This Guy

I’m so mad that I forgot about these photos until last night.  Posting photos of this guy on a 37 degree day isn’t nearly as fun as it would have been on February 12th when my car thermometer read 9 degrees.  It was that very day that he drove past me on 1A in Beverly.  I was coming back from a quick trip to Tendercrop on my lunch break and, the consummate blogger that I am (the adjective…not the verb…and an exaggeration at that) I simply had to turn around and get a better look as I saw him turn in for gas.

Might I add that he took forever getting gas (with two trips into the gas station) and I felt more than a bit like a stalker as I sat in the parking lot waiting for him to exit so that I could snap a decent pic.

It was FREEZING that day….I’m quite certain we broke records….yet, there he was driving around town in his Cobra…and his helmet.  Was the helmet for safety?  I’m guessing it was because of the cold. Did he want to be out driving his convertible in such extreme temps…or was his other car at the mechanic.   I had so many questions. Maybe he’ll write in.

  1. Memory Lane! Thanks! 🙂 Dave

That is a cold day to be out for a ride but a clear beautiful day (and love the cobra) and heck of nice ride bet he had the heater turned all the way and layered the clothing thick. I myself would be more worried about hitting sheet of ice or someone else hitting it and whacking me! No excuse you could not see this highly polished chrome and red! I will admit I did drive in a 1957 Chevy convertible top that was broken and froze my behind off but in that case I rather freeze for the 5 minute ride than freeze for the 20 minute walk 🙂

This is a beautiful car for sure and the Esso sticker reminds me of the old service station Wickies across from seaside cemetery in the 60’s where Washington Street meet Langsford street met Washington street the service station was sort of the tip. This is where all the teens would burn rubber turning from Washington street back onto Langsford street we all hung out there…All the muscle cars from the cape!

The lone Gloucester Police car patrolling up to Rockport line with bubble on top would stop in and tell us all to be careful and it was clear from all the rubber marks on street there been some burnouts and Yankee peddlers smoking there (Very rare but if they caught you in the act you may get a ticket but most times a verbal counseling think they remembered they were teens once too! 🙂

    🙂 Dave & Kim 🙂
