What Time is it, Mr. Fox?’ August 22nd at 6:00pm



Music on Meetinghouse Green presents ‘What Time is it, Mr. Fox?’ at 6:00pm on Friday, August 22nd performing on the stage overlooking Meetinghouse Green in front of the UU Church. Well known in Boston’s underground cabaret scene, ‘What Time Is It Mr. Fox?’ has earned a loyal following with frequent performances in New York City and tours across the United States. Their original songs feature rich lyrical imagery that explore love, spirituality, sexuality, and identity, and their performances are infused with energy, honesty, and emotional authenticity.

Their unique brand of music and performance art has been adopted by popular singers, filmmakers, and repertory theaters. Band members include: Brian King, voice, piano, and acoustic guitar; Nathan Cohen, violin, trumpet, voice; Dennis Monagle, drums; Renee Dupuis, voice, keys, and melodica; and Joe Cardoza, upright bass.

Your free-will donations will benefit Action, Inc. Action Inc. is a safety net for our community, offering a broad range of supportive services, including: fuel assistance and energy efficiency programs, case management, housing assistance and homelessness prevention, job training and education, and affordable housing. They are always ready to provide support when people need it most. Please bring extra cash for when the buckets are passed around! Crepes du Jour will be the food service for the evening serving up delicious sweet and savory crepes for all to enjoy!

Music on Meetinghouse Green presents a free, outdoor concert at 6:00pm featuring ‘What Time is it, Mr. Fox?’on September 1 in front of the UU Church at the corner of Middle and Church Streets. Free-will donations from the audience will benefit the Northshore Health Project. The Lobster Roller is the food vendor. This concert was postponed from August 4 due to heavy rain.

MUSIC ON MEETINGHOUSE GREEN KICKS OFF EIGHTH SEASON WITH JOHN BABOIAN ENSEMBLE FRIDAY, JULY 7 AT 6:00
The eighth season of Music on Meetinghouse Green returns with a performance by the John Baboian Ensemble in a free Friday evening concert at the corner of Middle and Church Streets, July 7 at 6:00 p.m.

Free-will donations will support the concert’s featured local non-profit partner Pathways for Children. Pathways for Children nurtures children and supports families impacted by economic and social inequity through programs that educate, enrich, empower, and motivate. The evening’s food vendor is the Causeway offering up their popular seafood favorites.

The concert features the John Baboian Ensemble with vocalist Sandi Bedrosian. Bedrosian is well known as a lead vocalist and director in a wide range of musical styles and has opened for some of today’s hottest stars. She has performed coast to coast and throughout Europe and her repertoire includes musical productions, theater, and opera.

Well known as an accomplished guitarist and composer in jazz and swing circles, John Baboian is equally at home in the classical, blues, rock, R&B, Latin, and world music traditions. He has performed all over the world and has shared the stage with a who’s who of music industry legends. His work has been featured on a number of popular television series and more than 20 recordings. As an educator for more than 40 years, Baboian has inspired and trained a generation of aspiring musicians. An audience favorite, Baboian and his ensemble, several of whom are fellow faculty members from the Berklee College of Music, have traditionally opened the Music on Meetinghouse Green series.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Now entering its eighth season, Music on Meetinghouse Green features nine free Friday evening concerts from July 7 to September 8. Performances are held on the Green and feature great music, favorite foods from local vendors, and a different North Shore non-profit organization featured each week through free-will donations from the audience. Concerts begin at 6:00 p.m. and conclude at 8:30 p.m. Some chairs will be provided and audience members are welcome to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets. Picnic with delicious local food from our vendors or bring your own. Performances are handicapped accessible and parking on the Green is limited to persons with disabilities.

ABOUT THE GLOUCESTER MEETINGHOUSE FOUNDATION
Founded in 2015, the Gloucester Meetinghouse Foundation is dedicated to preserving the landmark building as a civic hub, entertainment venue, and community center, offering family-friendly programming not available elsewhere on Cape Ann for the enjoyment of the whole community. In addition to its work to preserve the historic 1806 Meetinghouse, GMF is currently raising funds to restore Meetinghouse Green. The GMF has received a $130,000 grant from the Community Preservation Act and a $2,000 grant from the Essex Heritage Partnership Grant Program towards a total project goal of $340,000. Construction is scheduled to begin in fall 2023.

Willie Alexander, punk music legend, musical innovator, and artistic icon, returns to Music on Meetinghouse Green with his band
for a rocking evening at the corner of Middle and Church Streets at 6:00 p.m.

