BIRD CALLS PUNCTUATE THE AIR WHILE THE HUM OF A bee provides a soothing song. Only the train whistle permeates the serenity of Ravenswood Park, much the way it must have done for the “Hermit of Gloucester” a century ago. Mason Walton — the Hermit — hardly needed the distant reminder of another world. The world came to him……

My friend went to take a sip of beer at Elliot’s Friday night. Just in time for Valentine’s Day! An omen??

Think they’re ready for a gig at the Dog Bar??

The fog was just lifting that day. I was driving back to work. I grabbed my camera and watched the picture-perfect scene unfold. I like the rippled reflections on the water.

It’s pretty cold out there! Another 6 weeks of winter…lots of hot chocolate and s’mores! If you feeling a little cabin-fevered, here are a few things to do around town.

Nothing in this photo looks like it belongs in the 21st century. Actually it was taken in 2001. I was told that the truck is still on the road.

Nine years ago today, my dad, Ed “Pee Wee” Lowe, passed away. He was a Gloucester firefighter when all the wharf fires and huge hotel fires happened. He was small, yet feisty. He had a love/hate relationship with the Red Sox, collected everything, owned the Hesperus Bottle Shop in Magnolia, and beat me in every single pingpong game we ever played. The old firemen remember him. One cool guy. This was one of his favorite prints. Sure do miss him.  —-Sharon

Adam, this week’s winner, wrote “I grew up on and in Walker Creek and kind of know it like the back of my hand. I recognized the short dock right away, but it’s always funny how a telephoto pulls in the background. It took me a little while to convince myself.” He does gorgeous photography at Tragabigzanda.
He wins a gift certificate from Audrey’s Flower Shop. A big thank you to Heather Peterson! Congratulations, Adam!
For those of you who don’t know where Walker Creek is, it’s at the corner of Sumner and Concord Streets in W. Gloucester. Nice bike ride if you can handle the hills. And remember your camera!
