Good Morning Gloucester FOB Al Bezanson shares the following story:
The City of Gloucester is represented at the Boston Seafood Show, a trade only event that runs through Tuesday at the World Trade Center. Here Rosalee Nicastro is handing out bite size fresh cakes where the main ingredient is hake right off the boat. The recipe is from the Gloucester Fisherman’s Wives Association. This exhibition features more than a thousand booths with seafood from all over the world and this product is a standout.

LETTER TO THE TIMES: CATHERINE RYAN ROCKS!!
We’re sharing this lovely letter about GMG’s own Catherine Ryan, which was sent to the the Gloucester Daily Times, and written by Pauline Bresnahan.
To the editor:
The year 2013 was the first year I was asked to be on the city of Gloucester’s Tourism Commission. I have met many people who love the city and want to use their area of knowledge to help our community.
It was then that I met and started working alongside my now dear friend Catherine Ryan. I am constantly in awe of her dedication to her family and her love of Gloucester and Cape Ann.
It is a great privilege and honor to be able to call Catherine a friend but even more to let her know that I cannot thank her enough for what she does for us here in Gloucester. I have amazing respect for this amazing woman and I wanted to just let her know that.
If you know Catherine, you also know she is a humble woman who never asks for recognition but will be the first to recognize others for their work. You will often see her posts on Good Morning Gloucester. She is always sharing the work of others in the city and helping to promote events. Catherine does not hesitate to help a young person who might need some help or advice. Her ability to research stories and share factual information for the readers of the blog are extremely useful.

I love that social media can bring you inside everyone’s homes for St. Joseph’s! It invites you to be a part of all the celebrations going on around the city and feel the spirit of the day and I thoroughly enjoy seeing them all. It does not matter how elaborate or how humble the celebrations are, it is a day when families can make more memories together and share traditions with our kids. Here are some photos of Sista Felicia’s Feast day preparations, blessing and celebration. It was a glorious day filled with a great family, good friends, and some amazing food!! Pet of the Week- Ruby
Some dogs are just classics, from the moment you look at them you think “that’s one cool dog”. That’s Ruby. She’s a work in progress if you will. A little rusty in spots but nothing a little TLC won’t fix. This girl is super smart! She knows sit, stay, leave it, and down. She is also crate trained. She’s got a super nose and would do GREAT with “nosework” if that’s your cup of coffee. We did some here with her and she loved it. A true friend Ruby’s favorite place is beside a person, someone who gives her scratches behind the ears or a good rub to her head.
You may be asking yourself what is this rust you mentioned? Ruby LOVES to chase cars and needs serious training on the leash to learn not to chase them (as this can be a very dangerous behavior). Ruby used to try and chase them while she was IN the car as well. She would very intently bark at them, jump to the front and back, side to side of the car. We have worked very hard with Ruby on this and she can now go for car rides and will settle with being tethered and a KONG, or with a barrier raising her head when the car slows with perhaps the occasional bark. Ruby needs a home with adults and teens that are experienced with dogs and are committed to helping her over this one last hurdle.
So if you’re looking for that perfect pal, that oversized lap-dog, one you will enjoy training and working with. A smart pooch who enjoys spending time exercising outdoors, well then stop by and visit Ruby! We’ve been to many hockey rinks since the boys started playing, but the one Thatch’s team played at this weekend has thought of everything. Nice pro shop, full snack bar, beer, LOTS of advertising for Convenient MD Urgent Care (with its motto “Just Walk In”….which maybe should say, “Just Skate In”) and an Amazing Smiles Dental Clinic. Genius!

Canned Food Drive 4/8 to help St Vincent de Paul
Come help us fill the shelves of the St Vincent DePaul food pantry that supports our neighbors on Cape Ann. On Saturday April 8th you can help us by bringing your canned foods to Market Basket, Shaw’s on Eastern Ave and Rite Aid in Rockport. The Gloucester Knights of Columbus will be there with local Boy and Girl Scouts from 9 am to 3 pm.

Green Screen 101 at Cape Ann TV March 21st
Cape Ann TV’s Lunch & Learn Series continues on Tuesday, March 21 at 7PM with “Green Screen 101”. Presentation and demonstration by Ted Reed, professional video producer.

WHAT IS GREEN SCREEN/CHROMA KEY?
Chroma Key or Green Screen is a fantastic tool for filmmaking that opens up so many storytelling opportunities. It isn’t too difficult provided you know the basics and is easy to use for your films whether you are making an independent low budget film or Hollywood Blockbuster.
Green screens are a key tool in a technique called chroma keying. In a basic scenario this may involve a person/subject being filmed standing in front of a green (or blue) screen. Then using an editing program the green color is digitally removed from the video file leaving the person/subject. A new image/video is then layered behind them. If done well it should look as though the person is actually standing in the scenario that is happening in the background.
The ability to chroma key opens up an array of options for filmmakers. For example if you are filming a news story and you need your presenter to look as though they are standing out the front of the Taj Mahal, then you could use this technique instead of ACTUALLY taking a news reporter to the Taj Mahal. It saves a lot of time and money.
