Solo exhibition featuring Robert J. Anderson (1934-2016) is opening this weekend at Jane Deering Gallery with a Reception Sept. 30 from 4-6pm. This show delves into his pursuits in drawing.

“I’m excited about this upcoming show.  My thanks to Meredith Anderson (daughter of Robert J. Anderson) and Peg Anderson (widow of Robert J Anderson) for their expertise and passion in organizing this exhibit.”

Jane Deering gallery is pleased to present Amy Solomon’s paintings on paper and mixed media on wood in a solo show titled Magic and Offerings opening April 28th, 2023, with a Reception with the artist on Sunday April 30th from 3-5pm. Solomon speaks about her work on paper as daily meditations in paint

“These works are made with paints, medium and inks applied to the paper with marks, dots and drips. Over the past two years this has become my form of personal daily meditation practice: a way to connect with myself through the materials. What is in this gallery are remnants of the search and process. A shadow from a dance,” and her work in mixed media on wood as frozen disintegrations. “Again, what interests me is the power contained in the materials. Objects, colors and textures come together as a visual poem.”

Amy Solomon

Amy Solomon holds a BFA in Painting from Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Her work is in collections in the United States, Greece, and Switzerland.

Joy! Joy Halsted | what I’ve been doing in the time of …. (covid) opening November 13th Jane Deering Gallery . 19 Pleasant Street . Gloucester, MA. 

‘There is no artist on earth like Joy Halsted,’ wrote Pat Lowery Collins in her 2015 interview with the artist. The multi-faceted Halsted is an inventive, provocative, irreverent, playful, politically-aware, and process-oriented artist.  And what has Joy Halsted been doing these many months since life and Covid-19 locked her and all of us indoors?  Using process once again to compulsively knit. To knit hats with corona pompoms attached at the top.  Anti-corona hats, as Joy nicknames them.  

‘Humor is our saving grace,’ she writes. ‘The atmosphere is serious; we’re all feeling a bit lost. As an artist, I felt the need to raise spirits; to offer a new perspective.’
