Ricky King Russell This Thursday’s Dave Sag’s Blues Party @ The Rhumb Line 8:30 – 11:30pm 12.11.2014

dave sag rl 4.3.2014

Well, it’s time for that most holy trinity of wise guy men: the Three Stooges of the East. (Boston, that is…). I do mean the perspiring trio of Edd Scheer, Ricky Russell ,and Mario Perrett.  These guys are the Hamburger Helper® of the blooze. With them around, anything can happen, and usually does. Ed’s an amazing singer and frontman who always puts out the grease to make my head spin. Throw in Ricky on gootar and vocals and things brighten up. Add Mario, former teen idol, on vocals and sax and what’s left? Chaos! But, seriously, folks, these are my favorite guys cuz we all get a chance to sing and play more stupid songs than are necessary and to have random harmonies to boot!  Come see!

Ho, Ho. Ho! Marry Christmas with music, and what do you get?…The gift that keeps on giving, even during your nightmares. In the spirit of Xmas passed and presence, I offer you my  favorite crowd- stomping musical buddies this coming black lung season, so, let’s get going!

Long a mainstay of the Rhode Island and Boston scene, his antics and dry humor will have you on your worst behavior! Forrest “Frosty” Padgett, drum-dribbler and all-around go to guy handles the boom booms. I’ll be the object of derision. Phew! what a nite!
Sunday, I’ll be re-living the nightmare at O’Reilly’s Bar in Newton. With Chris and a cast of thousands. Call for info.

dave sag rl mo

Dave says,

Tighten up your asteroid belt this Thursday as we blast off with the espied piper on the tenor sax: Mr. Gordon “Sax” Beadle. Everybody’s favorite! Just released from MGH where frantic doctors worked slavishly to relieve his screech defect , Big G. is being served piping hot for your musical edification. Not only that, but “Mr.” Edd “Duato” Scheer, on drums, will be joining us, too. What a night! We’re also dragging in Mr. Mike DiBari, kicking and screaming, on gootar, for that new car smell. We all sing, dance and play and will be cracking up all night long. You won’t get a chance to see anything like it again for many months!

We have a bit of rock/pop culture history with us this week
at the Rhumb Line.  After a 4-year absence, Andy Pratt finally
returns as musical guest.  A very special night.  I sincerely
hope no one misses it! ~ Fly

Wikipedia: Andy Pratt (born January 25, 1947) is an American
rock music singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. In the
1970s, he made a number of experimental records and scored a
commercial hit with “Avenging Annie”.  After words of praise
from Rolling Stone magazine (“By reviving the dream of rock
as an art and then re-inventing it, Pratt has forever changed the
face of rock”), he tried a more commercial approach.  Pratt
converted to Christianity in the late 1970s and continued to
make records and perform at big Christian pop music festivals.
Pratt has released over twenty studio albums as of April 2012.

Dave Sag’s Blues Party to host The Earley Birds @ The Rhumb Line Tonight 8:30-11:30pm 11.6.2014

dave sag rl 4.3.2014

Get that file out and start sharpening your chainsaw in preparation for the arrival of “The Earley Birdz”. No, not the dentist drill of a saxist, but the other one: the Mississippi saxophonist and graveyard vocalist, the OTHER Mark Earley. A great singer, I have worked occasionally with him and love his vibe and choice of material.

Of course, it doesn’t hurt to drag in that fabulous guitarist : Mr. Larry Sortwell, late of the great band “Grapevine Road”, to whoop it up. And wait’ll you hear his creamy voice, smooth as baby’s feet. Mr. John Cameron, keyboard wizard and my personal food taster, is also making a rare appearance, what with being so busy making toys for xmas in his workshop. Round it out with Mr. John Loud, local boy made good, on eggbeaters, and you have a great night of cool toons. I’m really excited about this. Now, if I could just stop the voices in my head….

Zombie Blowout and Costume Contest Halloween night @ The Rhumb Line with Just Like Newman ~ Friday at 8:30pm – 12:30am

Help out while having fun. In light of this weeks terrible fire in Magnolia, Just Like Newman would like to ask friends to come to the Halloween party this Friday night with a couple of extra dollars or perhaps a gift card to Marshalls, Market Basket, CVS or another local business that we can donate to the victims of the fire. We’ll put out a bucket to collect everything and 100% will go directly to the victims… Don’t forget to wear your costume!

