Bill Hubbard Gloucester Paintings Now Online
Bill Hubbard has been chosen to have a showing of 14 of his paintings in the Main Gallery of Copperflame Galleries from December 1 through December 31st, 2011. Beginning on Dec. 1st. you may view his artwork at http://copperflame.com/maingallery-15.php. Six other artists will be showing their work in adjacent galleries at Copper Flame.
Hubbard shares Indian River Artiosts Studio with his wife and partner, Theresa A. Kraemer. He specializes in marine art, seascapes and boats as well as fishing and fish.
He is a member of the Strawbridge Art League in Melbourne, Florida, where he lives. Hubbard studied in Gloucester, Massachusetts, with Margaret Taylor and Robert Benham. Anton Stetzko, the watercolorist, greatly stimulated his urge to create art while he was living on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, from 2002 to 2006.
He is currently working in the mixed media of acrylic, pen and ink. He is from a fishing family, so his painting leans heavily toward seascapes, nautical and tall ship subjects. He paints realistic historical subjects like famous Gloucester fishing schooners, Maine trading schooners and Indian River wind and steam driven boats and ships. He looks at his marine paintings as telling a story – sometimes obvious and sometimes subtle..

Gloucester City Hall – Brand New
Gloucester City Hall, circa1875 Alice M. Curtis/©Fredrik D. Bodin
I made this print of City Hall from one of my oldest negatives. It was shot from a high vantage point on Middle Street. Dale Avenue is in the lower left, and Pleasant Street is on the right. The Civil War Statue, erected in 1879, now in the front center, is not yet there. Boston architects Gridley J.F. Bryant and Louis P. Rogers designed the building, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. One thing I learned while writing this is the four towers on City Hall’s corners are ventilation shafts. Questions for Cape Ann Museum’s Photo Archivist Fred Buck: Can you add to this (shooting location, surrounding buildings, etc.), and do you have anything older?
Printed from the original 5×7 inch glass negative in my darkroom. Image #9157-251 Note: The black objects in the sky are missing parts of the negative.
Fred Bodin
The Infamous Fred Buck Replies-
well, sure. yours is probably a copy neg (5×7 is way too big) of one of several stereograph images of city hall (each side albumen plate 3×4 and joined on a piece of clear glass to print the stereo card) taken by erastus g. rollins about 1872 from the tower of the unitarian church on middle st. to the left of the building is franklin square. on the right is the nice circular drive fronting warren st. cape ann museum has rollins’s original glass negs of these views in their archive (without homie poop all over them) as well as the stereo cards printed by rollins and succeeding owners of the plates. we also have bryant and rogers’ original plans of the building. c’mon down!

p.s. don’t think alice m. curtis was taking photos in the 1870s.

Big Bird ID Request From Martha Lazarus
Hi Joey,
Some noisy crows attracted my attention to this magnificent bird passing by Lane’s Cove this morning. Can someone help me identify it?
Cheers,
Martha Lazarus
My completely uneducated guess is a Red Tailed Hawk but hope to hear from the many bird watching freaks that frequent GMG ![]()

You Think This Poor Cat Will Ever Get It’s Revenge?
Imagine you’re this cat-
Photo from this blog-http://jimmiechew.wordpress.com/
You’re a handsome cat, right?
Proud, well groomed and all, just chillin’ looking like a bad ass.
And then your owner goes and fucks your shit all up to pieces by dressing you up
We can only pray that this poor once-proud feline doesn’t gouge it’s owners eyes out while they sleep in an act of well deserved revenge.
Shit ain’t right.
I’m no fan of the crazies at PETA but if they really cared about the mistreating of animals they’d be all over this and perform some type of intervention.
If our poor deceased cat JJ Jinglenuts was still alive (god rest his soul) I’d send him in ninja style to help this poor kitty.
JJ was a silent assassin. laying out his kills at the front door, all proud. Chipmonks, mice, birds- JJ Jinglenuts wouldn’t tolerate wearing any pansy burberry print coat. Oh Hell NO. and to be honest he wouldn’t have had to endure the ridicule by all his kitty cat buddies because I never would have submitted him to that. It was bad enough we had his nuts lopped off, what were we gonna go dress him up like Liberace next? No way Jose.
This was our boy JJ Jinglenuts-
(note no fairy clothing present)
Warning- JJ Jinglenuts Latest Victim Pictures- Alvin and The Chipmunks Are A Man Down
We Must Protect This House!!!!! JJ Jinglenuts- New Spokescat For Under Armor
But alas Mr Jingles couldn’t keep up his ways forever and karma caught up with him-
Karma’s A Bitch- RIP JJ Jinglenuts

Just got a call from the Mrs.
Our neighbor just popped by to let her know that there’s a tore up cat in his yard and it looks like JJ. I guess all the killing of the mice and the chipmunks finally caught up to the poor fella and an animal a little higher on the food chain got him last night.
JJ I hope you’re having fun up in heaven and there is plenty of fine pussy up there for you to play with. We’ll miss you buddy.
We got JJ as a kitten at the animal shelter in Salem. It was after a long period of trying to conceive our first child without success and many medical procedures. Within a month of JJ’s arrival into our home The Mrs became pregnant with The Bean.

Let’s Settle This With a Poll- At What Age Do Parents Give The Birds and The Bees Talk?
Over breakfast the other morning one of our contributors shared the fact that a youngster in her family had confessed to having sex, matter of factly.
So I posed the question-
At what age do you give the birds and the bees speech? Your thoughts?
At what age do you offer to assist your kid with getting condoms or on “the pill”? Your thoughts?

Bike For Savanna Fundraiser
Hi-Pete Kelley here-Sports Director at North Shore 104.9. I saw the piece on Savannah Pallazola around the 15th of November and been amazed by this little girl everytime I see here around town. I met here at Scott Duffany wrestling event 2 years ago and was absolutely taken by her spirit and energy!!!
I have been doing a Sports Talk Show on 104.9 for 10 years now called the North Shore Sports Desk every Saturday morning from 8-9am (interviewing high school student athletes and coaches)and have done many “LIVE” shows to celebrate many high school sports teams Championship seasons in Gloucester(football)-Marblehead(football) and in Lynn for St Mary’s Girls Hockey to name a few!!
Now, my brother Paul Kelley-who owns the show ,has given me permission, along with Len Pallazola and Jackie Burns,(Savannah’s parents) to do a fundraiser at the Gloucester Depot Restaurant on Railroad Ave on December 17th from 8-9am to raise money for a special adaptive bike that Savannah needs as her Prosthetic legs will not allow her to ride a normal bicycle!!!
