Geno’s Glasses and Lunenburg Fishing Dory Plans

Here are the plans that Geno Mondello works off of for his Lunenburg dorys.

Sitting atop the plans are his glasses and the old school photo he promised to reproduce for me of our dock.

Ned’s Desserts and Free Cheese Sample Plate

This is the cheese that the cheese swiper was clipping when the owners weren’t looking.

I say if someone puts out cheese samples you should take one and if you really wanted another one you should politely ask.

The cheese swiper was scarfing em down every time they turned their backs.

What a rat.

Pamela and Patricia’s Funky Purple Traps

Pamela and Patricia, originally uploaded by captjoe06.

Shawn Cromwell, skipper of the Pamela and Patricia heads out to set his funky new purple traps.

It’s a first for me (I’ve never seen purple traps)

He ought to put little disco balls inside so the lobsters can have an eighties party once they trap up.

For Cousin Larry

For Cousin Larry, originally uploaded by captjoe06.

Yesterday was our 7 year anniversary and we were supposed to go out for dinner but my MIL wasn’t feeling up to babysitting.

On my way home from work I got a message from my cousin Larry. He called to let me know that he got a chuckle out of the tail on the shrimp blog entry titled “Chefs, Don’t Do This…” Larry said in his message that leaving the tail on the shrimp in a messy dish is a pet peeve of his too.

The next call I get is from the Mrs asking if I could pick up Thai food for dinner since she figured we were eating out for our anniversary.

Lo and behold I get to the Pad Thai back to the house and wouldn’t you know it, they left the tail on the damn shrimp!

Bastards!

I had to take a picture for cousin Larry.

Geno’s Dory Shop at the GMHC

Geno’s Dory Shop, originally uploaded by captjoe06.

From now on I’m calling the Maritime Heritage Center the GMHC.

Anyway I have a series of photos I took from Geno’s Dory Shop over at GMHC that I’ll be posting throughout the day.

I’ve seen a ton of old photographs of the flakeyards in Gloucester but could never distinguish one from our dock in East Gloucester until I stopped by and saw Geno. He happened to have one among the sawdust and I was blown away at the size and scope of the buildings that once sat on our property. The buildings were 3 stories high and lined East Main Street and went out over the water. My father often tells me stories about when my grandfather bought the place from Gortons and they handed him a huge round key chain with a ridiculous number of keys that lined up side by side touching each other all the way around this key ring like spokes on a bike only like it was about 200 keys for all the different rooms with locks.

Geno is going to make me a copy of the picture. Thanks Geno.

Ned’s Groceria

Ned’s Groceria, originally uploaded by captjoe06.

Something very cool about Ned’s-

They had samples of different cheese in a couple different locations of the store.

Something not so cool about Ned’s-

There was a woman (not the one in this picture) that I saw gobbling down this cheese every time the owner and guy behind the deli counter turned his back. It was pretty scummy. I think she thought that no one noticed. I did.

The trees over on Hog Island haven’t filled in yet. Once they do, this vista will be even more beautiful.

Leo D Allen Painting

Leo D Allen Painting, originally uploaded by captjoe06.

Here is another of Leo D Allen’s paintings on display at Passports. He has a gallery in Rockport that I’m meaning to get over to to photograph more of his paintings.

I dig it.

Oops!

Oops!, originally uploaded by captjoe06.

Somebody dropped something overboard on the set.

I hope it wasn’t an expensive camera lens. That saltwater will mess it up bad.

Dead Seagull

This poor fella has seen better days.

Anyone else remember back about 20 years when you couldn’t drive down Rogers Street without seeing a run over seagull?

Those were the days.

Proposal Movie Filming Update

Proposal Movie Filming Update, originally uploaded by captjoe06.

Lots of activity around the set at Pier 7 this morning.

The parking lot at Cripple Cove has been coned off, there are many many huge trucks with equipment there, and what looks like a director going over the scened waving his arms around. I speculate he is giving direction to the camera man.

I’ll try to give updates and gets some up close shots of the stars when they arrive.
