This is the view of Old Harbor from the top floor event/intermission area. One can go up there to eat and sip a glass of wine before the concert and during the intermission.
Here’s the view from our seats, and a wonderful performance by the Rockport High School Madrigal Choir. Seated nearby was Fr. Matthew Green, who has charmed us at holiday events singing Gregorian Chants. Rockport Music – Rockport, Massachusetts
On Friday evening I went to Rockport for the (amazing) concert by “What Time Is It Mr. Fox?” and the Rockport High School Madrigal Choir at the Shalin Liu center. Here are a few photos I snapped with my phone to try to capture some of the magic.

Vieaux’s concert is part of its 2012-13 new Guitar Series. The evening will traverse the Baroque period with Bach’s Lute Suite No. 1 in E Minor, which Vieaux will play on guitar; the 19th century with Giuliani’s Grand Overture, Op. 61, as well as Albéniz’ Sevilla (arranged by Vieaux); the 20th century with Benjamin Britten’s reflection on Dowland’s music (Nocturnal after John Dowland), Antônio Carlos Jobim’s A Felicidade, José Luis Merlín’s Suite del Recuerdo, and Vieaux’s arrangement of Pat Metheny’s The Bat; and the 21st century with the Massachusetts premiere of Dan Visconti’s Devil’s Strum, written for Vieaux in 2010.

Dear Friends,
Thanks to an introduction made by John McElhenny of Matter Communications, Francie and I were interviewed yesterday by Andrea Shea of NPR affiliate WBUR. The interview will be broadcast this afternoon about 3:50 on the show Radio Boston and may be on All Things Considered later. We will be discussing tonight’s 7:30 concert at Shalin Liu Performance Center in Rockport celebrating the completion of the harpsichord I’ve been working on for 25 years.
As John McElheny says, “Nice to see such a positive Gloucester story in the news. Congratulations, Greg and Francie!”
Our friend Henri Smith just posted a recording of his band performing Just a Closer Walk with Thee at the First Parish Church in Manchester on May 6 that raised money for The Grace Center in Gloucester. This is one more example of Henri’s versatile voice and his almost magical ability to inspire a crowd. Listen the the song here. It’s an unusually good week for music on Cape Ann and it starts early. In this video, her husband and gimmesound co-artist of the week, Greg Bover, takes us under the hood (literally — he takes off the jackrail to reveal plectra and then shows us how they pluck the strings).
You won’t see the plectra Next Tuesday, May 15, but you should go to Shalin Liu at 7:30pm anyhow to hear his masterpiece played in one of the most perfect acoustic settings on Earth — and it’s right down the street — and it’s FREE.

Today we have a special treat as Frances Fitch show us some Harpsichord music written in the 1650s and then plays it for us. You can hear the entire piece next Tuesday night.

It’s how long it took master craftsman Greg Bover to build a harpsichord for his equally talented wife Frances Fitch, who plays it magnificently in this video. Frances & Greg are the gimmesound artists of the week and all week long we’ll have videos featuring Frances, Greg and this extraordinary instrument.
Next Tuesday, May 15, you can see Frances play this masterpiece live at Shalin Liu — and Greg will talk about the process of building it over the past 25 years. Just in case you’re not convinced it’s where you want to be next Tuesday, think about this: Shalin Liu was built specifically for instruments like this. No mics, no amps, just perfect acoustics. Justin Piper’s wife was in labor so Miranda called Inge at about 4pm to ask if he could sit in. Inge was excellent with some great solos, which proves just how versatile he is (in case anyone ever doubted). See Inge’s new hit video here. Very different style indeed!

Last night Chelsea Berry recorded her next CD, which will be released on January 27 when she headlines Shalin Liu. It was a magical evening. About 50 close friends and adoring fans participated in the recording as Chelsea took us all to a place we have never been before!
