Social platforms can all work together to attract more eyeballs and iminds to what you do.

Okay…so you are a Gloucester artist, non profit or small biz. You regularly post on Facebook, you may even have tried your hand at Twitter and you may have a LinkedIn profile. The challenge is to integrate the use of these tools…making them all work together in the most efficient way…because your time is valuable, right?

What is the difference in the way you present yourself, your art, your cause or your service on each one of these platforms…because there is a difference you know.

They’re all about engagement, but what works on Facebook, where you more or less know your “friends”, won’t necessary fly well on Twitter where you are engaging in the “global conversation” to maximize your reach. And believe it: if you are presenting yourself well on Twitter, they will find you.

Building a successful social media presence, requires an understanding of how these different environments work, and plugging away at it…Your art, your mission, your business is worth it…right?

And of particular value to artists is the Arts Map. If you’re not on the Arts Map, you should be, and if you are, how are you leveraging your Arts Map presence?

Barbara Oliver is a social media consultant and communications director for a non-profit. She also gives Facebook safety presentations for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Jo-Ann Castano is an artist, community cultural organizer and web developer. She has been active on the world wide web years before most of us had PC’s and Macs.

I have yet to be to a Gloucester Block Party, but this is how Joey C showed up to the Hamilton Community Block Party. The way he was selling the outfit, it was as if he was getting referrals for each lavish robe everyone bought from Restoration Hardware. He was later seen chanting as he left the party.

Pam Courtleigh and Cheryl Curran (hat) are living in Rockport under the witness protection program (hence the stickas over their faces and the ficticious names).  They came out of hiding and made the long and trecherous journey from Rockport to Gloucester to get the new Version 5.0  Good Morning Gloucester sticker and visit the gallery.  Friends of Good Morning Gloucester are such amazing and brave people.

That today is Violet Gray’s 40th birthday?  And she baked this awesome pineapple upside down cake and brought it over this morning for Mug Up at the gallery.  Those of you who were here, got a great treat – those of you who weren’t, missed this amazing, still warm out of the oven pineapple upsidedown cake that was to die for.  Thanks so much Violet, especially for doing this on your birthday, when you should have been home being pampered by Corey, not slaving over a hot oven (although it is so cold today that you probably really enjoyed hanging out by the oven).   Good Morning Gloucester FOB’s just rock diggity, and the Madfish Wharf neighbors are awesome.

Violet writes in with the recipe-

Pineapple Upside Down Cake
A throwback to the 1920s, also known as a Spider or Skillet Cake (cooked in a cast iron skillet).

1/4 cup margarine or butter
2/3 cup packed brown sugar
1 can sliced pineapple
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar
1/3 cup shortening (I use butter)
3/4 cup milk
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 egg

Heat oven to 350˚ Heat butter in 10 inch skillet until melted. Sprinkle brown sugar over butter. Arrange pineapple slices in skillet.
Beat remaining ingredients on low speed 30 seconds scraping bowl constantly. Beat on high speed 3 minutes, scraping bowl occasionally. Pour over fruit in skillet. Bake skillet 45-50 minutes/until it passes toothpick test. Immediately invert onto plate (careful the brown sugar butter mix tends to drip over the sides and its HOT)! Let skillet remain over cake a few minutes. Serve warm and add anything you desire, whipped cream or not! ENJOY.

There were almost 500 other mentalists in the running. Many of them are great mentalists who I look up to – Including the inspiration for Simon Baker’s television character in The Mentalist.”

Mr. Viera, a Taunton, MA resident doesn’t claim to be psychic. “I don’t read minds, I read people,” says Viera. “I simulate real mind reading by reading body language and non-verbal cues, by using subliminal influence, psychological suggestion, and perceptual manipulation to achieve what looks like genuine mind reading. It’s not psychic, but it’s as close as you could ever get.” By simply studying an audience member’s non-verbal communication (body language, facial expressions, eye movement, etc.) Davis can intuit numbers, words, or even pictures that exist only in audience member’s minds. Mr. Viera shows the difference between perception and reality by influencing an audience member’s perception of an event. Everyone clearly sees one thing, yet the volunteer experiences something completely different! He can also predict any newspaper headline weeks or even months in advance with incredible accuracy.

Mr. Viera, who is working on a television show of his own, will put his unique brand of award-winning mentalism combined with his quick wit on full-display on Monday, June 13 in Gloucester. He’ll determine the thoughts of random audience volunteers, he’ll quickly memorize entire magazine issues, and he’ll humorously solve a CSI-style murder mystery in a way that gets him standing ovations across the country.
