If you guessed The Steve Conolly Seafoods/former John B. Wright building was what is now in place where the previous picture was taken then you would be right. Before it was this there was a department store and gas station here if I’m correct. Somene who knows for sure, fill us in in the comment secion right below.

Joe, Before urban renewal the Connolly site was my fathers texaco station, Frank & Gene’s Texaco. It was attached to HCBrown’s confectionary and tobacco store. On the second floor was the VFW hall. Behind this large building on the water was the Blue Seal paint factory. Before all this and during WWII this building was the District 1 Coast Guard Base.

Thanks Geno. My memory barely remembers HC Browns, but I remember pulling into the service station when they moved across from your photo shop when we were kids in the big old gurry trucks with my dad. We used to get all our gas there back in the day. The old guys were always so nice to us.

Leave it to Geno to know the whole history. Thats the first place I remember getting gas in my Mom’s new Bug ( 1971 ).