The stars come out on Meetinghouse Green as Gloucester’s Willie ‘Loco’ Alexander shares his legendary talent as a singer, songwriter
and keyboardist. With his roots in Boston’s punk rock scene of the 70’s and 80’s, Willie’s musical career has flourished for more than 50 years.
Whether as a band member with the Lost, Bagatelle, Grass Menagerie and the post-Lou Reed Velvet Underground, or as front man for his own
series of bands, Willie’s enduring popularity is a reflection of his unique musical voice and artistic vision. A true artist, Willie has expanded his
work to other mediums including soundtracks for local filmmaker Henry Ferrini, collage and painting.

Your free-will donations will benefit the Grace Center, a day resource center for men and women offering a safe and supportive environment
in Gloucester, Salem and Beverly. The evening’s food vendor is Crepes du Jour with freshly made sweet and savory crepes.

JAZZ SINGER RHIANNON HURST PERFORMS AT MUSIC ON MEETINGHOUSE GREEN ON FRIDAY, JULY 29
An award-winning local jazz vocalist and rising star, Rhiannon teams up with a great quartet for another unforgettable free Friday evening
concert at the corner of Middle and Church Streets at 6:00 p.m.

Even before she graduated high school, Rockport native Rhiannon Hurst was winning awards at regional, national, and international competitions
and earning some serious respect in the jazz world. Her talent has been described as, “integrating her innate ability and skills into an emerging musical
personality.” As a high school sophomore, Rhiannon won 2nd place in the Berklee International High School Jazz Singer’s Showcase. She was one of four
graduating seniors to receive the Excellence in Music Award from the Massachusetts Music Educators Association.

Rhiannon was the recipient of a prestigious 2021 National YoungArts Foundation (YoungArts) award in jazz voice for her caliber of artistic achievement. She
joins 659 of the nation’s young visual, literary, and performing artists in opportunities for collaboration, professional development, fellowships, residencies,
and awards. Now a much sought after performer, Rhiannon’s professional engagements range from local favorite restaurants to Boston’s Symphony Hall and
the State Room.

Your free-will donations will support the concert’s featured local non-profit partner The Open Door – alleviating the impact of hunger in our community
by connecting people to good food, advocating on behalf of those in need, and engaging others in the work of building food security. The evening’s food

JOHN BABOIAN ENSEMBLE PERFORMS FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 3 AT MUSIC ON MEETINGHOUSE GREEN

The Gloucester Meetinghouse Foundation presents the John Baboian Ensemble in a free Friday evening concert
on Meetinghouse Green at the corner of Middle and Church Street, September 3 at 6:00 p.m.

With deep roots in the ‘Bop’ tradition, the John Baboian Ensemble consistently wows audiences on Cape Ann. The
Ensemble has played as the opening act at Music on Meetinghouse Green since the very first concert. This summer’s
hot and wet weather delayed this popular band’s opening, but they are looking forward to playing at Meetinghouse Green
at the beginning of September. The performers are accomplished musicians, mostly all faculty members of Berklee College
of Music. They have played and taught all over the world, from Europe, to Africa, to Asia, and all over the North American
continent. Their music includes Jazz and Swing Standards, with repertoire from “The Great American Songbook”.

Free-will donations go to the evening’s featured local non-profit partner, Pathways for Children, a local organization nurturing
children and families suffering economic and social inequity, through educational programs that enrich, empower, and motivate.
Fresh food will be available from Endless Flavors Square Pizza. The 2021 summer music series is dedicated in memory of Harry Hintlian

CONCERT DESCRIPTION

The John Baboian Ensemble have been playing together since 1990, developing a steady following of fans that enjoy guitar-oriented
Jazz and American Standards. They have recorded several CDs that will be available for sale. This year the band will feature John on guitar,
and vocalist, Sandi Bedrosian. Other band members include Danny Harrington on baritone sax, Jeff Stout on trumpet, Gloucester native
Dave Landoni on bass, and Larry Finn on drums.

EZEKIEL’S WHEELS PERFORMS FRIDAY AUGUST 20 AT MUSIC ON MEETINGHOUSE GREEN
The Gloucester Meetinghouse Foundation presents Ezekiel’s Wheels in a free Friday evening concert on Meetinghouse Green at the corner of Middle and Church Street, August 20 at 6:00 p.m.

Boston’s Ezekiel’s Wheels Klezmer Band has been captivating audiences around the world with their passionate virtuosity and contagious energy. Klezmer music has the familiarity of chamber music and the force of rowdy dance band music. Ezekiel’s Wheels’ contemporary spin on Jewish music enthralls audiences from elementary school students to the judges at the International Jewish Music Festival, who described them as ‘a true musical democracy’.

Free-will donations go to the evening’s featured local non-profit partner, the Grace Center, a day resource center for men and women in need of a safe and supportive environment in Gloucester, Salem and Beverly. Fresh pizza will be available from a local food vendor.