This Thursday Just Quinn joins the Dave Sag’s Blues Party @ The Rhumb Line 8:30-11:30pm 10.30.2014

dave s b wDave says,

Golly; a lot of harp players lately. Yet, I’ve saved the best for last, at least for this month. Let’s welcome back Justin Quinn and his rolling roadblock for an evening of pedal-to-the-mettle fuel-injected blues. The long time host of Glenn’s Cool Bar blues sessions in Nbpt. is hitchhiking down here to give you a whiff of the real deal blueswise, and it’s going to be terrific, or,at least, terrifying. I love playing with this guy!

justin-quinn

He’s bringing along Mr. Jon Ross, guitarist xtroidinaire, to mold the clay, and the ever so tonsorially-challenged drummbler, Mr. Steevee Chaggaris, to beat you to a pulp. It’s pre-Halloween, so nobody will notice if you dress funny. Not that they ever do. Bring a date and dance to the whites of her eyes!

DAVE SAG’S BLUES PARTY WITH SPECIAL GUEST: Brian David Templeton, William Loosigian & Dave Mattacks @ The Rhumb Line 8:30 to 11:30

dave sag rl mo

It’s He-Man Week™ as I drag in the limb-crunching behemoth of the blues: Mr. Brian Templeton. Last time he was here, severe shock and awe erupted on the dance floor and mere mortals (not you) quivered with trepidation at what might happen to their booty whilst under his spell. He’s a really big guy, physically and tonally. Makes me look like Barney Fife. He’s really a great frontman, singer and harpist, and a joy to work with. He’s bringing along Mr. Billy Loosigian, rocket-propelled guitarist and veteran of many an ear-exploding night on this same stage. He’ll be the one in the red cape. Range-finding co-ordinates supplied by the atomic clock, Mr. Dave Mattacks. I’ll be on base. hours: 8:30 till11:30, and, no, we’re not changing them anymore for the winter.

Dennis Brennan this Thursday night @ The Dave Sag’s Blues Party…The Rhumb Line 8:30pm 10.16.2014

dave sag rl 4.3.2014

OK, kids, time to put your vibrating font of perpetual solipsism* away and pay attention to this: Dennis Brennan is coming to town.Yes, yes, when it comes to naked emotions it helps to have D around to befriend our eardrums and try to make a whole lotta sense with our paltry lives. Possibly the area’s most important raw mineral. And he’s breaking it up a little bit by using some other cats than we’re used to hearing.
Firstly, there’s Steve Sadler ,gourmand guitarist and everybody’s favorite studio cat. Knows Dennis’ every move from other gigs. And Forrest “Frosty” Padgett, who’s a big fave around here, on the eggbeaters. And me, too. I’m Dave Sag, and I approve this message.

This week let’s welcome back the Kielbasa King of Woosta: Mr. Mike O’Connell. We’re gonna have some fun, Bwana, channelling the 3 Stooges and playing our arses off to please you, the viewer. We’re calling in a hazmat crew this week to clean up the mess that’s gonna be created out of the arrival of that famous Tootin’ Torquemada of the Tenor: Mr. Andrew Clark. This guy really knows how to do it. He sings, he chortles, he squeaks out the most amazing renditions of vintage R&B with his own battery of weapons of mass deconstruction. You’ll see. This coming on the heels of the most amazing night last week when the Three Stooges of the Blues poked my eyes out . What a night!

1968: Howard Marston, Jr. (a.k.a. “Chicklet”) seated with his parents in
resistance to the SSS and the U.S. involvement in Viet Nam.
When I first met Chick Marston, I was a young teenager.
My friends had told me I had to “see this guy play guitar”.
A gang of us rode in Jon Pope’s van to his house in Rockport.
Pope wanted to sell him a gorgeous metal-flake blue Fender
Stratocaster. Only thing was, Chick had never touched an
electric guitar in his entire life! I watched while he fumbled
all over the thing and wondered what all the hoopla was about.
But it wasn’t long after that I got to hear him play his nineteen
thirty-something Martin and simply sat in awe. And, soon after
that, he was making national news, courageously refusing
induction into the Army and its gross, immoral war – his beloved
and highly intelligent father and mother by his side all the way.
He was my hero. Our hero. I wonder how many local residents
know about this little chunk of American History. You want an
interesting read? Check the link below this paragraph. But
meanwhile, it is my honor to have “Chicklet” Marston as musical
guest at the Rhumb Line this Wednesday night. We have a total
blast every single time we play together. I see no reason for that
to change now… not after all these years. ~ Fly
