This week let’s welcome back the Kielbasa King of Woosta: Mr. Mike O’Connell. We’re gonna have some fun, Bwana, channelling the 3 Stooges and playing our arses off to please you, the viewer. Mike is bringing in the cavalry in the form of Mr.George McCann, Chuck’s brother, and the mainstay in James Montgomery’s band, to whoop it up on guitar. Mr. Forrest “Frosty” Padgett will be sweating profusely trying to get here on time to keep time, on the drums, that is. And I’ll be there, too!

mike george and forrest
After the last time we played here, the walls needed repainting and the bathroom fixtures had to be replaced. We recommend you bring your Insurance cards, and a white flag, just in case. Mikey’s the real deal!

Grand Fatilla on Rocky Neck!

Grand Fatilla Concert
Saturday, October 11, 7:00 PM, Tickets $15
The Cultural Center at Rocky Neck, 6 Wonson Street, Gloucester.

Gloucester MA—The Cultural Center at Rocky Neck is pleased to present Grand Fatilla, on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 7pm. Their repertoire is an energetic and spirited journey through the music of Bulgaria, Italy, Argentina, North Africa & Hermeto Pascoal (Brazil), a unique style of “Global Stomp Music.”
The Boston-based ensemble released its debut CD, Global Shuffle, on September 2, 2014. Like an iPod on shuffle the group jumps from Argentine Tangos to Italian Tarantellas, from Turkish sacred Sufi songs to Irish reels, Moroccan trance to Bulgarian dance music, all performed with an emphasis on improvisational group interplay and playful spontaneity.
Tickets are $15 and available in advance at http://www.rockyneckartcolony.org or at the door.
For more information please visit: http://www.grandfatilla.com

ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Each member of the band brings a distinct flavor and area of expertise in different world music to the collective sound: Cassan and Pirozzolo both hail from Italy where they were immersed in the folk music of that area (and play with the Italian folk group Newpoli), and have also intensely explored Balkan, Tango, Brazilian and South American music. Glover came to Boston from his native Newfoundland where he absorbed the Celtic influences and fiddle music of that area, as well as studying the South Indian style of mandolinist U. Srinivas. Rivard, who is also a member of Indian-jazz group Natraj and plays with theBoston Pops Orchestra, has a passion for North African music, especially Moroccan trance music.

Andrew Clark Joins The Dave Sag’s Blues Party This Thursday @ The Rhumb Line 8:30-11:30 9.25.2014

Dave Sag's
Dave Sag’s

We’re calling in a hazmat crew this week to clean up the mess that’s gonna be created out of the arrival of that famous Tootin’ Torquemada of the Tenor: Mr. Andrew Clark. This guy really knows how to do it. He sings, he chortles, he squeaks out the most amazing renditions of vintage R&B with his own battery of weapons of mass deconstruction. You’ll see. This coming on the heels of the most amazing night last week when the Three Stooges of the Blues poked my eyes out . What a night!

andy clark
AC will be yanking in the amazing Mr. Mike DiBari to play gootar and perhaps sing a few, too. My personal favorite woodchopper, Mr. Forrest Padgett, will be flailing away on the skins. And I, Salmon DaveSag, will be helping out as much as I can. So, don’t be a cube, rube, go ape! Seeya there!

1968: Howard Marston, Jr. (a.k.a. “Chicklet”) seated with his parents in
resistance to the SSS and the U.S. involvement in Viet Nam.
When I first met Chick Marston, I was a young teenager.
My friends had told me I had to “see this guy play guitar”.
A gang of us rode in Jon Pope’s van to his house in Rockport.
Pope wanted to sell him a gorgeous metal-flake blue Fender
Stratocaster. Only thing was, Chick had never touched an
electric guitar in his entire life! I watched while he fumbled
all over the thing and wondered what all the hoopla was about.
But it wasn’t long after that I got to hear him play his nineteen
thirty-something Martin and simply sat in awe. And, soon after
that, he was making national news, courageously refusing
induction into the Army and its gross, immoral war – his beloved
and highly intelligent father and mother by his side all the way.
He was my hero. Our hero. I wonder how many local residents
know about this little chunk of American History. You want an
interesting read? Check the link below this paragraph. But
meanwhile, it is my honor to have “Chicklet” Marston as musical
guest at the Rhumb Line this Wednesday night. We have a total
blast every single time we play together. I see no reason for that
to change now… not after all these years. ~ Fly

These young women are worth going over the bridge for

GraceKelly_HotWhen I say Jazz, people often reply, “Oh, I don’t like jazz.”  But they like Henri Smith and Cape Ann Big Band and Henley Douglas, Jr. and Henry Allen and Karen Ristuben and Mark Earley and Miranda Russell and Linda Amero and The Docksiders — all jazz.  If you like any or all of these people OR you like blues, funk, or a new genre called “atmospheric pop”, you’ll LOVE 22-year-old Grace Kelly, who’s been performing since she was 8.  Another young rising star Yoko Miwa opens the show. You can get Tickets here.

On Thursday (Sept 25), you can see these two rising stars at Beverly’s fully restored, historic Larcom people are calling Grace Kelly a “jazz phenom.”  Check out her latest video and see what top stars say about her:

“I’ve heard the future of jazz and it is Grace Kelly.” – David Was, NPR’s Day to Day

“Grace Kelly writes great songs, sings beautifully, is a world class saxophonist, and is going to be a big big star” – Huey Lewis

“Grace Kelly plays with intelligence, wit and feeling. She has a great amount of natural ability and the ability to adapt. That is the hallmark of a first-class jazz musician.” – Wynton Marsalis

Dave Sag’s Blues Party @ The Rhumb Line to Host Ricky “King” Russell along with Ed Scheer and Mario Perrett…Put on your dancing shoes! 8:30pm-11:30pm

dave sag rl mo

We’re opening up the bomb bay this Thursday, to welcome back those spirited jokesters who may inflict moderate to severe Blooz damage to your soul. I’m talking about that fabulous glottal gurgler (and drummambulator) Mr. Edd Scheer. He’s draggin’ in his musical buddies, Mr. Ricky “King” Russell , on Qatar and vogelsang, and the modishly-styled cutie-pie of tenor sax,Mr. Mario Perrett. Everybody sings, sometimes together and in tune, and everybody gets a turn to embarrass himself and/or make bad jokes. Something to see. Czech it out.

And then, on Saturday, why not grab some extra chewing gum, lube up with Hai Karate® and join “Madhouse” for some fun and alcoholic madness at Captain Carlo’s. John Keegan© and his voracious ants are ready to crawl up your leg once again and make you dizzy on the dance floor. Come celebrate the end of summer(???)!
And don’t forget: for those of you in the prune juice and Cheez-Whiz® crowd, there’s always a great free show with the Good Old Salty Jazz Band this coming Monday at The Rose Baker Senior Center. From 1 to 3 these kats wail the greatest old toons in the world! It’s a national treasure! Shame on you for ignoring it!
