The Mrs’ Brocolli Salad Recipe

From The Mrs after many emails asking for the recipe-

Brocolli Salad Recipe:
(I don’t add the raisins or the sunflower seeds, but I do add 1 pkg shredded Cheddar Cheese and instead of the green onions, I use 1 large red onion)

* 1 pound bacon
* 4 cups broccoli florets
* 5 green onions, chopped
* 1/4 cup sunflower seeds
* 1/4 cup golden raisins
* 1 cup mayonnaise
* 1/2 cup white sugar
* 6 tablespoons red wine vinegar

DIRECTIONS

1. Place bacon in a large skillet. Cook over medium-high heat until evenly browned. Cool, crumble, and set aside.
2. In a large bowl, toss together broccoli, green onions, sunflower seeds, raisins, and bacon.
3. In a small bowl, mix together mayonnaise, sugar, and red wine vinegar. Toss with vegetables to coat. Cover, and chill until serving.

Joey adds-

She didn’t say this part but  I remember her mentioning that if she is having a party she chops up all the ingredients and puts them in the fridge the night before in separate containers and then mixes them together just before serving to maintain the crispness of the veggies.

View Of the Aft Stern On The Western Venture

Here is the view from the wheelhouse looking directly toward the stern of the Western Venture. Note the enormous winches that will haul the nets in from the ocean. Hopefully full of herring.

Fence Down Between Lat 43 and Fishermen’s Wharf

The fence has been taken down between Latitude 43 and Fishermen’s Wharf.

I don’t know if Fishermen’s Wharf has been purchased by McDonough and Co, but it seems that way. There are still signs up in the Fishermen’s Wharf parking lot that say “authorized parking only” but it looks like the lot has been cleared and cleaned up for restaurant parking.

We went last night to use one of the Where The Locals Go Lat 43 buy two sushi rolls and get a free California Roll coupon and we parked in the Fishermen’s Wharf lot. The public walkway between Fishermen’s Wharf and Lat 43 is complete with some interesting pavers and the deck is certainly inviting. I took some pictures this morning at 4:45AM from the observation deck in front of Lat 43. Its a pretty good view if you are into the industrial harbor thing. Got some shots of the dorys that Damon uses and are tied up on the Saint Peter’s Marina floats.

Where the Locals Go Coupon Spotlight- Stone Leaf

Where The Locals Go

Another store contributing to the stunning revitalization in the West End of Main Street in Gloucester is Stone Leaf. Kathy Cuddyer has assembled an impressive array of high end wares that I know my wife loves.

Mariposa, Vera Bradley, and Caspari paper goods are all carried at Stone Leaf.

There are two Where the Locals Go Coupon offered for Stone Leaf. Both offer 20% off of total order. Thats some decent money.  I wonder how many people go in there and drop a couple hundred dollars and fail to purchase a Where the Locals Go coupon book on display right on the counter by the register that would save them $40, or $30 plus the cost of the coupon book.

Cyber Geisha’s News of the Weird: LOBSTER TASER

She makes my point about who gets to decide what is a humane and not humane way to kill a lobster much better than I do in my video interview with the salesman of The Crustastun at The International Boston Seafood Show.
Click the above link and read her stuff, pretty funny.

High Tech Controls Aboard The Western Venture

Down The Engine Room Of The Western Venture

Compared to the much smaller engine rooms of our lobster boats, the room to walk around the individual engines aboard the Western Venture seems downright cavernous. Spotless all the way around. You could eat off any of these engines the way they are kept so clean.
