The guy in charge is indeed Mike Amaral who probably slices birthday cake neatly with a chain saw.
Those long black pipes dropped down through holes (lined with steel) through the barge are called spuds. They anchor the barge in place while allowing it to ride up and down on the spuds with the tide.
