Final 4~ Cape Ann United moving on to the semis! #MTOC Massachusetts State Soccer Tournament

Never give up! On June 24 and June 25, two brackets of four teams in this age group battled to make it to the final four on June 26. Cape Ann United needed at least three goals in their second game today, and the other teams had to meet specific spreads if there was a chance to move on. Unbelievably, that’s what happened! The win was so thrilling, the Arlington players they lost to yesterday ran over to congratulate the Cape Ann United players afterwards. Pembroke and Harvard are out. It was such a unique sports win, as much or more exciting than winning three matches straight.

How can you not be a believer of this team when you see them score 3 goals in the last 10 mins against Harvard (who seemed likely the best team in our group) to knock them out and advance to the semis! It is confirmed; We play at 9am tomorrow on field 9. If we’re fortunate enough to win, we’ll play in the finals at 10:50am.”

Congratulations to the Gloucester Fire Department for Winning This Morning’s Seine Boat Races

As is the tradition, at 10:00 this morning the Coast Guard, Gloucester Police Department, and Gloucester Fire Department engaged in some healthy competition with their annual seine boat race. After an initial false start (or something like that) the GFD ended up victorious. It was quite a week in Gloucester and it was really wonderful to see all of the crews having a good time…no matter who won!

It was a great afteroon for the Friday night Greasy Pole walk yesterday. Sunny and mild for the men taking that long walk in an attempt to grab the flag. As we posted previously, Leo Cannavo was the Friday winner and here are some other memorable scenes, including one very near miss! Viva!