CONCERT DESCRIPTION
Ezekiel’s Wheels honed their craft in Boston’s farmer’s markets and subways stations, where the informal settings created ideal opportunities for musical experimentation. They succeeded in building up a community of fans and friends across the city. They have since fine-tuned their skills, and have performed at the Shalin Liu Performance Center, the Kennedy Center and at Yidstock. In 2017 they expanded their repertoire to include songs in Yiddish and English. Ezekiel’s Wheels features Jonathan Cannon (violin), Kirsten Lamb (double bass, lead vocals), Nat Seelen (clarinet), Pete Fanelli (trombone), and Abbie Reisman (violin, backing vocals), who sadly is not available to play at this concert.

Mari Martin on the Meetinghouse Green

The Gloucester Meetinghouse Foundation presents Mari Martin in a free Friday evening concert on Meetinghouse Green at the corner of Middle and Church Street, August 13 at 6:00 p.m. Mari Martin has been enthralling audiences from Cape Ann to Santa Barbara with her compelling voice and signature stage presence for over 25 years. Her influences and songs range from the Beatles to Stevie Wonder, the Rolling Stones to Billie Holiday. Add a dash or two of Bonnie Raitt, Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald and Eric Clapton and you can hear her musical versatility.

Free-will donations go to the evening’s featured local non-profit partner, HAWC, a group committed to ending the domestic violence epidemic, educating the community, and offering help for abused women, children, and men in Massachusetts. Local food vendor for the evening is Jalapenos. The GODDESSES PERFORMS FRIDAY JULY 30 AT MUSIC ON MEETINGHOUSE GREEN
The Gloucester Meetinghouse Foundation presents The Goddesses in a free Friday evening concert on Meetinghouse Green at the corner of Middle and Church Street, July 30 at 6:00 p.m. The Goddesses are a five-piece rock and roll, rhythm and blues band playing songs that make you want to sing along or dance along, or both. For the past five years, Samantha (vocals) and Tony Goddess (guitar), alongside Dave Sag (bass), Steve Chaggaris (drums), and John Cameron (keys) have been serving up the songs you love from the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s. Free-will donations go to the evening’s featured local non-profit partner, The Open Door, a group that works to alleviate the impact of hunger in our community, connecting people to good food. CONCERT DESCRIPTION
The Goddesses hail from our local club scene, including the Orville Giddings Band. The band finds inspiration from 50‘s artists such as The Coasters, Chuck Berry, Huey ‘Piano’ Smith, and Buddy Holly. Musical inspiration also comes from 70’s sounds such as The Dwight Twilley Band and NRBQ.

Music on Meetinghouse Green, now in its sixth season, features nine free Friday evening concerts with great music, favorite foods from local vendors, and benefits a different North Shore non-profit organization each week through free-will donations from the audience. Concert goers bring lawn chairs and blankets to spread out across the spacious green. Performances are handicap accessible, parking on the Green is limited to persons with disabilities only.

Founded in 2015, the Gloucester Meetinghouse Foundation is dedicated to preserving the landmark building as a civic hub, entertainment venue, and community center. In addition to its work to preserve the historic 1806 Meetinghouse, GMF is currently raising funds to restore Meetinghouse Green to provide a safe and more flexible outdoor concert and event venue.

DEB HARDY ROCKS WITH RHYTHM AND ROOTS
August 23 free concert on Meetinghouse Green

 Cape Ann based Deb Hardy Band will rock Meetinghouse Green on Friday, August 23, from 6.00 PM to 8.30 PM, at the eighth free concert of the Gloucester Meetinghouse Foundation’s legendary summer concert series.

 Deb Hardy’s musicianship reflects the drama, beauty and serenity of our ocean community. Her unique style of singing and guitar playing has been described as ‘rhythmic, expressive and powerful’. Hardy and her band, including musicians, Greg Verga, Arnie Rosen, and Marc Lorah, perform rhythm and roots songs that will have concert-goers on their feet. Their high energy alternative rock, folk, blues, soul, and classical music will appeal to the most discriminating music lovers. You will hear influences as wide-ranging as Kate Bush, Yes, and Led Zeppelin.

 Each week Music on Meetinghouse Green partners with a different non-profit organization to raise awareness for the services they provide to the local community. At the August 23 concert, the audience is invited to contribute a freewill donation to the Gloucester Education Foundation, a non-profit organization that creates and expands opportunities for students and teachers of the Gloucester Public School District.  Gloucester-based restaurant Jalapeno’s will provide delicious Mexican fresh food for concert-goers.

