What a bad take.
We think of malls as places where we can mindless wander in-and-out of shops. Because your expectation was not met, this does not mean it is a “mortuary.” Publically labelling it as such is an insult, and is damaging to the hundreds of people who find self-betterment and thier livelihoods in this space. Liberty Tree is taking a turn and is growing as a space for bigger and more intentional businesses. Yes, with less foot-traffic a food court will die. Pictured above are the rear ends of front-facing, alive and successful businesses.
The people in their programs at Northeast Arc, the hairdressers, the people finding comfort in a church, the children learning to swim, the bustling nail salon, the people caring for their bodies at the gym: these are not the whole of what’s to find at Liberty Tree, and they surely are not dead. Outside of the food court, there was only one unclaimed vaccant space you pictured that still serves a purpose in its vaccancy.
I found just last week when in a personal slump: I could get a mani-pedi, a smoothie, an eyebrow clean up, a new hair-do, new slippers, new earrings, and a massage all in one short walk. And if my slump required a human’s compassion, there was a girl sitting in front of the church’s cafe ready to talk to anyone who wanted to sit. It was then that Liberty Tree awakened as a truly magical space for me. I dont know where else I could have experienced such ease of comfort anf self-care.

This breaks my heart. I’m homesick, but things like this make me glad I’m where I am. Liberty Tree food court, Ann & Hope, those wonderful cozy places that were such a GOOD part of life, gone gone gone … 😪

I was a LTM RAT,Loved going there on my day off from work or before work.
It’s sad that theres nothing left in the food court anymore. There is only a couple stores in the mall that I like other than that that mall has gone downhill.
