Sista’s Helpful Tips
Many years ago this product was highly recommended to me by a friend. She promised that Williams-Sonoma’s Turkey Gravy Base was the biggest time saver and smartest money spent on thanksgiving dinner for her family each year. I was extremely hesitant to try it because nearly everything prepared in my kitchen is done from scratch, but knowing she too was a great cook, I thought I give it a try. Two weeks before Thanksgiving I went to Williams-Sonoma bought a jar of their Turkey Gravy Base, then headed to the market, purchased a small turkey breast, and headed home to test the product out before committing to using it on Thanksgiving day. I followed the simple directions on the backside of the jar. It smelled good, looked great, and it tasted awesome! I was shocked by the flavor and by how easy it was to prepare. Don’t walk RUN to Williams-Sonoma and buy this product! If you’re cooking Thanksgiving dinner this year, this product should be the first item on your Grocery list. The Gravy Base is a seasonal item sold in limited quantities, and they sell out days before Thanksgiving every year. I encourage you to stock up and buy a few extra jars for latter in the winter when your craving turkey and gravy on a cold winter night.

Green Family Thanksgiving Dinner
We had a very nice meal – just my parents and I, as my brother was with his in-laws. The menu also included pumpkin pie, and a few other treats that didn’t make it into this photo. We have leftovers to last us for a while!

NB4T, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, What’s next?
Why it’s TB4NB4T of course! Translation: Tuesday Before the Night Before Thanksgiving. Yup, that’s today and there’s plenty happening tonight too. Check it out here. Most music venues in Gloucester offer special entertainment for tomorrow, sometimes referred to as Homecoming or NB4T (you can decipher this based on the translation, above). Now, maybe I’m old, but when I was a kid, none of this existed. It was just plain Thanksgiving. I don’t ever remember shopping the next day. I did go to the parade in NYC a couple of times (people called it the Macy’s Day Parade). There was no Internet, so no Cyber Monday. And the day before was spent cooking or travelling or both. We sang Over the river and through the woods (the Thanksgiving version, not Christmas).

What’s A Lobster Dealer Eat For Thanksgiving?

The folks that read the blog know that we spent Thanksgiving in NYC.
After the Macy Thanksgiving Day Parade and watching the Pats we went out to a great restaurant in Chelsea – COOKSHOP.
Now I don’t know about you but if you are going to give me an option to eat lobster over turkey I’ll take lobster 100 times out of 100. COOKSHOP offered a multi-course prix fixe menu.
Here is my first course, the roasted lobster salad. Avocado, cilantro,red onion, lobster and roasted chili sauce. It was RE-DIC-U-LOUS!
The main course was Beef Short Ribs. Man o man. It was great. Loved eating out and being able to enjoy each other’s company instead of the mass hysteria that can be associated with huge Holiday meals. I vote that we eat out every thanksgiving!

Open Door Food Pantry–It’s A Good Thing!
So yesterday, Lily and I went to the Open Door Food Pantry to shoot an episode of Inspired Cooking which will air next week and probably for a couple of weeks. The show was about fun and easy ideas to use your holiday leftovers in a cost effective manner because I feel that throwing away food is like flushing money down the drain–and I don’t want to do it!
Anyway, Julie LaFontaine, the Executive Director of the Open Door, Lily and I had a great time doing the show, the food came out delicious and a good time was had by all. The point of this is that there are lots of families on Cape Ann that need our help. Families have been hit hard in this economy and donating a holiday dinner to a needy family is the right thing to do if you can afford to help out.
