Poll- Has Political Correctness In This Day and Age Gone Too Far?

Posted on October 9, 2012 by Joey C

Have we as a society gone soft?

Coaches getting punished for making kids run,

Mothers getting arrested for letting kids play outside,

High School Basketball coaches getting fired for swearing in the locker room,

High School Boards Trying to eliminate Football because it’s too dangerous,

High schools banning kids from telling other kids they got into Ivy League colleges so they don’t hurt other people’s feelings,

Teachers getting fired for writing out of frustration,

Nursury Rhymes being changed to not offend, the list goes on and on and on.

People in everyday life acting as if they were running for office or were in some corporate job 24/7 campaigning for a raise.   Everything is supposed to be vanilla, no one is supposed to raise their voice, we’ve literally handcuffed the poor teachers from disciplining students, everyone gets a trophy, eliminating MVP awards to not make anyone feel inferior.

For Christs sake when does it end?  Are we creating a nation of weak, dry, humorless politically correct robots?

What would our Grandfathers say about all this?  Probably just shake their heads in disgust.

Here are the results-

Thank goodness for the results of this poll.  It restores a little bit of faith in the sanity of the populace.

Update: On October 3rd I posted a poll about the local economy. The GDT follows up today

Poll- U.S. unemployment has remained above 8% for 43 months but do you feel like the local economy is in the crapper?

Posted on October 3, 2012 by Joey C

I don’t have any friends that are without a job.  All of the restaurants we service are having great years and have told me that over the past 5 years things have gotten progressively better.  The malls are always packed.

I don’t see a ton of for sale signs around town on houses like you normally do when housing goes to shit.

So I ask you, do you feel like the economy is horrible based on what you see around you?  I’m not talking about the national 8% number I’m talking you personally?  Do you feel like the economy around you is horrible?

Today the Gloucester Daily Times has an article fleshing out the actual local numbers-

October 9, 2012

Jobless rate for city dips to 6.1%

By Times Staff Gloucester Daily Times

Gloucester’s unemployment rate, holding steady throughout the summer above the 6-percent mark, inched back down to 6.1 percent in August from a 6.2-percent figure in July, according to the latest city and town jobless statistics from the state’s Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development.

And the tenth-of-a-point decrease this time comes with supporting figures showing that more people landed local jobs in August amid a growing summer workforce — with 250 more people working in August of this year, than had been in August 2011, when the city’s jobless rate was pegged at 7.4 percent.

Poll Results- Would You Pay If Your Local Online Newspaper Charged

I ran this post and poll back on February 2nd.  here are the results.

In light of the new iPad newspaper “The Daily” which just launched and is charging for it’s content I wonder how many of you would ever consider paying for your local newspaper’s online content if they decided to do away with free content and went to a subscription based website.

Local newspapers cover news such as tax issues, zoning, and political races and if they didn’t exist where you would get that information?

I can tell you that even though many people tell me they check out GMG before they check out the GDT, we don’t come close to covering the important stories that keep politicians honest and I have no intention to ever try to.

God bless the remaining newspaper people that still labor to bring us the important stories even though they have to endure pay cuts and layoffs. Newspapers are vital to our way of life. I hope they can figure out a way to keep on keepin on.

    Here are the results-
