My View of Life on the Dock

Pinky Schooner Ardelle Enters New Home In Gloucester Harbor For First Time. Filmed By Barbara Luster
From the Schooner Ernestina Blog-
Dear Friends of Ernestina,
Ernestina is scheduled to be launched Thursday about 10 a.m. and Annie, Manny and I are planning to be there. We visited her last week and she is coming along very well and looks beautiful – at least the front half! Save the dates and pass this along to all.
Ernestina Operational Schedule May 5-9, 2009*
12:00PM Arrive in Boston, Rowes Wharf
(Charlestown Navy Yard is the back-up)
12:30PM Arrive Cape Cod Canal
2:30PM Depart Cape Cod Canal
Sunset Arrive off New Bedford
* Schedule subject to change. For safety reasons, the vessel will only travel in a gentle to moderate breeze and not in inclement weather.
The Commission’s Marketing and Special Events subcommittee is working on celebratory/fundraiser events for each stop and as soon as the details are firmed up, I will certainly pass them along.
I am pleased to announce that Leah Jeffries has returned as our Visitors Services Supervisor through September.
If you have any questions please let me know.

Very excited to see that the gates at The Heritage Center were not closed and I could get right down to the end of the pier where the Bluenose II was tied up for these shots. Creak creak creak go the boards in the early morning as you step across with no one else around.

No crowds, no lines, unfettered access. That is my world at 4:50 AM when most people are deep in REM sleep. I need some coffee.

Open gates early in the morning= Joey getting down to the docks to take some shots, SWEET!
Sure you’re gonna see a gazillion pictures taken during the daylight hours of the schooners over the next couple days, but who else is cranking down the deserted docks to get you these kinds of shots in the middle of the night?
If you click the picture and then select “all sizes” you can see this picture full size and with beautiful clarity. The deep rich color of the wood on deck is amazing.
