soon to see more details on the schedule:

Gloucester Fire Department Receives State Grant for Student Awareness of Fire Education and Senior SAFE Programs

Chief Eric Smith is pleased to announce that the Gloucester Fire Department was awarded $4,381 for the Fiscal Year 2023 Student Awareness of Fire Education (S.A.F.E.) Program and $2,277 for the Senior SAFE Program by the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services.
The funding gives the department the opportunity to work directly with students in schools and seniors to educate them about fire safety and prevention. Each program is tailored to the common needs of each age group and includes general fire prevention reminders and safe practices in the home. Lessons feature many safety topics including steps to take if a fire alarm goes off.
The lessons taught in the school-based program are in line with the standards of the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Health Curriculum Frameworks and the state Department of Fire Services Curriculum Planning Guidebook.
Twenty-seven years after the introduction of the S.A.F.E program within schools, the rate of annual child fire deaths has decreased by 78%, according to the state’s Department of Fire Services, which administers the two programs.

3 Years Ago Today

Three years ago today. Sometimes, when life is simply all about work and taxiing my boys around, it can be difficult to find something “Gloucester” to share at 9:00 am. Today was one of those days. So, I turned to my Facebook memory and realized that three years ago today we were in Laguna Beach, California on a zodiac to see the whales, sea lions, and dolphins. That was Day #1 of our west coast trip to visit my brother. We later visited Rodeo Drive, the Hollywood Hills, Venice Beach, the Santa Monica Pier, and much more. About six weeks later we found ourselves in a full-blown pandemic and we were even more thankful that we had taken the opportunity to travel and spend time with family.

I’d like to thank my wife Katelyn Ciaramitaro for leading the fundraising 50/50, raffle and silent auction with Ralph DiGiorgio. I’d like to thank Caitlin Pszenny and Nic for being incredible hosts and donating all of the bowling proceeds. Thanks go out to the bowlers who showed up and had a great time. I’d like to thank Ruth Carroll Pino, Annie Rochon and Susan Gould Coviello for help collecting money at the gate. I’d like to thank Pat Dalpiaz and Jim Dalpiaz for her work as treasurer. Teresa Imbrunone Ferrara for her patient help at Cape Ann Savings Bank. Most importantly I’d like to thank all those local businesses and residents that donated raffle prizes and bought raffle tickets that drove home the huge number for Scottie’s care. I’d be remiss to not mention Warren Waugh and Karen Hanson for their support in the darkest days of trying to get Scottie home.
