Little Helen Rose
“Let me tell you a little bit about Helen Rose. Little Helen Rose stands 6′ 1″ and that’s without high heels! You do the math. In the meantime, she’ll sing the songs dipped in the muddy waters of blues, country and soul. I guess that’s what happens when you got a dad who is an actor, and a singer songwriter in his own Wright (pun intended). She grew up on this stuff when she was a tall as her papa’s boots. I met her through 21 year old guitar singer songwriter Jonah Tolchin. Jonah’s got his record coming out called “Clover Lane” and he plays electric on Helen’s record like nobody’s business. They went to school together. Chemistry is there. Me, I produced the album, and I’m damn proud to be a part of her world. She’s 25, and well, the future ain’t what it used to be. Stand back, lean in, she’ll tear your heart out with her voice and horn playing. She is a wonder to behold. After all SHE IS…LITTLE HELEN ROSE” -Marvin Etzioni (Producer, Lone Justice)
Jonah Tolchin: singer, songwriter, guitarist, blues enthusiast, Americana artist.
Listening to the New Jersey native’s latest album, Clover Lane, you would never know that the man wasn’t born and raised in the South. Incorporating folk, country, blues and southern rock into his music, anyone would assume that his veins run with muddy water and whiskey.
No matter where he’s from though, Tolchin brings a fresh sound to the Americana scene. Instead of folk or singer/songwriter vibes, he digs deeper and mixes his love of blues with the badass-ery of Johnny Cash’s outlaw phase. Add that sound to gritty, clever lyrics, and you have Clover Lane.
This Thursday night it’s Dave Sag’s Honky Jive as we welcome back Mr. Chris “Stovall “ Brown to the Rhumb line Stage. With his Eniac-sized super clown-robot pedal board and 12 fingered attack, he’s sure to scramble a few brains without dropping a stitch of laughter

The grand opening for Rusty+Ingrid Creative Company’s new digs in Rockport continues through Sunday. Don’t miss the chance to stop by and see their work in their new studio and gallery. Their prints are vibrant, original, and completely handmade (including the frames). Also, they’re offering popcorn in different flavors. Who knew chocolate-drizzled popcorn was delicious? Not me.
The good news is that if you miss the grand opening, you can just stop by during regular gallery hours, or check them out in Boston at SoWa on Sundays, or find them online (especially their very cool Instagram).
Rusty + Ingrid Creative Company Grand Opening
Having Rusty and Ingrid relocate to Rockport is a great asset to the burgeoning makers and artists’ scene in town, and Rockport is truly lucky to have them right on Main Street. The space is live/work, so the entire family is making Rockport their home — another way they’re investing in the community. More and more downtown Rockport merchants are also Cape Ann residents, which has obvious implications for the level of investment our local merchants make the community. This shift is making a huge difference in town, and good things are happening all over. That is, if summer ever shows up and the MBTA doesn’t shut down the train.
Ingrid, looking as cool as that infused water.

Julie Rhodes and her band are back at Katrina’s tonight. Killer blues and more new songs (sometimes mixed with some Etta James and Janis) are what you are in for tonight. Most of Julie Rhodes’ songs have stories to tell of life’s happenings and then some.
Julie is bringing Andrew Hammond to open up the evening in the first set. You do not want to miss this show. Andrew is like a modern day Guthrie and Dylan combined. His songs are so moving …I could listen to him for hours…his music and vocals make your heart melt. Please do, come out and hear for yourself.
Rockport’s going to be a happening place on Saturday, with the Rockport Elementary School Motif No.1 Day 5k & Fun Run kicking off at 9am, immediately followed by the Motif No. 1 Day Festival!
Tons of live music, great food, interactive art-making, a Seaside Circus, and a Rockport Art Colony pop-up art exhibit are all taking place right downtown from 11 to 7pm. Just outside the downtown area the YMCA’s Ben Beyea Youth & Teen Center celebrates its 10th anniversary with a party from 10:30 to 1pm with activities and food so good stuff is taking place throughout Rockport! Eastern Point Lit House is hosting an Open Mic for writers, and there will be plenty of opportunity to make art, whether as part of the Sidewalk Chalk art event or contributing to the community mural.

Our Mexican Wall-Building Cheese Fest Fundraiser with Celebrity Chef K.C. Diaz is scheduled for this Thursday at the Rhumb Line. To celebrate, you’re gonna have to listen and dance to the finest tootlin’ trumpeter and hemogoblin I know. And that’s Mr. Johnny “Bluehorn” Morricone.
I know, I know, he was just here a month ago, making up for a snow day last winter, but this cat is the coolest cat that is what am, and you gotta love him!. Helping out will be “Big Jack” Ward on gootar and vocals and the new sprout from California, Mr. Mike Clark, on drummps. No, not that Mike Clark, you Byrds fans. Showtime 8:30.

The first week of Katrina’s $1000 Singer Song Writer Challenge 2017 was one of the best nights in live music entertainment I have attended. Quite a few players came from the Boston area. Some were nervous but that did not interfere at all with the awesomeness they put out.. At some points it felt like we were in the presence of the likes of Joan Baez and Judy Collins, combined with the Jakals duo. You have to believe that many in the audience found themselves in awe of what they witnessed last night. No wonder the word goosebumps was mentioned so many times.
Here is a list of the players and judges and winners.
