Video- Dolphins Swimming off Cape Ann

Pat Emanuele Submits-

Tuesday afternoon as I was leaving Rockport Harbor to head back to the Annisquam River I noticed some chop off in the distance. Assuming it was fish jumping I drove over only to find a large pod of at least one hundred dolphins swimming between Rockport Harbor and the break water.

A Tale of Two Sunrises

A Tale of Two Sunrises

Mr. Paul Morrison informed me I wasn’t the only one up at 5:57am Saturday 09/10/11

Hmm!’ 9 /10/ 11? Does that have any meaning on the Mayan Calendar?

I was parked on Nautilus Rd. taking pictures of this beautiful show

(which there  are so many on this island)

And drawing an “Art, Rock!”

Mr. Morrison was on the other side of the Island on Andrews point taking pictures and probably trying to catch some more of his Wifes deliscious Bluefish Pate’ with his trusted companion R Duck.

I don’t know who’s crazier, Me with my Rocks or Mr. Morrison with his Rubber Duck.

Here are the Photos we took within a minute of each other that morning.

Top Dog, Dog

I think Top Dog is becoming my favorite place for fried clams on Cape Ann. Their fried clams are very light, crispy and flavorful, the dogs are awesome too. It’s a great place for yummy summer food, people watching and taking a break from Bear Skin Neck shopping.

New Pizza Place in Rockport Takes it To Another Level

Rockport is blessed with so much: several beautiful beaches, a vibrant arts community, historic wharves & buildings, lobstering industry…you could go on and on. And now, you can add the Atlantic Pizza Company to our list of blessings. Housed in the architecturally compelling former Al Ruben Gallery, the Atlantic Pizza Company was created, like its pizza, from scratch. Audra Dainora, the owner of the business, bought the building in April 2010. She proceeded to spend the summer season watching traffic patterns and chatting with visitors to Rockport when she noticed that so many questions from tourists had to do with finding somewhere to eat, especially somewhere casual. Audra saw the opportunity to fill a niche in the community, offering fresh pizza with the best ingredients: organic tomatoes and toppings that are sourced from local farms whenever possible. Together with Dan Cromidas, who helped with the conception and development of the pizza and can now be found working his magic in the kitchen, Audra brought the Atlantic Pizza Company to Rockport. Reading through the menu is a mouth-watering proposition, and I can attest to the fact that the Margherita Pizza was delicious, the thin crust crisp on the outside, perfectly chewy on the inside, while the basil and mozzarella and tomato competing for freshness. (Full disclosure: I also tasted the cheese pizza, which features an amazing mozzarella, unlike any I’ve ever tasted.) But it should be said: it’s not all about the pizza at this restaurant. The building itself lives up to the food. Audra hired the design firm Siemasko & Verbridge, based in Beverly with John Harden as the project’s architect, to take advantage of the building’s pitched roof and, as it was built in 1961, take it back to its mid-century glory: a combination of minimalism and New England rusticity. Which is like the best of Rockport itself: quintessential New England with a dose of high design.

So make your way down to Bearskin Neck and stop by Atlantic Pizza just as soon as you can. You can work your way down the menu with a few breaks in between for a swim at Front Beach and a stroll through the shops and galleries of downtown Rockport. Summer perfection.

7th Wave Restaurant Review From A Completely Impartial Kim Smith

Sunday night my husband and I tried a new restaurant (new for us, that is), the 7th Wave in Rockport on Tuna Wharf. Our son Alex is cooking there this summer. The hostess was lovely and Talia, one of the owners, greeted us at the front desk. We had made a reservation for 7:00 and were seated immediately on the upper deck, with the stunning view of Rockport Harbor and beyond.

The atmosphere is lively, relaxed, and entirely kid-and family-friendly. The waitstaff was hardworking and alot of fun and our food came along very quickly, no waiting for anything, despite the fact that it was a full house.

7thwave2

Our son was working the grill, so we restricted ourselves to grilled items only. I had the surf (super delicious grilled shrimp) and turf (petite filet, cooked to perfection) and Tom, the fantastic grilled tuna. I am usually more of a chowder and lobster person and can’t wait to go again and try more items on the menu. The lobster rolls and lobster salads passing by our table were heaped high with lobster meat and the chowder looked creamy and hearty. Elaine, mother of Talia, and owner, stopped by our table to say hello and to chat. It’s a family-owned business and the restaurant is named the 7th Wave because of their seven family members. The Kahn family opened their doors in June 2009 and they had their busiest night ever, the Saturday night before we ate dinner there. It was great to hear about their thriving business and we are looking forward to many return visits! The menu and hours of operation are posted on their website. 7th Wave Restaurant, 7 Tuna Wharf, Rockport.

“Art, Rocks!” Better Late Than Never! Rockport 09/04/2010

“Art, Rocks!”

Better Late Than Never!

I received an email a few weeks ago from a 10 year old boy who when he was nine years old at the time he found one of my “Art,Rocks!” a Rock that I left at T-Wharf in Rockport on 09/04/2010. I think that was about 9 months ago.  I remember leaving it there after having a cup of coffee and watching the Lobstermen get ready for their day. About 5am.  I always wonder about the ones I leave that don’t get reported back to the email I leave on them. Currently the last three that I’ve left in the past two weeks that I never gave notice on GMG Have not been reported back. Which is fine. In this world we live in now, maybe people think there is a catch too this thing. Maybe they think I want money for it. Emails like Coopers who found it is payment enough! I will never ask anything for them. An email would be nice but, If I don’t get a response that’s fine too! Mystery and fantasy is what makes life! isn’t  it?

Here’s the email from Cooper and Photos of the “Art, Rock!” He found! Who could ask for anything more?!!!! Thanks Cooper!

Am I a little weird? Maybe! 🙂

from Cooper;

Dear mr or mrs frontiero. I picked up one of your pictures of the motif in a parking lot in rockport on 9-4-2010. I am very sorry not to get back to you sooner. I am a 10 year old boy and I’m in fourth grade at st johns in Beverly Massachusetts . I picked it up when i was nine with my aunt and little sister delaney who is now 6. That is my lucky rock because that day I won a contest at bearskin neck country store. You are a beautiful artist. Sincerely , Cooper

These folks are enjoying Front Beach in the latest beach attire. Observatory Point sits in the distance on the right. The Rockport fire house is on the left, with its hose drying tower. It wasn’t until after 1819 that water buckets were replaced by a great improvement in fire-fighting equipment – the cotton hose. After use, the hoses needed to dry, and this took place in a 50 to 60 foot tower. Often, a fire bell was hung in the top of the tower.

Playing with our new camera we had to try the tilt shift effect and I think it works pretty well!  The camera is the Canon SX230hs. We purchased it from Camera Corner in Rockport, which has all the latest Canon and Nikon models.
