From sciencetranslator on youtube-

Curt Brown filmed one of his lobster traps going into the water using a Flip camera and an underwater housing. In this video you can see the bait, a bluefish, drawing up lobsters and other animals.

    1. Thanks. I find that Gloucester has so many people that love that we live in a fishing community but since the fishing industry has dwindled down to such a fraction of what it once was it helps to show the people this kind of stuff so they can feel more connected to the waterfront.

      1. There are many of us who, although not directly related to the fishing industry, have great empathy for folks who do directly earn a living from the sea. On both a local and national level and in one way or another, the seemingly endless regulations, and now catch-shares system, forced upon the fishermen affect us all, whether by causing a neighbor to lose his/her job or business and by raising the cost of the food we so love.

        Several Questions for You:
        1) How do you receive information about the extraordinary maze of complicated rules and regulations? I try regularly to follow Richard Gaines articles in the Gloucester Daily Times, however, at the risk of sounding too critical, they are informative up to a point, but then usually digress to slamming the Obama administration at least once, often over policies that were put in place by the Bush administration. This type of commentary shows a politically prejudicial bias and is counter-productive to helping the industry, especially in light of the fact that there are many examples, on the local, state, and national level, of Republicans and Democrats working together to come to terms with industry needs and environmental concerns.
        2) Besides trying to stay informed by doing things like reading your blog, which is always terrifically informative, and purchasing locally harvested fresh seafood, what would you suggest are effective ways all of us can help our Gloucester seafood industry?

  2. OMG Joey, phenomenal. I could watch these 24/7. I love to see those beauties in their own element. For anyone interested there is an excellent DVD out, which I have, and is truly phenomenal and it is called Realm of the Lobster. Thanks so much Joey, for posting.