 The Gloucester Meetinghouse, home of the Unitarian Universalist Church, is located at the corner of Church and Middle Streets. The concert is handicapped accessible. Event parking is available on the green and at additional parking lots nearby in the Historic District. Folding chairs will be provided or bring your own beach chair or blanket. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be held inside the Meetinghouse.

JOHN BABOIAN ENSEMBLE KICKS OFF FREE FRIDAY CONCERT SERIES
July 5 concert of jazz and swing marks the fourth season of Music on Meetinghouse Green

The John Baboian Ensemble launches the fourth season of free Friday evening concerts on Meetinghouse Green at the corner of Church and Middle Streets on July 5, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. Baboian’s ensemble offers up a rocking evening of jazz standards and selections from the Great American Songbook.

 Renowned guitarist Baboian teams up with fellow Berklee College of Music faculty members Jeff Stout on trumpet and Danny Harrington on baritone sax. The trio is joined by Gloucester native Dave Landoni on bass and George Farrell on drums. Acclaimed singer Sandi Bedrosian offers the vocals.

Baboian’s career as a professional musician spans more than four decades and has reached audiences on five continents. Over the years he has shared the spotlight with a “Who’s Who” of musical legends.  While rock, jazz, and swing are his specialties, he is equally at home in classical, blues, R&B, Latin, and world music genres.

 Each week Music on Meetinghouse Green partners with a different non-profit organization to raise awareness for the services they provide to the local community. At the July 5 concert, the audience is invited to contribute to a freewill donation for Pathways for Children with cash, check, or credit card. The food vendor for the concert is The Causeway Restaurant.

MAESTRO OF THE PIPE-ORGAN RETURNS

As Halloween approaches, maestro of the pipe-organ and sonic artist Peter Krasinski returns to the Meetinghouse to accompany the scary silent movie ‘Waxworks.’ As in past years, Peter will perform on the sonorous 1893 Hutchings-Fisk organ to the delight of the audience, young and old. A short film, featuring Douglas Fairbanks, called the ‘Electric House’ will open the show.

HIGHLIGHTS

‘Waxworks’ is a 1924 German horror-fantasy film (Das Wachsfigurenkabinett) directed by Paul Leni. The plot is about a poet hired by the owner of a wax museum in a circus to write tales about Harun al Raschid, Ivan the Terrible and Jack the Ripper. While writing, the poet and the daughter of the owner, Eva, fantasize the fantastic stories and fall in love for each other.  Its a thrilling horror movie for the whole family to enjoy.

FROM GARAGE BAND TO THE BEAT OF ROCK ’N ROLL, WILLIE ALEXANDER AND THE PERSISTENCE OF MEMORY ORCHESTRA ROCK MEETINGHOUSE GREEN, AUGUST 24

 Gloucester-based singer/pianist Willie Alexander plays with his Persistence of Memory Orchestra at the free Gloucester Meetinghouse Summer Concert on Friday, August 24, 6 – 9 pm.

 Alexander has played and raved through more musical eras than most musicians have survived. With deep roots in ‘60s bands such as the Lost and Bagatelle, becoming a member of Lou Reed’s Velvet Underground in 1971, Alexander’s music fuses punk, rock ’n roll, jazz and blues, with hip-hop laced with techno. Together with his Persistence of Memory Orchestra, Alexander will have you hopping and jiving under the fairy lights of Meetinghouse Green. His music is zany, soulful and rocks you out of your chair. Fun for both young and old concert-goers.

 As always, the concert is free but in the spirit of giving to the community, the audience is invited to make free-will donations to the Grace Center, a local day resource center serving adults in crisis in the Cape Ann area. Breakfast and lunch are served to adults in need, Monday to Friday, at the Gloucester Unitarian Universalist Church.

 Bring cash or a checkbook, beach chairs or blankets. Fresh, all-natural food is provided by The Common Crow. In case of rain, the concert will be held inside the Meetinghouse. Parking is available in lots nearby and at St. Peter’s Square.

The public is invited to make free-will donations to the Schooner Adventure.

The family-friendly concerts begin at 6 pm. Bring a picnic, folding chairs or blankets. In case of rain, the events will take place inside the Meetinghouse (no food or drink permitted.)

Three Sheets to the Wind is an old sailing term and refers to a ship whose sheets (lines) have come loose, causing the sails to flap uncontrolled and the ship to shudder and roll (like a staggering drunk) and meander at the mercy of the elements.

Three Sheets to the Wind is also a Gloucester chantey/sea music group. Many of the crew have years of established song and sea history to offer and create a perfect storm of song and good cheer. Their vocals, harmonies and instrument skills are phenomenal, and they have a great time performing and drawing the audience into the fun.
