The snowy white blossoms of one of North America’s most beautiful native trees, the Catalpa, is in full bloom at the Sargent House Museum. Beautiful for its orchid-like flowers, dangling bean pods, and ginormous heart-shaped leaves, hummingbirds also love to drink nectar from the blossoms

Unfortunately, it is a BIG tree, too big for our yard!

This is quite a coincidence. Last night I passed a tree while walking home from the Blvd on Centennial. I was struck by a very strong scent of a blossoming tree and took the tip of a branch with the sweet smelling flowers. The leaves look very much like the catalpa, but the flowers look smaller and more delicate (almost feathery).
Would that be a different type of catalpa? I couldn’t match the flower online.
