#Porkribs 7/22/16 on the @WeberGrills Kettle with assistance from the Performer

Obviously I love BBQ cooking.  I love the versatility and ease of using two kettles but if I were only going to own one it would have to be a Performer.  That cart just makes everything so simple and convenient.  Being able to rest your tray of prepped food of hold your remote thermometer sensor makes things so simple.  When you factor in the gas assist for starting your coals, to me, it’s a no-brainer to go with a Performer.

When you consider the fact that unlike gas grills , a Weber Kettle can easily last you over 20 years with the bare minimum of care and you divide out the cost of ownership over all those years, I’d recommend you buy a Performer every time.  It’s only a couple hundred more and when you think that you probably only get 5 years on average out of a gas grill…

PRAYERS FOR DOMINIC NICASTRO AND HIS FAMILY

The man who for years was St. Peter’s guardian and played a central role in St. Peter’s Fiesta has passed away.

Dominic Nicastro Sr., 66, who went to work as a commercial fisherman right after graduating from Gloucester High School, died early Thursday morning at the Golden Living Center after a lengthy illness.

For decades, Nicastro played a central role in Fiesta’s salute to the patron saint of fishermen, first as one of the carriers of the St. Peter’s statue and then, from 2000 through 2015, as its primary guardian, said Joe Novello, head of St. Peter’s Fiesta Committee. Nicastro was the statue’s fifth guardian in the festival’s 89-year history, handing over the duties to Joe Orlando in 2015.

“He was a genuine man, just a very good guy,” said Novello of Nicastro on Thursday. “He was a very proud man, but he was very respected as a leader.”

Novello recalled that Nicastro eventually bought his own lobster boat, then later worked as a diesel mechanic with the Cape Ann Transportation Authority. But his heart, he said, was always with Fiesta.

“He so loved St. Peter,” said Sara Favazza, 86, whose father, Capt. Salvatore Favazza, commissioned the statue in 1927 and is among the founders of Fiesta.

Nicastro served for years as president of the St. Peter’s Club, and played a role in organizing Fiesta’s sporting events. He regularly joined his wife Catherine in attending each night of the nine-day Novena to St. Peter, Novello recalled.

The Reason You Call J&L Welding…

Jeff and his crew have deep roots in the fishing community if #GloucesterMA.  He knows when a critical piece of equipment goes down in the offloading process that it will be a major hit to the port.

The boom goes down  and within an hour Jeff came down to measure stock and had his crew on the job to get us back up running.  A crisis situation is a whole lot less stressful when you have a company like J&L on your side.   Thank you Jeff and company.

Hold on to your hats! Dave Sag’s Blues Party tonight! w/ Bob Davis, David Brown, Dave Mattacks and dear Ol’ Dave Sag himself. 8:30 @ The Rhumb Line 7.21.2016

This week’s clash of the gods features the return match of Euphonium, the Roman God of fake IDs, versus Hernia, the Greek Goddess of surgical appliances. No! Wait! That’s my tri-polar self talking. Indeed, I hear voices in other people’s heads! This is what they really tell me:
This Thursday sees the fabulous return of guitar slingers Mr.Bob Davis, aka Johnny Carbuncle and Mr. Dave Brown, the world’s biggest… practitioners of bigness, that is, as their incredible styles clash and remagnetize in the sphere of possibilities. The Atomic Clock, Mr. Dave Mattacks, provides the impetus: I provide the Basest. this is the Rhumb line, where all is possible. This is Thursday: hours:8:30 to 11:30.

Yours truly, Dave

Catch a moon…or not

I’ve alway said that the best part about photography is what I learn about what I’m shooting and the people I meet along the way.   Last night I was out, so I thought I would try to catch the moon since I missed the actual full moon the night before.   I headed over to GHB and grabbed my gear out of the car, but there is just something about a camera with a big lens that makes people want to sidle up to you and chat.   Little do they realize that I had about a 10 minute window to get what I was after, and alas I did not get the shot I was going for, but I did however chat with a family whose young son told me that this was a “Full Buck Moon” which represents the time of the year when the male deer start to grow antlers (hmmm….didn’t know that!).   Then I ran into my niece (or she ran into me while she was out running and she then proceeded to photobomb my moon pic (which she thought she ruined, but I thought it will be a fun memory of “that summer night when…”) and finally I met Ed Comer who runs the Blue Shutters Inn across the street and was out admiring the moon with his guests the rest of us!   So no…I didn’t get a NatGeo quality photo, but I still had a GOOD night of photography!!
